      @@QSReigns I was telling my wife, who is black, "There's a lady on CZcams who is explaining how to fix our Saab." We laughed.

    Thanks for the video.
    My ignition is frozen in the LOCK position & key won't turn. How did you remove the lock cylinder? It seems a bit tricky...

  • @citylockapolytechnikeyllcc7936

    OK, Lady... wow, impressive... but for the love of God, NO GRAPHITE !!!!!!
    What do you do for a living, anyway?
    You did a great job relating technical explanation without visual aids and while driving... that is impressive! You are a rock star...
    Please come to Boulder Colorado and apply for an apprenticeship with my City Lock. Allow me to add a few things:
    1. NO GRAPHITE. Graphite would work well, in total absence of moisture, grease and other contaminants... something that is an issue since auto locks are factory lubricated with either a petroleum jelly or lithium grease. Adding graphite or graphited oil will form cake batter when it mixes into the factory lube.
    2. When your key stops working, it is because of either wear on the key blade or wafer wear. Sometimes you have both. The keys can be cut by code, and wafers replaced.
    3. A Locksmith can make a replacement key blade and shell to code, so as you describe, you are just moving the electronics from the old key to the new, no Tech-II needed, if the vehicle was responding to the old key, once it turned.
    Rock*

      That's interesting because I thought graphite was a Godsend but you're saying not to use it with locksmith credibility. Nonetheless, I used it on the new one and it does stick sometimes. Should I consider attributing part of that to the graphite?

    • @QSReigns
      @QSReigns  Před 6 lety

      russell beal, no tech 2 was needed. Just swap out the guts and you’re good to go.

      @QSReigns  Před 6 lety

      Hang on, what’s your Saab’s make and model? Also, did you buy the exact cylinder part for your Saab?

    • @ayno1363
      @ayno1363 Před 6 lety

      I have a 2000 95 Aero and the cylinder fits in the without any problem. When i go to start the car the key turns and turns on the power but when comes to starting it just show on the display that the key is not the right key

    • @QSReigns
      @QSReigns  Před 6 lety

      russell beal, the important thing is that you got the right part, and I believe each Ignition Lock cylinder is coded. Your part number is 8960221, and is applicable for 99-03 9-5 Aeros only.
      I’m not sure if this model comes with keys. Where did you purchase? Also, did you buy part #8960221?

    How hard is it to get to the actual ignition switch?

    • @QSReigns
      @QSReigns  Před 4 lety

      You can get it from eBay but you’ll need to go on eeuroparts.com to get the correct part number. You might even be able to buy it on there for a decent price

    Where did you end up getting your new ignition cylinder from? Part of my key is broken inside the ignition and we are unable to turn it to get the cylinder out.

    • @QSReigns
      @QSReigns  Před 7 lety

      Alaska2075, first you'all need to get that broken piece out, do you still have the other part of the key?
      Here's the link for the part: wait, do you have the same exact vehicle?

      I hope you got the piece out of the ignition. My guess is you have an older Saab that has the traditional 2 sided key, that fits the lock that is a dual purpose as a cup holder for sticky beverages ( small aircraft and beverages do not mix, so no cup holders in a Saab ). Locksmiths have been pulling those little key stubs out for decades. IT is tedious, but doable. You also can try to insert remaining half of key, and hope the tip of key is in lock correctly, and if you are lucky, you will get the two halves to meet, allowing turnign to accessory, pull the cylinder out and take it to a good locksmith.
