THIS is the holy grail for rattle fix seakers. Daughter has an old C280 (2000 MY) and while it doesn't bother HER that much, I can't DRIVE the thing without going nuts. I am not 100% sure this is it, but I am 99.99% sure. I have been looking at the brake pads, shims and searching for "rattle" ""ANTI-Rattle" and so on for a while. As soon as I saw this I knew. Its that kind of rattle, which doesn't affect the brakes, functionally, but a annoying with a capital A.
Thank you sir for taking the time to pass on the good word. You have done a great service, and kept the populations low in mental health facilities all across the land.

Thanks John, it drove me nuts for 6 months speed bumps are the worst for making the pads rattle. Hopefully this will sort your issue. Cheers Lee

I am currently having the same Issue! I’m gonna try expanding that metal claw in the back and see if it does anything! Thanks for just realizing the problem

Hi Peeps, i have the same problem on my car, it's from the brake caliper carrier, look up part no.TRW BDA932 and youll see the 4 lugs the pads slot into, well they wear out creating a little groove which causes the pads to rattle.
The only fix i have found to last a while is to apply some heat shrink wrap over those lugs, it stops the rattle and lasts a while.
    Hope this helps someone.

All I want to find is a video that actually Shows the rattling noise so I can hear it for myself and compare my sound to those with this issue.. every one is just talking about it or saying this car has it and there gonna fix it..smh how is this helping other learn if we can't even hear the sound. I need a video with the sounds of a rattling heat shield and rattling brakes so I can compare my noise I'm having to there's and try to figure it out..it's important if your gonna make a video on a car issue shoe proof of the issue so us watcher's can learn and be helped somewhat by it .thanks

Hi Lisa, if it is a heat shield it will be a permanent rattle, the calliper only rattles when you go over a speed hump or a bump in the road.

I'm having the exact same problem! How did you fix it?

Helen Henze Hi Helen you have to spread the clasp on the brake pad that slots into the caliper holes it should be a tight fit. Once I done this the noise never returned. Hope this helps as it was a nightmare driving it with a constant rattle.

Rats. I don't think mine have a clasp; they look like this www.autohausaz.com/pn/0034209920OE
      The rattle is a nightmare!

Helen Henze These are the same as mine. on the round black clip you have a clasp on the back that you can't see in the picture. this is the part you will need to stretch to make a tighter fit. you only have one clasp on each side. Hope this helps.

So the round black clip has to fit tighter into the caliper hole? Or is it supposed to fit tighter to the back of pad? I noticed it fell out pretty easily when i had the caliper off. I'll be able to check again tomorrow to make it tighter. Thanks so much for your help!

Helen Henze make sure it is tight to the pad and in the hole it should feel solid in your hand before you fit it. I'm glad I could help I drove this car for 6 months with that rattle it sent me mad haha.
