- Welcome to Buckley's Auto Care, www.buckleysautocare.com.
We have a case with this Mercedes Benz was giving us a bit of hard time when asked to give up the rattle that was persistently hiding from us.
After checking all of the usual suspects, exhaust, loose sheet metal, wheel areas, trunk, etc., it turns out that the rattle was hiding under the left rear brake rotor.
The parking shoes had worn the friction right off and the shoe hardware had broken allowing the entire rear shoe assembly to become loose enough to rattle under the disc rotor.
New shoes and hardware was needed so we updated the set on both sides, completed a sturdy road test and let the Mercedes Benz get back on the road safe and sound.

I really don’t know how to thank you for your help, we are lucky to have people like you around !
Very useful information i was trying to figure out myself what the rattle was in my rear disc brake. Thumbs up
thank you so much , this tip is helpful ! I am having exactly the same noise on my rear left wheel and I was wondering what could be the problem, I have a very good chance of having the same problem as you described here, thank you once again!
Thanks so much !
I found it very helpful and informative !
Great service message
THANK YOU!!! after replacing my entire rear four link and the noise still present, I found this... I'm sure this is it!!!
When he takes the brake off. And moves that clamp around, On my 2013 w212 Rear passenger I’m having that same rattle metal to metal sound. Also just realized when I’m braking it dose not make the rattle noise. Thanks so much for this advice! Can’t wait to make another appointment so I can show my mechanic this video!
Oh yeah, that is exactly the noise I am hearing. Thanks
I basicaly disconnect my parking brake, parking mode in transmision is strong enought. Nice video
God bless this man thanks alot
Thank you!!
For all EU drivers : Going from alloy to steel rims mostly screws it up in Europe with the winter tire change.
It gives the bolts an extra 5mm+ to go inside and it's just 1 big bang and it's over.
Most people don't even notice it since they hardly use the handbrake anyway due to automatic transmissions
Hope this helps some viewers🎉
Oooh, that sounds a lot like my W210 wagon's new noise. I wish I had watched this before I put the wheel back on.
EDIT: Mine turned out to be the little self-leveling suspension linkage. The plastic and rubber had worn out, and the link was hanging, occasionally tapping an axle while turning. The car eventually started sagging which clued me in. I fashioned a new joint with some O-rings and Gorilla glue and popped the linkage back on.
I have a problem with my c w205 sound come from rear left side I will have it checked thanks
Well I never, I didn't know they had old style drum breaks on the rear as well.
I got the same problem Gd looking
My rattle is more towards the front end. Probably not brakes because it happens in a stationary position and only at a certain rpm. I wiggled the exhaust in several locations and it seemed intact. Not sure what the deal is.
Tnx
My brake light keeps coming on while I drive more and more but has a horrible beeping noise inside the cab. Is that the same thing as your talking about? I have a 2002 ml500
2013 c300 sport the same thing, what should i replace please the shoes or the rotors
The rattling noise I hear from my E200 Mercedes Benz car engine is from where the silencer (exhaust pipe) connects to the engine. It happens only what I start the car in the morning; when the engine is cold. Please, is this a fault or what am I supposed to do to stop it?
Someone put too long bolts on it, maybe with a spare. The lug bolts hit the retainer pins and rips off the e-shoes. I see this with aftermarket wheels as people install a spare without using the correct lug bolts
What if the noise is coming from the front wheel? I have 2014 C300 4Matic. It is anoying and only happnes in pudholes. There also some squeaking from both front tires in budholes as well. Thoughts?
Is it possible for the parking breaks to cause your Mercedes to make that sound when it’s parked
Our 2018 GLE350 (@20k miles on odometer) is having a rattling sound from the rear driver's side wheel. I don't think this is it. Our sound is more of a marble in a can rattle rather than the clunky rattle shown here. At what mileage and age would the problems in this video occur on these cars? I assume our car is too young in age and mileage to have excessive shoe wear like that - but I won't be surprised if I am wrong
Same, marble in a can, have you found anything out?
Same problem on my E200 of 2015
this or sway bar bar links and tust me sway bar links are always the culpret
I have the same noise on my ml 350.
Where are you located? I'm having a noise issue with mines but I'm in Floroda.
Nicely done supporting the caliper via the brake line..shows how unprofessional this service is.
Those calipers are aluminum and don’t weight much. Not that big of a deal.
Was waiting for this comment. I feel the caliper should have been supported for sure those lines aren’t meant to support any weight.
i have the same issue with my e63amg 2010
Wow mine sounds like that I hope that’s what’s wrong with mine
My 'Cognac-Cousin ', mes amis, would cut a length of leather, from a belt, and epoxy it to the brake shoe. How does that grab you !?
I hear the same noises in my 2013 cls550. It's like a buckling noise
there's a small man in your trunk thats why
I am getting similar sound while breaking or slowing down the car after a long run with decent speed. The sound comes from the front right side wheel and it can be heard from outside of the car as well. Went to the service centre couple of times and the technician told me that he have tighten up some loose nuts & bolts, the sound will not come again. But it happens again and again. Interestingly this car is only few months old and driven for only 4000 KM when this noise comes up. Now it has been driven for 6500 KM and the sound is still there, the technicians are clueless. I am going to forward this video and another one fromczcams.com/video/Jz_2qwyFAFc/video.html to the service centre.
I'm getting a noise from my E220 that could very well be this. It's a metal on metal clinking sound as if something is loose underneath my car, only happens when I'm driving slow and I can only hear it with my windows open. It's also very intermittent, it's not as if it makes the noise once per revolution of a wheel. It seems to completely go when I'm above 10mph. I've taken it to 2 local garages who have said they can't find what the issue is. My car is 8 years old and has done just shy of 80k miles. I came across this video why googling the issue, and I have to admit I've never thought about the parking brake shoes. Looking online, apparently these should last the lifetime of the vehicle. My parking break does feel loose when I release it, and the foot pedal for it doesn't always spring back up on it's own, but it's been like that for about 3 years and mechanics spray some wd-40 on it and send me on my way when I raise it as an issue. Is there anyway to confirm this is the case without taking the wheel off?
lift your rear tire, and put your parking breakes, try to spin your wheel
Hi, my daughter has a 2015 Mercedes CLA 250 and she keeps hearing a noise on/off when she drives the car inside of the car. It sounds like it is coming more from the passengers side. It sounds similar to a typewriter on / off. We can’t find anything online . She does have a video of the noise . Do you have any idea what that could possibly be ? Thanks so much !
Hello, I have the answer as to what it is
@@evandalism aww thanks ! We actually figured it out , that was 7 months ago . Thanks so much though !

My e230 noise is in the front still trying to find out where it is
Did u find it? My 2007 ml350 is having the same issue.
Me too! What did you find out? I need help!
I think mine is in the front as well. Maybe it is behind the rotor on one of the front wheels.
The noise is on my front passenger side
So the parking brake wasn’t working. That should have been a dead give-away for the customer to let you know something wasn’t right back there.
Chrysler has the same problem!! Because they were owned by Benz at one point.
Solution: never, ever buy mercedes, Buy Honda, Toyota..
