Tom Gatewood. Now there’s name I’d forgotten about.

There was a time when Purdue was a force to be reckoned with.

Break a leg, Joe Theismann! I know you'll do well in the NFL!

Joe Theismann, Walt Patulski, and Mike McCoy went on to solid careers in the NFL with the Redskins, Bills, and Packers, respectively.

Purdue’s QB Mike Phipps and USC’s RB Clarence Davis went on to solid NFL careers, Phipps with the Cleveland Browns and Chicago Bears, and Davis with the Oakland Raiders.

      Phipps was a disappointment

@@howardcosell2022 Overall, I agree. He had some good games, but a lot of bad ones. I think his best year was with Chicago.

@@denisceballos9745 The only other high first round pick QB who lost his job to another late round selection of significance in the draft was Drew Bledsoe

@@howardcosell2022 ; Yeah, there weren’t many QBs in that 1970 draft (after Terry Bradshaw got picked at #1). The Browns were desperate for a new QB after Nelsen’s knee issues. So Phipps was the only option for Art Modell. Unfortunately, as you said, he was a disappointment, with almost twice as many INTs as TDs career.

Where are the 1969 LSU highlights? The Irish eeked out a 3-0 win on a short field goal in the game's last three minutes.
The Tigers' offense was completely stymed all game long. The Fighting Irish were also held to less than 300 yards total offense. Theisman was sacked seven times on the day. The next year the Irish found themselves to be Tiger Bait in LSU's storied Tiger Stadium. Final score: The Fighting Tigers 28 The Fightin' Irish 8! Look it up on CZcams!!!
