- I don't come across these often! A half ton Ford truck with a tool body. Sitting since 1999 in a scrap pile, this is going to get interesting. Come along as I try to get this old work truck back running again!

That old Ford is just a peach in my opinion. She would be worth putting a transmission into. I hope she goes to a new home rather than a boneyard or scrapyard.
Right on.
That style filter causes more car fires than ex wives.
VGG 🤣🤣🤣🤘🤘🤘🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
That is incredible. My everyday car doesn't even run that well. Lol
Great find,It really deserves a transmission.
i would convert it over to a 4 speed
Yeah I expected it to be a L6 4spd but this truck is cool and definitely doesn't deserve to be parts after rotting out in the scrap yard!!
Nothing like the sound of these old fords.... brings back so much memories
They are great trucks.
Nice truck, she wanted to run, hope it will be rescued. Thank you for what you do so well.
Thanks very much for the nice comment.
What a reward.....a nice running Ford
Had a '78 F150 with the 300 inline 6, 4-spd manual. Was a great truck and hauled many loads of firewood in it. It went from VA to CA twice and unfortunately never came back. Hope yours met a better fate.
That thing runs perfect. You should put a transmission in it when you are able. It would make a great work truck for the channel, and it would pay for itself in time. Since you are doing mobile repairs for people, it would be very useful, and a used transmission shouldn't be terribly expensive for that truck.
Exactly! The owner might be selling it soon, and I'll be first in line.
That would be a great truck for you guys to load up with parts and tools and go out on the road on and fix cars
That's right. It definitely would.
This video gave me a very nostalgic feeling. Watching it with the snow on the truck reminded me of my dad working on his ‘73 Impala in the snow and cold when I was a kid. Just thought I’d share that.
That is a nice memory. Thank you for sharing.
‘79 Ford F-150 runs good, hoping it gets a transmission,or repair;worth keeping.Utility Body, and the goods are worth something! Another Great Video Richard! Your Oregon Friend ☮️
It won't charge if the ignition is not on with the duraspark, so the alternator may still be good. Get it out of there!! So worth saving this one.
That's right Kev. Once I put the ignition switch in, the alternator started working. It really is worth saving.
You are amazing with these old cars and trucks. Love your videos. Keep them coming.
Thank you Harry! More to come!
Another runner!
Sure makes you wonder how a fully stocked electrical contractors truck just gets parked and forgotten. All these vehicles have a story.
Another great rescue. Well done!
Thanks Gary!
Wow that engine sounds great, and it even idled on its own! I think with the stuff left behind that could worth a few bucks this thing is a win-win for someone.
I agree Ron. This could be a great truck.
What a shame, it would be nice to see someone put a trans in a it, it runs so well!!
Great job! Tool Body trucks never get the proper respect.
I agree!
302 sounded pretty decent when you started cranking it. Wasn't sounding like erratic compression. I was surprised. Those transmissions aren't expensive to rebuild - in a '79 the C6 seems to be the common one - and the body's solid. This is a fixer. To put the lock cylinder back in the switch, stick a paper clip in the small hole on the face of the switch with the key in the cylinder and, if I recall correctly, turn to ACC.
Thanks for the tip Gary. I was wondering how to get that key in there. Nothing I tried worked.
Had the same experience finding a good 302 engine in an old service truck. Makes one wonder how many other good engines R out there. Good engine for someone if nothing else. Good work.
True. All of these older V8s are getting tough to find in good shape.
I think the key needs to be on to energize the alternator rotor (not hot wired). I too was surprised that body was put on a 150 truck. Nice job getting it running! Sat for a long time.
You're right Vince. Once I put the switch in the alternator started working. Thanks for the support!
@@whattherust Yah, I thought you figured it out after watching it to the end. I posted that halfway through looking at it. I always thought it was weird Ford used those dash mounted ignition switches so late on trucks. A lot of those parts in those boxes were pretty valuable. I remember when scrap was high 10-12 years ago a lot of nice cars started showing up at the pull-a-parts. Now, I had to wait over a year for a car to show up like mine to get some parts after hitting a deer.
@@vincemajestyk9497 So true. The price of scrap has changed a lot.
Nice find.
Love The Show😂
Thanks Richard. You didn't say why you were alone. I just hope Christina is OK.
You did an awesome solo job though. Thanks again.
Hi Richie. Christina is fine. Our schedules didn't align for this one.
