I think it's definitely worth fixing and getting back on the road. The engine sounds and looks really solid, carburetors are easy to fix, of course. The roof can be fixed with a little sheet metal and some welding. Not much needed to make a good truck. 👍 But definitely worth the time! Thanks for sharing and getting it running!

It is a solid truck other than the hood and roof. The floors are good, and the bed is amazing. I am thinking of going back, rebuilding the carb, and getting it running right.

My sister and I use to Ride Quadrille and participated in Western Pleasure and barrel racing, I was 16 and she was 21 Dad had us use one of the farm trucks a 52 Chevy poor thing struggled pulling 2 horse trailer uphill. She finally ranted at him enough he went to a government auction and bought us a 62 Ford just like this one that was an old Forestry truck so green it was 4 speed and 6 cylinder handled the trailer really well usually only had to drop it in 3rd on the really big hills but that old truck really took us to plenty of shows and never missed a lick. Funniest story Dad had was it came a huge rain storm we put the horses in the trailer and waited till it went. They postponed the show, all the newer trucks had to be pulled out I was going to unload the horsed and Dad said nope put in 1st (Granny Gear) and it pulled us right out loaded trailer and all I didn't know it had posi traction rear end in it till then.

  • @CAROLDDISCOVER-FINDER2525

Make it into your convertible truck like the Dodge Dakota of what early 90s ish parrot seriously fixing that rest on the roof is not that difficult. I would be tempted to use body panel glue on the inside and attach sheet metal if you don't have the proper welder. But sheet metal patch on a inside after trimming out any thin or weakened metal. Clean it patch it on the inside and use hard auto body filler. Back in day I would use DuPont and don't even know if they make it anymore here but it would be green when it cured out of course has something to do with the color of the hardener. We have an old 60 Chevy sitting behind the barn and before 1980 my dad worked the back pain that had gotten crumpled. Smooth went out and left the DuPont filler exposed. The car has been sitting without shelter and not even been moved in the last 25 years. But couple years ago when I went and looked at it for whatever reason that wing was still just a slick and smooth on that putty! It was still green. And that back wing was sprinkled so he's straightened it out but he still had highs and lows like valleys so the metal is still exposed in parts of the filler and it's rusted and the filler still has not let loose! I have a Chevy truck horrific accident mangled it and I patched the cab corners somewhat like I just described. But I did not even weld that patch I use construction adhesive and aircraft rivets. And that patch bent with the Russian of the truck on one side and it halfway rolled over. And it's been sitting in the woods now since the mid 80s. oh I took parts off of it and use it to patch up some of the trucks so the door is even cut off of it for water to get into the cab. It is setting up on what amounts to stumps about 18 in to 2 ft across they're actually logs that are cut about 3 ft and length and now two feet of them are still above ground. White oak. Anyway I can't say enough good about that Dupont putty. And of course they make a call to replace the call that goes in the bottom of the rain gutter around the cab. I was just use a little propane torch and a çupped chisel to work out the old calk. Heck you're going to end up taking most of paint off the roof of that cab anyway. Any other rust they probably sell patch panels anyway. Whatever is wrong with the door probably needs to be welded because those hinges are notorious for rusting loose. Maybe if you get together to sell out again and he could paint it for you. Does he paint? I don't know. But it isn't that tough especially if you're going to just use the truck to drive around I would just use farm implement paint. It's all the rage right now on CZcams somebody along the line got wind of it and now other people are doing it. In southern Missouri there's a guy selling automotive paints dirt cheap probably Chinese knockoff. I've got the information somewhere but I got it from his CZcams channel and I don't remember what it was. But it was a poly paint. But there's nothing wrong with good old-fashioned acrylic enamel. Of course farm implement paint is enamel normally and you have to let bake on to get hard enough to where it doesn't ship easily. But if you're not hot climate that's dry let baked for a month out in the sun. I'd say after about 4 or 5 days you could drive it not on gravel but drive it and wherever you park it always have it sitting in the sun clear out that paint. If any of that is helpful fantastic. Heck just take a tan color putty and some gorilla tape on the inside and a plastic cheap putty knife and smear it in. Or take quite real estate and put it on the outside to at least keep water from continuously going in through the holes in the roof . why gorilla tape? If you don't want to come off without a lot of effort just put that gorilla tape on there and let it bake in the Sun. If you wanted to come off use duct tape or you can get a dollar roll of it in different colors at the Dollar tree. Unfortunately as far as I know white black and safety orange are the only colors it comes in. I'll finish up an example. I've got a rusty 56 Chevy solid surface rust from one end to the other end top to bottom not pitted . When we went and got that about 5 years ago maybe longer from Abilene Texas area I took this orange real estate which is close to $10 a roll and place in tow on the flat face of the trunk lid about foot or so tall. It has set for the North quite a bit in a very humid climate outside in the weather and that tape has only done one thing. It's gotten on there better. And that's sticking it to rust and only rust. I never leave home without it. I use it to tape the hooks on my safety chains when I tie down old cars and trucks on my car trailer. I'm not one of these careless guys that rely upon the electric winch to hold it when it's not designed to do that. Oh man I just kicked off a million people. Dot and the highway patrol and miscellaneous other police departments really like that orange tape on the hooks it makes it look official and it's safety orange. The tape is only there to keep the hooks hooked on the chain because they are loose until I crank it down with a hand mechanical winch usually more than one. Sometimes a loose anyway afterwards in case the vehicle moves three to six inches then they'll tighten up and keep it on the trailer. By the way their log chains. Okay well I think you have the makings of a easily nice driving truck. He sure to replace that master cylinder with the double reservoir cylinder and the brake line. Also if you're going to use that old tank take a spray can paint lid cut a hole in the top screw in a male air nipple set it over the filler spout tape it on if you like make sure the hose are line is disconnected underneath and hook it up to 100 lb or so of pressure and blow the crap out of that tank including the sock filter in the bottom of it that has to be cake up. Do the same with the fuel line but I would just replace it. You can buy premade fuel lines and brake lines specifically for your application that is a bolt on item and then not that expensive and it'll be updated hear it easy enough to put disc brakes on the front. And I don't know if your truck has ball bearings or roller bearings for the wheel bearing. Updated to roller bearing type wheel bearings. Replace every hose on it especially brake line. If you do go to disc brakes and power brakes be sure to get the most likely you'll need a larger diameter line. Sure it takes a little more time but it keeps you from wrecking the truck because of the faulty part because you replaced it with good quality new part. Also it keeps you from having to keep patching it from here to eternity. I don't know if that truck has changed to hold the tailgate locked but if it does get some garden hose of some kind of hose and cover the chains that doesn't reach a pain up and that change going to rust anyway. I guess you could go and get epoxy painted chains are decorative. I like the truck one reason all these ideas are coming to me. If you haven't moved it yet put in about 5 gallons of diesel fuel I know it's expensive hear it home heating fuel oil is the same thing. Put it in your gas tank and we'll just leave it be it will shake around as your haul it down the road on the trailer and you can run it off a tin can for short movements. And leave it set you'll be surprised how much it will clean out the inside that tank now the problem is the top of the tank often gets rust inside the tank on top. I would just move the tank to underneath the frame and see if I couldn't bring the gas cap up behind the license plate and use a hinge license plate holder on that bumper. Got to hold to the bumper and bring the feeling nozzle out there kind of like a 65 Chevy Impala hats or you can bring it out and under the bed behind the tail lights between it and the fender. I never liked bring them up to the floor of the truck bed. And there's a perfect way to fill the hole left in the cab. Measure the hole and find an electrician that puts in especially larger electric service boxes for commercial and home use. I don't remember that I am to measurement but there's one that fits perfectly in the hole and you can weld it in. There's another one you can weld behind the hole and use filler but I never liked doing that. Or just leave the filler cap and take the gas tank out so you got a little storage room for your jack behind the seat or something. Inside that filler whole put a turn key electrical disconnect to disable the truck so it will never start without turning the key again. It's a pretty good anti-theft device. Google it you'll see what I'm talking about those positive Interrupters for service on vehicle coming different style hear it you will need to take a stout tree limit the right diameter and use it as a backing as you cap and Hammer that round circle plug into the proper Arch to match the cab it doesn't take much. Have a good day

