A small detail I love is that Makoto really has had enough of everyone’s shit and immediately agrees to the contract instead of listen to everything else first
An extra bit I like on top of that is once they escape the metaverse and Makoto has time gather herself, she immediately accepts being a Phantom Thief herself now. No doubts or anything, she knew *exactly* what she really wanted now that she's finally done playing nice.
Anything Johanna could have said I feel that Makoto already knows but chose not to think about it/accept it because of her circumstances. It kinda builds up until she blows past her breaking point and just lets it out. Notice how she doesn't interrupt Johanna, but Johanna merely asks the question? Makoto already understands, she just needed to accept it.

The thing i loved most about Makoto's awakening was how quickly she goes from 0 to 100. I believe the first time i saw it i just straight yelled "holy shit the girls a hardass". It's seriously like her personality does a 180 and i love it

Yeah. I mean, I do it too, but in this scenario, there were many mistakes made that could have this far more efficient. Pressing the L1 button will also automatically search for a weakness and Morgana will quickly tell you if there are none. He missed opportunities on just simply using Joker's melee weapon to increase efficiency for a clean sweep. Using miragi with Ann was kind of a backfire, as agi could is more directly susceptible to causing burn. I could be wrong. Idk. I feel like I've put far too many hours into this game to be proud of. Joker should typically have a good chance to critically hit with a melee strike. I always have my characters completely ridiculously geared to cause increased dmg with melee and adding status effects. He played well and I'm not being a hardass. It took me an entire playthrough to know L1 auto displays weaknesses. People sleep on those melee attacks when they can give you a whole chance of hitting more criticals depending on the equipment and accessories

That scene is so much powerfull in english than it is in japanese thanks to her

You know... When Makoto screams like that.. She sounds like she's crying.
Like, the kind of screaming you'd hear from a girl about to throw a tantrum, crying.
Given that she held in all of that emotion in,
Sae giving her pressure.
The principal giving her pressure.
Her peers giving her pressure.
She even gave herself pressure to meet those expectations, but she's just a highschool girl.
and it sucked. But despite it all she kept a high head-
but this awakening... I feel like it was the straw that broke the camel's back. With kamoshida and Madarame, With Ryuji, Ann, Yosuke respectively these guys are a primary target of their rage.
Kaneshiro is just a mafia guy- he hasn't tormented her for a long time or whatever, but he's adding more things for her to deal with in her mind.
If she's unable to deal with the problems, she not only disappoints everyone around her, but herself as well- that's the same as her world crumbling.
I feel at this moment, she let all of her frustrations out.
Considering that, I think it makes sense for her to sound like she's 'crying' after taking off her mask...
Confirming this as a person who was in shock to see the pressure of being the “perfect” good girl student... Seeing a character portray the emotion and frustration so well is just... amazing. I’ve seriously never seen the model student go off like this when I’m holding the same “persona” over my true stress and frustration.
that scene has great vocal performance, but it is also aided by some small animation details. if you look at her arms when she repeats Kaneshiro's "advice", you can see them shake with anger, you can already see she's about to explode.
performance-wise, that awakening is my favorite by a long shot (joker's the best looking, but just isn't on par when it comes to expressing the emotions of the character) and has immediately put Makoto at the top of my confidents and romantic interest. And her story presence, as well as her confident scenes, just kept improving her for me (unlike Ann who kind of gets "ruined" by dumbing her down in her confident scenes and by reversing her progress in Yosuke's story).
It was perhaps because of her stacking up and holding all the shit dumped on her for so long only to explode once reaching her limit, but I ended up identifying and sympathizing with her the most. For a very long time, I was just like her, just repressing all the anger, sadness, and other negative emotions until I just couldn't and went on a raging tantrum on whoever ended up blowing the gasket, often on someone not really deserving of the outburst, or at the very least not at the extreme that I unleashed it. (never fought, hurt, or hit another... but it did result in a yelling match, hurtful comments, and ghosting that could persist for a long time... some still persist to this day in fact.)
I have since learned to let loose on lesser emotions on the spot, and release the more aggressive ones whenever I'm alone.

I feel for makoto cause I’m at that place and when I was a kid. Breaking off that mask may be unsettling but so necessary. You get to be honest with yourself for once and just be you. I felt that “ don’t get all cocky cause I normally behave myself, I’m done playing nice”
It’s better to let out your issues on the spot if not you will flip your lid later or start holding grudges against yourself or others. I feel you see that in makoto how she no longer is as passive and speaks her mind.

I like Makoto but Ann’s awakening is a lot cooler in my opinion, she legit kicks a sword out of a shadows hands and catches in the air while using it to cut a cognitive version of her in half after breaking the restraints that held her down both figuratively and literally, I just find it a hell of a lot cooler than just stomping the floor and getting a bike