Great videos! Thank you. I always learn something!
Your welcome Charlie!
that truck is worth fixing and would make someone a good service truck great video really enjoyed
Thanks Howard!
Really enjoy your videos always great time never can tell what you will work on next 😁👍
Thanks for the support Mary.
You might have to reverse it out of that spot LOL
It's a shame that old utilitie truck had a bad Trans. ❤LoveJim J&R mobile service and God Bless y'all and your critters
Nice old truck thanks for posting.
You're welcome Steph!
I had 79. I would love to have that truck.
Great truck in great condition! Too bad about the transmission though. I hope the owner doesn't scrap it. It definitely is worth selling! Amazing old Ford! Thanks for sharing, Richard! 😎
Glad you liked it David! I am not sure what the owner is going to do with it, but I'll try to convince him to either sell it or save it.
old tenn plate, i miss the old red and blue styles, good episode again
Thanks!
That is unique, all of the ones I use for the telephone company were F2 50 or even one ton, side that’s a nice body too, it reminds me of a riding body
I agree. I have never seen a 1/2 ton service truck.
@@whattherust There was a 77 F150 service truck that was local around here for years I saw it often. It was for sale on FB marketplace a couple years back and in great shape. Only one I've seen besides this one.
Reading utility box body is what he was talking about and I have seen a very rotten 74 chevy c10 custom deluxe 250L6 4spd with bulldog first gear and 4.56 rear gear gm corporate 12 bolt rear end was a golden mustard yellow with the plastic type center stripe spear trim and the wrecking yard it was in still used it to pull vehicles around the yard .. has very little door skins and front fender wheel arches, and the floors are gone,, the middle of the firewall down is rotting as well last I knew they didn't want to sell it, claims that it has 56k original Indiana hwy mileage and has both the clean title, the factory owners manual with the warranty vin card in the inside of the owners manual and the battery warranty paper brochure?!
Please keep up the great work. Your channel has become my favorite as I started by using CZcams to help me repair my cars and then ended up at Vice Grip garage, which I like too. Thanks to your channel, I have been inspired to look for a cool project as a goal as I continue working on our daily drivers. I am still catching up on past posted videos. I love your truck videos (and the others too), and I am ready to find one that I can work on. I especially like that you work on these with tools that I own or can obtain. Great job, and I wish you much success in growing the channel.
Thank you for the nice comment Mark. This is great feedback for us.
nice truck, i like it, and its nice to see it start at almost the first crank, great video bro thumb's up as usual 👍
Thanks very much Dany!
Great Video sad transmission bad I enjoy your videos Richard and Christina cant do much now had colon operation and 67 now ran furniture store 40 years love cars and trucks though
Glad you liked it Ed. We have more videos coming soon we hop you will enjoy.
Looks like I spoke too soon. Well, better luck on the next one.
Well done, brother. It's wild how easy you got that little 302 running like a top was not shaking at all. Probably a C4 in it would be a waste to see this thing get crushed, someone needs to save it and put a tranny in it and made like a detail rig out of it. Paintless dent repair, cut polishing, interior cleaning 👌.
I agree. It is too good to scrap. Hope you and your wife are doing well.
@What the Rust? it's going great. we got some great video of the wife starting to get engine parts off the chevelle. Cuz in the spring, we hope to have a 350 to put in her. Was awesome getting some progress done on the 72 chevelle.
@@rescuedandrestoredgarage That is good to hear. That Chevelle is video gold. Do as much with it as you can.
@What the Rust? I was thinking the same thing. But the chevelle has not even got 10% of the 62 impala, and I was thinking, that's a bit weird, lol. And the 79 trans am has gotten no love at all and it's a legit Y84 k code car, I have chalked it up to our channel is still very small.but we are having alot of fun sharing our adventures. Thank you and your wife for all the support. We love you guys very much. We always look forward to seeing you both.
Someone used a high quality engine oil in it that is why Richard was able to get it running quickly. Lived on a farm for many years and we used Mobil Delvac 1300 in all of the vehicles.
Love your videos
Much appreciated Dale.
A good project. Remove the utility bed and put a normal one and you have cool truck.
Well my friend, It looks like you scored with this one !!!
You have got a good wife to support your hobbie and clean out some nasty cars and trucks. Enjoy watching your channel.
Thank you Lee.
Been missing ya’ll!! This is the first video I’ve seen from you in a long time. Welcome back!!
