Dwarf Mongoose Video - Feeding & Drinking At Olifants Rest Camp - Smallest Carnivore
The Common Dwarf Mongoose (Helogale parvula) is the Kruger National Park's and Africa's smallest carnivore. They are very cute and feisty little predators, and can often be found in large "mobs", "packs" or "gangs". They are very social animals, and can be found in groups of up to 30 or more individuals. This action was at Olifants Rest Camp, during the heat of the day. These Common Dwarf Mongoose were feeding and drinking, and just being very energetic, considering it was around 35 degrees that afternoon. They can be found in most Rest Camps, and are an absolute pleasure to have around.
The Common Dwarf Mongoose have a variety of diet options, they eat mostly insects, including beetles and grasshoppers, though they may also eat spiders, scorpions, small vertebrates, eggs and fruit. They spend most of their days looking for food amongst the brush, leaves, wooded areas and rocks. The Common Dwarf Mongoose use large termite mounds as their homes, and one should always drive very slowly past termite mounds in case one of these Mongoose groups are around. They are so entertaining, and often very inquisitive and tolerant of vehicles, and when you are on foot.
This video of the Common Dwarf Mongoose mob, was taken at Olifants Rest Camp, in the Kruger National Park. They are resident in the camp, and move fro chalet to chalet in search of food. In the background of this video we have added some Kruger National Park bird calls to make this cute Dwarf Mongoose video more enjoyable.

After the Bush babies, they're the 2nd cutest and felt so much joy watching them run around our garden at our chalet.
