the stone looks like malachite and the meaning is "boosts awareness of patterns and behaviors that not benefit you, and directs you to make changes that will support personal growth and transformation" and it’s for protection from negative energies. It’s used to ward off danger.

its interesting that the ghost children are always present around a mirror just like how the ghosts are always present by a reflective surface in the shining, and mirrors showing a false refelction is a common motif, which is shown by the mirror showing the snow globe. in fact, even one of the chairs in the other world is a shining reference, and the movie is also about a haunted house basically, i notice some similarities between those movies.

Maybe the 3 silhouettes in the beldam's lair are a young Spink, Forcible and Bobinski

Regarding the flies, saying it's been at least 22 days is a bit far-fetched to me. As someone who lived in an old house, flies found their way in really easily (and we saw cracked windows when Coraline toured the house earlier). The food on the table would stink (and thus, attrack flies) within 3 days maybe, and the flies would flock to it, no question. That would explain why the cellphone in the car still had power if Coraline's parents had been missing for 3 days. It's more plausible for me.
I also don't think there were other ghost children in the Other House at the time of the movie (holding cell #5), or there would have been more "wonders" for Coraline. There might have been other children that the Beldam "ate" completely, but only three ghosts remain now.

Why would the mom leave the keys to her car in the car ignition without removing them? Is that what I just saw? Removing the keys to the car is the first thing most people do when they park? If she is still in the other world, it feels like all of these things were 'set up' to showcase to Coraline that her parents were missing by someone who might not understand how those things work. The Beldam would have had the doll to spy on how things work, but not understand the way people use those things because she obviously wouldn't have been alive when the technology was around. She would have been able to see that the keys go in the car, via the doll, but not understand that the first thing a person does when they park is usually remove the keys after parking your car. It's something we don't even think about. And the cellphone is usually always with the person who owns it. And, honestly, I don't see the mom just leaving the bag of groceries on the table. I would see her coming home, calling for her daughter While putting the groceries away like most people. You don't just come home, leave a grocery bag of meat on the table and panic. I always thought that was weird. It all just feels very planted. And if you notice, it's all mom oriented. There's not much evidence of dad going missing to me. It's all mom focused. Just some thoughts.

Idk if I'm killing the fun here (ik that any laika details are open to theorizing on) but I feel like a lot of the critiques about realism regarding the uncharged phone, and the theatrics with Spink and Forcible (amongst other odd things) are just sort of things that happen in movies? Like, I wouldn't expect perfect realism from any film, to be honest; it has the same energy as Miguel picking up the old guitar in Coco and having it be perfectly in tune after decades; like obviously not realistic, but I feel like it's hard to treat everything logically when u need things to _happen_ somehow

Spink and Forcible are part of the game. They are dead. They "helped " other children before. The candy bowls are trophies.

Very fun video! I personally wasn’t surprised that the ladies didn’t try to call a cab (taxi). I can think of several real life scenario reasons for this. 1. Lack of money. Your cab fair pricing was vastly different than my own at that time period. Where I lived two miles would cost $25 before a tip. And if you didn’t tip, don’t expect that driver to ever agree to pick you up again. I tipped, but I knew people who did not and told me about it. 2. Did the ladies have a working phone to call a cab? I didn’t think so. But I could be mistaken. 3. Would a cab come to the pink palace? There are reasons a cab company will refuse to come to certain locations. If it is rural, the roads can flood/mud ruts/be a hazard and they just won’t bother. If they have had customers who didn’t pay last time, they won’t come. If it is “shady” involving drug deals/prostitution/and yes…hauntings they can and do refuse to come. If a cab driver is freaked out, they can pass on the call.
I believe the stone is real malachite and not taffy. I never questioned Mel’s phone still having a charge. But I didn’t realize how long they had to be missing due to the rotten groceries. Good job with the details FanGirl!