Thank you Jonathan!
You’re very welcome !!!
The paint on those heads around the exhaust ports it too good for that to be the original engine
Great work going solo Lobo, nice truck, was the prop shaft on it , thanks for sharing you tenacity to get it going 💨💨👍
Thanks Darren! Another viewer mentioned the driveshaft as well. I think it is connected, but I will check it.
thats a nice ol pickemup without toolbox bed well worth messing with nice work 😎😎✌✌
thanks as alwaze
You're welcome Joe.
Great video Richard. Shame about the tranny. What a great work truck that must have been. I’m thinking the dealership likely sold it and put the work box on as well as the bumper. Thanks for always entertaining us.👍👍🇨🇦
I think you're right Dan. It was a tool truck from the very beginning. Thanks for the support!
Look 4 spare key under mat or seat
It may have a vacuum modulator on the transmission.Maybe a thing to check. And the filter could be plugged from sitting. Really enjoy your videos.
Thanak Bobby! I have read that a C6 can lose gears if the filter is plugged. That definitely needs to be checked!
@@whattherust Thank you for the reply Sir. The C6 is one tough transmission. Still rebuild kits out there. The inside bottom of the oil pan will tell you just how bad it is. Love to see that truck saved. Again Thank you for the reply. Means a lot Sir.
Not may... it will have a modulator. That won't stop the transmission from engaging however - the modulator gets a vacuum signal from the engine which tells the trans to shift. From a dead stop, the modulator doesn't influence a trans. Peace & good vibes!

Awesome! 🏁🔧🏁🔧🏁🔧🏁🔧🏁🔧🏁
Thanks!
This truck deserves to repaired and up in running. I have a 78 F-150 Ranger XLT I bought new with now has over 200,000 miles on it and it is still running good. All though it had 2 hit and run accidents and in need of a lot of body work in which I am unable to do due to health problems, but like to get it done. I have done all the repairs except the transmission and motor that I had redone. Also have a 79 F-150 super cab and a 79 F-150 that need a whole bunch of repairs an d a motor replacement on the super cab, wiring harness under dash and some body work on the other.
It sounds like you have some nice old Ford trucks. I agree, the truck should be saved.
Nice easy runner for you Richard, shame about the trans but I suppose you can`t have everything sometimes.
Thanks. Yes, it was easy for how long it sat. If only the trans had cooperated.
GOOD SAVE
Thanks!
Mr. Richard I think that you should save that truck from scrap you can find a transmission for it
I agree. I will be speaking with the owner in a couple of weeks to see what he wants to do with it.
i am a gm guy but my hat is off to ford. they can sit and fire right up. thanks for the video.
Thanks Edward, and I agree. These Fords are unbelievable.
Thought that was going to be much tougher particularly the carb but you did it wow - great job - pity the trans is not working
Thanks Lance. I was surprised as well. I would have liked to have driven it out of there.
Good
Good one ,sucks about the trans
great job mate . the truck is crying out to lve again
Thanks Brett. I agree.
Don't know much about Creoil although it said that's what the pros use. But when we are opening all the boxes there was an outstanding can of Kroil. That would have done the job as well! Anyhow nice job as always oh, blessings to you and your family
Thank you Joseph!
Hope you hit 100k by end year or more 🤞
You ever drive them ?? Well not this one .. but other ones. Only will it runs??
I drive some of them, but usually they need lots of o\work to be roadworthy, so it takes a couple of extra videos to get them there. The 52 Chevy auction car is almost ready for its first time on the road in decades.
Hey Richard great job on getting this Ford truck running! Do you think maybe the Trans filter has a lot of junk stopping it from going in gear?It look like it trying to move one the first part of the video.Take care and keep them coming!!
That could be Kat. It was in reverse when I first started it, and I was able to get it into reverse a couple of times. The second day I was there the fluid was a very odd color, almost milky, so a change might make a difference.
