Who is the face of the NBA after LeBron James retires? That question is more important now than in 30 years. NBA ratings are down and the league is suspended. As popularity shrinks, someone has to step into the spotlight as the heir to King James' throne as face of the Association. Candidates already in the league include Giannis Antetokounmpo, Luka Doncic and of course Zion Williamson but there could be a player we've never seen play pro ball yet like Bronny James or someone else. In this video we explore who will be the next in line to represent the NBA on a global scale.

The NBA is going more international year by year; why can't its face be international? And Luka has no charisma? He is likable and relatable to 700 million Europeans and 500 million spanish-speaking people. Giannis attracts Europeans and Africans by the millions as well. Luka and Giannis may very well become the Magic-Bird duo of the 2020's.

I love luka, but people ONLY SEE HIS HIGHLIGHTS... dude literally complains and yells at the ref DURING the play when he misses a layup up. He constantly wants a foul called. I’ve seen him have a legit 5 minute convo with the ref while his team is playing transitional defense. Like.. get back on fucking defense, you didn’t get the call, move on.
Also, going 2-17 hurts the team bad. But those 2 three pointers he made go on espn. I hate it.

I don’t know I think they might especially if Trae keeps developing. They just got a good defensive piece in Clint cappella. I think John Collins could be good if used right but definitely it max contract worthy but maybe I’m wrong. Also they could get a high pick in this draft and hunter and who ever they draft just has to develop more. They don’t need to be superstars or anything but if they r rlly good on defense they can help cover up traes lack of defense kinda like what the Mavs do with Lukas defense. Who knows only time will tell

Just because the Spurs were having dominance doesn't mean Tim was the face, Kobe embodied it, Duncan never wanted the spotlight. Being a face is more then just winning championships there's a difference, no one was calling him the best back then anyways. The league is in good hands, there are so many great and talented young players today like Luka, Zion, Giannis, Trae Young, Ja Morant, Tatum, Ingram, Simmons, Siakam, Jokic... etc. Not to mention there are also many great players who are currently at their prime but will still be very good in few years like Kawhi, KD, Curry, Davis, Harden and even Lebron
Guys I think it could be Jayson Tatum. He checks all the boxes. He’s American, plays in a big market team/storied franchise. He’s a top player, is likeable enough, well spoken. Seems to have a good clean image (has that family man positive role model vibe to him). Think about it. In his post game interviews they always show his son.
It’s like when Curry was MVP, in the playoffs he would bring his sexy little daughter on stage. The NBA wants another Curry type as the face (positive family man type- not a street slang speaking thug like Ja or Ant).

My educated guess: (1) So far NBA has been investing heavily on the African-American segment. It's very unlikely that we will see a change in this practice; (2) the player also must be powerful, tall and strong; it would take a miraculous player to change this, so Trae Young and alikes are probably out; (3) the candidate needs to be very likable, photogenic, full of charisma, and have a minimally "America-wide normal" lifestyle; (4) Space for foreign players open only if NBA intends to expand to global reach.
WHATEVER HAPPENS: I hope that whoever gets the job NBA assumes a much lesser LeBronesque approach to the topic. We lived a decade under oppressive imposition of LeBron's image in a most shameless way. It has been very tiresome. I wish a better fate to his replacement.

Lamelo ball. African American, mixed. Tall and his coach JJ said he’ll be 220 all muscle by the time of the draft. Likable, photogenic been in the spotlight for some time. Not really full of charisma during interviews but he is on the show and in other times. And is known in Europe because he’s played there many times.

Exactly, Larry Bird was more popular than Magic Johnson in mid 1980s. He didn't have the marketability upside that Magic had but he was more popular because he was white(The Great White Hope), the best player in the NBA, and had the gratuitous hardware to back it up (3 Straight MVPs).

I think AI3 was the face of the NBA for a while in early 2000s although he had no ring.
Iverson was NEVER the face of the NBA, the NBA made sure of that. Late 1990s/Early 2000s was Shaq then Shaq/Kobe then just Kobe then just Lebron. Iverson was extremely influential and popular with the youth culture but used as an example of how NOT to act as you ascend in the league by NBA executives.

Had steph not been injured all year and played an MVP type season again like most people predicted if he was healthy then he would be the lock for takeover of the league. The past 5 years the torch had already kinda passed to curry but following the loss last finals and this season out while the team was trash hurt his standing especially since LeBron was having such a good year while he was out....

It's more or likely Luka or Zion. They have had an incredible season. Zion posting up elite near to all star numbers and Luka nearly averaging a triple dub and on the MVP voting he is 3rd or 4th. Luka can attract fellow Europeans to the nba even though they already have a Euro League and he is fun to watch, he is a elite passer and is pretty skilled on handling and dribbling the ball, let's not forget about his step back 3. Also he is not one of the most athletic players but he is more than capable to handle his own thanks to his skillfulness and craftiness. Zion is the college sensation that everyone knows, it's fun to see he dunk on full grown men like it was nothing. He was so hyped to enter the league maybe rivaling Lebron and he sure did live up to all that height when he returned from injury. Zion was posting up near to elite numbers and he could have been an all stars this year if it wasn't for his injury, the problem he is having now is that sue against him and his family so that might cost him a little.
