If what I'm hearing is correct, he has the same VA as Full Frontal (aka, the second coming of Char Aznable) as well as Char in the Origin. Whether this was done intentionally or not is to be debated.

Notice how as he's about to die he changes his stance to appear as large and intimidating as possible. But the arms he's holding up occasionally spasm and it gives the impression that he can't hold them up.

The fact they got Shūichi Ikeda, the voice of Char Aznable, to voice this character in Japanese is unbelievable in itself; but going further to get his english VA for the English track is going the extra mile.
At this point, pretty hard to imagine they didn't design this guy and not have Char in mind, and so they HAD to bring in Shuuichi Ikeda and then Keith Silverstein to make it "official".
He's got the mask, gilded ride, pettiness, and BS self-righteous rhetoric (though the part where he actually believes himself to be awesome is more Full Frontal than Char, coz the latter never actually believed the crap he himself spouted, especially in CCA)
He can be described as Char Aznable meets Steven Armstrong meets Diavolo.

@@metalblade8986 he doesn't actually say that it's a metal gear reference to where the boss gets extremely buff and says "Nanomachines son!" he even is a Senator running for President and wants to "make the country great again" but goes about it in a really bad way similar to Shido running for Prime Minister and going about it in a really bad way and his justification being it's for the good of the country, they also both become extremely buff and take a long time to kill in their fights
Like I posted in another video, it's truly disturbing how similar Shido is to Senator Armstrong from Metal Gear Rising:
- Both of them are ultra nationalistic politicians that seek to become the highest authority figure in their respective countries (Prime Minister of Japan in Shido's case, President of the United States in Armstrong's case)
- Both of them go into rants on how the world should purge the weak and let the strong thrive.
- Both of them fight the protagonist first aboard a vehicle (Shido's transformable golden lion, Armstrong's Metal Gear EXCELSUS).
- Both of them roid the hell up for the final round, causing to become impossibly muscled with distorted, discolored skin (bright red in Shido's case and reddish dark in Armstrong's case).
Alfonso Alvarado I feel the creators of Persona 5 and Metal Gear Rising probably took cues from populists leaders and warrior-kings that have appeared throughout history. People always say they want a "strong leader", I think Shido and Armstrong were meant to be deconstructions of what "strong leaders" look like. Their final forms perfectly illustrate how in the end they're willing to use brute force to change the world and remove anyone who doesn't agree with them like a tyrant, whatever words or speeches they give is just a mask they use to ascend to power. Oh, and both have pretty kickass music playing during their boss fights.
That would explain why Collective Conscienceness really fits Shido.
Wolfboss7 Good point. Both Armstrong and Shido seem to be over the top parodies of what people think is a determined, fearless leader should look and act like. Someone that takes matters on their own hands, do not yield under any circumstances and will fulfill their promises by any costs any if that involve sacrifices then so be it.
The fact that in reality they're power-hungry, unhinged lunatics that will throw the entire world to the lions (perhaps literally in Shido's case) for the sake of forcing everybody to follow their ideals really hammers the point.

Ryuji did pretty good in this boss fight. Hell everyone did good, except Fox who kept getting pushovered. xD
And think of the impact his death would have been, he would have been the first major persona user death. There was a minor persona user death in 3, no user death in 4, and the only other user death in this game was Akechi, and his death is considered mere speculation and never officially proven. Ryuji's fake death felt like it could have been infinitely better if he had died.

The Daruma doll stage he is on is a nice touch. A Daruma doll when bought has its eyes white. One eye is filled in when you decide on a wish. You fill in the other eye when the wish is furfilled, like this guys stage when it rises up.

The party has, altogether, a Persona that rides a cloud/boat, a motorcycle Persona, a UFO, or any matter of personas the MC can wield, and they were panicking about being unable to SWIM? And don't go saying "Personas are incorporeal", because in Kaneshiro's Palace, Makoto uses Johanna as a bike to escape the Palace while they're being chased.

I highly doubt a monkey on a nimbus cloud or a motorcycle can carry everyone... let alone swim... makoto's motorcycle... arsene could probably carry bout 1 or 2 ppl at most, if joker still has it... the rest are sitting ducks since their personas can't fly or swim... so the idea seemed impractical to even consider.

Best fight in the game...they fit the music in perfectly. How it goes from instrumental to vocals....my god. Haven't been that pumped for a fight in an RPG in so long.

Definitely one of the top 10 moments in a video game for me. Not only has the game been building up to this fight, but Rivers in the Desert makes it so much more epic and meaningful. And then it kicks in with the lyrics, which only make you want to throw everything you’ve got. Such an adrenaline rush!

Futaba’s Palace alone makes Shido breaking down into a sobbing wreck after clearing his palace extremely satisfying.
This fight never gets old for me. One of the most satisfying “final” bosses I’ve ever faced in a video game

The ryuji scene did make me shed a tear when I first played it, I’ll admit. Then when he came out of nowhere with “yo what’s up” I bursted out with laughter
Hearing Joker say "You're mine" right before delivering the coup de grâce to Shido was one of the most ice cold voice lines I've ever heard in a video game
I remember that this fight the first time was so intense for me my team mates kept dying and I kept trying to kill him while I healed I saved all my sp for heals and he kept nearly one shotting me and I managed to kill him by sheer willpower

His final form nearly killed me. I got to a point where I burned so much SP that I decided to give up. He killed off everyone except y main. On my main, I had a repel physical ability. When I saw that I could just guard through his attacks, he would eventually kill himself.
I was one attack away and this guy wiped everyone else except my main with 50 hp and i was like fuck it and hit him with God's Hand to finish him off.
I can't believe i did it with only 2 sp heals on joker on Hard difficulty in 2 attempts honestly
I wouldn't have said this if both his English VA and Japanese Seiyuu weren't Char Aznable, but Shido's shadow costume really takes alot of queues from that to be a coincidence. I'm actually starting to wonder if they deliberately did that.

Shido kicked my arse about 8 times before I beat him. "Oh boy, I'm glad I've beaten the final boss". Oh boy was I wrong

Damn, I was so close to dying on his last faze. I was out of HP & SP having used them on the previous two fazes of his boss fight. If it wasn't for Ryuji's final blow on Shido, I'd of had to do his boss fight again.
In case any of you are curious: Shido's English voice is Keith Silverstein.
When the lyrics kick in for the second part of the fight I got goosebumps. One of the best uses of music in any videogame ever.
Shido's 2nd/3rd form doesn't null or reflect Physical, does it? Cause if it doesn't, my yelling at the player to have Ryuji use Megaton Raid is justified.
The best villain in the game IMO. His motives were understandably tho incredibly ruthless.

Where we live, we have a Shido as our new President. Said person is the son of an even more infamous Shido figure, one who has caused so much grief for our parents and elfers.
Yet our current "leader" seems strong precisely because he has the strong support of his constituents, held together by his rhetoric called "Unity".
Shido basically embodies leaders exploiting populist rhetoric (there were even comparisons to Shinzo Abe early on in the game's release), so it's no surprise that person you're talking about whose name rhymes with eminem, also resembles him