@@whattherust a lot of people don't realize that when a vehicle sits for a long time the transmission fluid sometimes will be separated. There is paraffin wax in ATF that can separate and when it does, it tends to accumulate on the filter and plugs it up and starves the transmission of fluid preventing it from working. It will also be separated throughout the transmission so once the filter is changed, if it starts to work, even if it is working very poorly, either let it run until it is at operating temperature or find a way to heat the fluid, then cycle the transmission through the gears, then do a full transmission fluid flush and change, then it is ready for testing how well it works when driving it. In the case of separated fluid it needs to be brought up to operating temperature to remelt the paraffin wax back into the fluid so it can be completely flushed from the system or it will cause there to be too much paraffin wax in the new fluid which can destroy the transmission. Plus for some reason, once it has separated the first time, it will do it again any time the truck is parked for a few weeks or longer and will plug the filter and passages again lus it causes the steel check balls in the valve body to stick in place and stop the fluid from being redirected to the different passages for shifting into and engaging the different gears. I have encountered this a few times and it was a surprise how well it worked once a new filter and new fluid were put in after a good flush.
@@todddenio3200 That is great info Todd. I did not know transmission fluid did that. It is definitely worth a try on this truck.
@@whattherust its too nice of a truck to just give up on.
@@todddenio3200 Great idea Id be down for seeing part two of this vehicle Richard
Damn that would make a good truck for you , buy it get it moving
Nice hair brother
I just came across this video today and I have those exact same craftsmans cordless drills. They came in a set usually with a circular saw. Unfortunately it’s almost impossible to get new batteries for them or if you find new batteries there almost the cost of the drill.
Good to know. Thank you.
This needs a trans first. Then put air ride on it and slam it on the ground. Then cruise
C 6 easy rebuild
Finally broke down and ordered some that oil you keep flogging in the videos. Seems to do the trick.
Great! I hope you like it as much as I do.
Hi Richard, greetings from Scotland.
That’s a real shame about the transmission. The truck itself is very cool, and is worthy of saving. When you started it initially it sounded really rough, but actually as it warmed up it sounded very smooth, and not rough at all.
The body looked in very good condition, and it would be a travesty if it got scrapped.
Would you consider buying it and swapping in a working transmission?
Seeing it back on the road and scrubbed up would make an excellent video. I’m No expert on prices in the US of course, but I’m sure there would be a market for this in working condition.
Anyway thanks as usual for a very thoughtful video, and an interesting vehicle.
All the best,
John.
Scotland??? What the hell u watching this for shouldn’t u be doin something else at night time
@@BigkevdawgNSLBC it’s 5pm here . The bars are just open 🍺🍺
@@johnmontague4245 that’s cool brother so where do you live what city homie?
Hello John! Yes, I am considering buying it should it be for sale. The owner is undecided and the title is missing at the moment.
Good job! To bad about the transmission. Would make someone a good project and daily work truck.
Definitely!
Excellent video Richard :) also you fix tire problems on trailer wheels besides truck and put on back in front to ! Also if get a black bottle of Brand called WYNNES called Trans- Medic put transmission with fluid and start up truck go thru gears may help out get to move ! Trans Medic fluid check local auto parts stores if can get if not try Canadian Tire or Wal Mart they sell up hear in Ontario Canada were I live ! That stuff be transmission forever or if change fluid to plus filters too plus won't ruin transmission save them for great life and shift too!
Thanks for the tip Andrew.
@@whattherust Richard :) welcome!
Hard to believe that truck was 20 years old when it was parked. It's been sitting longer than it was on the road for. That transmission fluid does look like it has water in it. I bet the trans cooler in the radiator failed and it's letting coolant into the transmission. I know a guy with a 72 F250 that happened to. Didn't take long for the coolant to strip the friction material off all of the clutches.
That makes a lot of sense. I was wondering how water could have gotten in there.
@@whattherust That is most likely why it won't move at all. Water in the atf just ruins any kind of gasket or seal for some reason and all of the friction material is probably in the bottom of the pan lol.
Nice score thst could make you a nice revival rig.
Thanks Jeffrey. My thought exactly.
Need to make or buy a remote trigger starter button. Makes it easier and frees up one hand.

Hey Richard nice Utility truck I would definitely fix her up and put her to use or sell it either way it’ll make someone happy..oh where is your sidekick today we r missin her bro
I agree Kevin. This could be a great service truck. Christina will be back with me in the next one. We just could not get our schedules to align this time around.
Richard….unless you have interest in some of these vehicles, it would be nice to know contact info and price point. Surprised you don’t have interest in this truck for what you guys do. I personally have a trailer but this truck brought back to life could be perfect for your needs. Do a series making it fit for Christina to drive. Power everything, a/c, maybe air ride. Get your sponsors to load it up so you have all you need. Swap engine for something with more torque say 460. Still pull combo trailer car/camper for the out of the way places. You will be surprised how much more enjoyable your videos become when you have with you the needed parts like starter, fuses, cables, batteries. I know what I am going after when I head out on adventures such as yours. Take care and both of you stay safe.
