In 1969 the SEC led all conferences with 5 teams ranked in the final AP poll. No other conference had more than 3 teams ranked. Ole Miss was #8, LSU finished ranked #10, Florida was #14, Tennessee was #15, and Auburn finished at #20. The conference had OOC wins over such teams as Florida St. Miami, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Arkansas and Houston.

It was the year of Archie Who and one of Mississippi’s most exciting seasons in their long football history. Four victories over top 10 ranked teams, three of which were undefeated at the time (GA, LSU and Tenn). How they lost to Kentucky is beyond me.
It was the year that the Cotton Bowl snubbed a one loss LSU team so that they could invite a team that had not played a bowl game in decades, the Norte Dame Fighting Irish.