I think that the reason why Coraline's mum doesn't lock the doors is that there is no other neighbours than the pink palaces other residents. And maybe she trusts them enough to not lock the doors. Or the doors are kinda automatically locked. In a way that you don't have to use a key to lock them. (Sorry for the bad english and for not explaining very well)

So I watched coraline again after rewatching all these breakdown series. I wanted to point out that the packages of seeds that coraline put away by the kitchen window will disappear next time we see the kitchen.
Since the seeds were pumpkin and bleeding hearts that we actually see later on in the other world , just can't help but suspect that the mice took those seeds for the beldam to use.

What's up with that vice message though when Coraline picks up the phone. Her dad that he is in his garden right now. Which is werid because that is in out of character thing for the real Charlie to say They live in an apartment we don't see him in the garden. The only one that is established to garden is the Other Father.

I've always been concerned about how nonchalant people are about Coraline being alone at 11 for more than two days. I've put it down to fiction, and to keep the story concise. However, it does make me think about the limbo theory and that makes the story more disturbing!

As a child of neglect who started being left home alone continuously at the age of 4 , I can say for certain that there are a lot of adults who simply don’t care to involve themselves. Now, I never called the cops. But yeah, neighbors as flighty as those two would definitely ignore Coraline.

Fun fact, maybe, I'm living in China studying the language and I was thinking since I read the book in English (I'm Spanish speaker) I could try to search for things about Coraline in Chinese, maybe find the book and movie here in China. And I thought 'how's Coraline' s name in Chinese? ' usually every name it's just very similar but this time the title of the book is 鬼妈妈,鬼 is disembodied spirit, ghost, devil, you can search and maybe has this kinds of translations, it's for something like it, and 妈妈 is mom. So I found it weird (and such a spoiler) that they didn't make the title about Coraline but about her mother. Like I saw the title and I already knew it's was about to be something bad about her mother. Well it's just a fun fact 😂😂 I haven't bought the book yet but I hope someday my Chinese is as good to read it.

I'm kinda sad this series is almost over...but at the same time when the last video gets posted I'm going to watch all over again from the beginning haha! After first coming across your video "What if Coraline said Yes" a few years ago, I never watched the movie the same again because your theory made sooo much sense. I even remember you said your daughter pointed it out to you! I sense a future fangirl lol. It'd be cool to see you do something similar to this with the book, to go chapter by chapter and dissect it. I'm sure you're over Coraline lol and even if it was behind a pay wall I'd love to see what you think of the idea. Hope you have a great weekend!
PS your grandma only bringing up I Love Lucy to mention the fact that she's dead is hilarious! Mainly because my kids and I watch I love Lucy almost every week lol

Now that I think about it yb’s grandma set up Coraline she could be in cahoots with the belldam and made a deal to give her another child instead of her grandchild because there was no one else living in those apartments with children since his grandma‘s sister and that could also explain why YB is the one to give her the doll in the first place also the belldam would have needed to know how Coraline looked the mice could be telling her what the new children look like or the cat but in this case it could also be YB‘s grandmother because when YB and the cat first see Coraline she’s outside in her raincoat and rain boots which is exactly what the doll looks like he is always looking nervous or upset around her after giving her the doll like he knows what’s going to happen to her eventually

Wait, wait, so if the stone is good for bad OR lost things... can it be used for both? Like what if each of the ladies remembers half? This would mean that the ghost eyes are lost, which... obviously, AND bad! So tjey are basically a distraction for Coraline, or like a scare tactics, like you said many times. So ghost eye is not a thing that will set the ghost kid free, making it a good thing, but rather making it a bad thing for Coraline

No I believe the seeing stone was made out of the candy. Since I believe the candy would represent Coraline. I also can see sot of a Matrix thing with the ladies and how you put it. That or some sort of Mystics and like with how we have two sides to our brains maybe the brain that functions normally isn't working but they still have something to them to still in a way understand how to help Coraline. The two ladies came up with the right answer. It's for seeing and finding. I also am 50/50 when deciding if she got away or not. For multiple reasons it's hard. Like I really feel she was in the real world when she received the "seeing stone" But by the end of the movie is indeed back in the "Other World" If you look on IMBD and look up Trivia for this movie the creator even states she is in the "Other World" Or was it that the well was absolutely a web to the "Other World" And the fact that a movie so complexed that is was all wrapped up so quickly and seemingly sloppy.