That's right Richard, this would be a great truck for the channel. I can always put someone in contact with the owner if they are interested in buying a vehicle I rescue.
Feel like I am conversing with myself….your channel is different which makes it fun. A little change up like a short rebuild series for yourself could be entertaining. What I find irritating most about these “will it run” shows is how unprepared the host is. In cold weather I have heat. In summer I have cool fans. These guys that show up and expect a 15 year old battery to turn over and start an engine just amazes me. They never have belts nor hoses. Maybe I’m the one doing it wrong. Let Christina start doing things. When she asks you to check tell her no ! That is how we learn. Again…stay safe.
@@richardgabel33 Thanks for the support Richard. We have a few videos doing work on the 52 Chevy auction car coming soon.
What the status of the green early 50's Chevy in the background? It looks to be worthy of your talents.
I go that one going last summer. It will be going up for sale soon, so I might buy it.
Do those two old drills come with their chargers? Try charging them! Old Ni-CD and Ni-MH batteries are really reliable and very rugged as they tend to never die even after 25 years
You need to by a starter button.
How are you all doing
All good here.
You said you were flying solo today, I hope everything is ok and I wish I was there to help.😈👍
Oh yes, all good. Sometimes a vehicle comes around that we have to get after even if it is only one of us.
Thats crazy for a ford it started usually dont has to be bad transmission maybe bring it home with you and put a used trans in it
That is what I am thinking. I would not be a difficult swap if I could find a good used C6.
@@whattherust hey I wanted to swap my 5.3 litre in my siletado to a 8.1 litre you think tranny would work
That old truck would make a great "Will it run?" truck for you once it's cleaned up and repainted. After all, can't have Christina sitting in dirt.
I thought the same thing Richard! I could put all my tools in it, put the air tanks in the bed, and have everything I need.
@@whattherust, and if anyone can get that thing running, refurbished and back out on the road it's you two. A lot cheaper than buying a new one....plus we get another video or two.
@@richardcline1337 So true Richard. I am shocked at how expensive new trucks have become.
@@whattherust, even worse, they are more plastic than metal and so computerized that you have to pay exorbitant prices to get one fixed if the computers screw up. That old Ford is a far better truck than any of the new trucks will ever be. And you can bet NONE of the new trucks could be restarted after being abandoned as long as this one has been.
Good.job 😃😃😃👍👍👏👏cool
Thank you Francois!
They still sell ford f100 pick ups but they always have things that go out transmission brakes over heats stalls trouble starting the hinges on the hood wear out which makes it nearly impossible to open the hood.at least you tried do you think your ever go back and take another crack at it anytime soon
Time will tell, but I think the next step would be to get it out of there, drop the trans pan, and see what is going on in there.
If the trans fluid looks orange someone put additive in it. Thus provable burn trans.😊
❄👍👍❄
The brakes freezing up will keep it from moving too. Just saying those C6 trans. Are hard to break
Right, I thought the same, but it would occasionally pop into reverse which was noticeable. It still might be something simple.
Eastern TN?? I'll grab that truck off their hands for them! Lol
It is in Dickson.
great video. sorry you were not able to move it due to dead tranny. perhaps if you told the owner how good it runs. he might try to do something about the tranny. perhaps you can help with that. enjoyed your video. :)😀
Thanks! I am hoping the owner sells the truck to me eventually. I don't believe he will do anything with it.
that craftsman drill will take a new craftsman lithium battery as will other discarded 18 volt tools!
Good to know. Thank you!
Save it.Get a trans
PB and gas that is
When did it come off the boat tank
Tough luck on this truck. Offer the owner scrap price 12 cents a pound. You know that in a few months that a tranny will fall into your lap and you'll wish ya did. That engine seems solid. Not a smoker.
So true Jim.
Mystery oil?it’s been a mystery what it’s usefull for.the only juices needed are good ol pb gas
When you find a vehicle subject , what do u off camera before you film ???
I know this sounds crazy, did you check to see if the driveshaft was there? I know if it was undone at the chunk it might make noise but if it was undone at the tranny with just a yoke stuck in it you wouldn't know at all.
That is an interesting thought Eric. It did pop into reverse a couple of times, so I think the driveshaft is connected, but it is worth a check.
