Welcome! After moving to Scotland two months ago from the U.S. and finally setting up house just south of Edinburgh, we decided that a holiday was in order. A family favorite is Dunkeld, so that’s where we set our sights. We had an incredible time exploring this beautiful village and the surrounding areas including Blairgowrie and Pitlochry. From the River Tay to the Beatrix Potter Gardens and Museum to the Hermitage, we did our best to leave no stone unturned. Unfortunately, even after 6 full days in Perthshire, we still couldn’t visit all of the locations we had on our radar, but we’ll just have to make another trip sooner rather than later. The Abernethy Round Tower is one we don’t want to miss! We hope this video showcases some of the breathtaking views and natural beauty in the area. Also - Not to be missed is our redo of the MARMITE TASTE TEST. Enjoy! And, if you’re interested in a further tour of the Forebrae Cottage, where we stayed, check out the following links:

Toast some crumpets, put plenty of butter on them and about the same amount of marmite as you had on that toast and try that, I love it like that. Marmite is a by product of British beer making, so remember every time you eat Marmite you are helping with British beer production!

The Uk, scotland including, has a ton of crime and other types just as America. What you see here is not standard for a lot of the uk, is the occasionally occurring romanticized ideal of it. Lots of crowded crime ridden cities and grim dilapidated towns as well. Its a faulty country just like America. Has its great areas and bad ones like any other. Not that there is not plenty of areas like you see here, All I am saying is do not necessarily go and expect this type of environment to be the entirety of the four countries the uk consists of.

The park in Pitlochry where that you visited is known as the recreation ground (or known locally as 'the rec').
Highland Games take place on the 2nd Saturday in September - worth a visit, all the pipe bands march down the high street
The amusements (the place with the bumper cars), closed around 2007/2008 and was redeveloped into the business centre that sits on site now.
(Grew up in Pitlochry - now living on the outskirts of Edinburgh)

That area is so beautiful. I hope you saw the Dunkeld Cathedral, so much history. I live Pitlochry too. We actually stayed in Kenmore at the start of Lock Tay, not the river Tay but Lock Tay. I will say there is not much for children there. We did visit the Cronnogs on Lock Tay, so fascinating. I believe we walked there from Kenmore. Anyway this was so nice of you to share, brought back so many memories. Love the cottage. How did you find it!

Beautiful Holiday, i find it crazy that its the middle of the scottish summer and you have a fire going..... not sure i'd want to be there in the middle of winter, hahaha. Glad you tried the marmite again, that's the way to eat it. If you ever have an upset tummy and want something light to put in it.... try the marmite toast or a tsp or two of marmite (more if you want it stronger) in a mug with hot water, makes a beef broth that really is surprisingly good when you don't feel so good.

Brilliant to see you's had a wonderful time up there. Perth is a wonderful place, they even have the stone of destiny now on display up there which was put on display more recently when it was returned to Scotland. I've long been planning to get back up there to photograph the Drummond Castle and Gardens.
Great to see they have many of those facilities even for the wee yins to play, and despite the rain you's managed to get about and enjoy yourselves.

Marmite makes a very nice meaty 'umami' gravy for stews, shepherds pies and even bolognese sauce. You just need a teaspoonful along with a stock cube. I use it in vegetarian cooking too. When I ran out of soy sauce for a stir fry once, I found a teaspoon of Marmite mixed with a few tablespoons of hot water works just as well. It's also nice on cheese on toast - thinly spread on the cheese before putting it under the grill. You can get also the similar Australian version 'Vegemite' here.