great video! if you can make the time for sure find a carb kit and sonic clean the carb and rebuild it. unless the throttle shafts are completely worn out I bet it would run pretty well. tires, brakes, a gas tank and tune up and it's road worthy with a seat swap. the step side bed really makes it. certainly a roof panel would be nice but can be patched. I'd come down from Chicago and buy it if it were for sale. love to see that truck on the road again.

Too bad he didn't keep that black plate active. I bought a car here back and it was a black plate car and he let it lapse then became a blue plate car and I figure what color the plate is on it but I've let it lapse now. I asked him what is so special about the black plate. Simply they haven't made them about 40 years so that shows somebody's had a car for a long time and it's just a matter of pride same thing with the blue plate although it's not quite as old. Go figure. I like that body style of Ford I'm more of a fleet side man but that step side looks good on that truck. Too bad about the rust on the roof. Anything's fixable though. There were some very fine examples and Southeastern Kansas for sale cheap. We're talking under $500! I bought what I thought was a 68 Chevy because that's where he represented as it turned out to be a 67 Chevy truck bedroom Bob on the frame to make a tow truck. And figure we're in the oven do it and what have you. It looks exactly like the early tow truck that cooter had on the dukes of Hazzard show. Provides a niche of collectibility. I did not get the tow bed with it. I wish I could have gotten more of them but that's all the time I had. There was a long bed 63 black no rust showing original paint everything Chrome as far as options. If I bought his dismantled raspberry stepside truck essentially a rust free version of what you were looking at. The step side he wanted $800 for it as a rolling chassis missing instrument clusters and so forth. He's going to throw in the other truck I describe the black one for 300 bucks as a parts truck! The property had been sold and all the vehicles are pulled out of all the barns. He was selling it for the owner and the owner just wanted to get rid of it so he wouldn't blow his multi-million dollar land deal . Whatever this guy got out of the vehicles the owner was letting him keep the money. One of those once in a lifetime everything lined up honey hold find. Anyway he said they've already sold the pretty decent ones. I wonder what they look like showroom quality? This man was a Mopar guy and was real proud of the Dodge pickups on price. That GM and Ford he was selling them for less than scrap value and loading on your trailer with a landowners giant tractor. I should have made more time to get back there. I really do enjoy your episodes and I'll let you know if I run across one of those Ford pickups like that. All I got is the remnants body wise cab trunk clip minus the hood and a short bed fleet side. I was wanting to put them on a new frame and I've owned the stuff for decades. Old cars and trucks are fun.

@@whattherust I think the oil filler is at the front of the valve cover on a 223 where the 262 has it closer to the air cleaner. The 262 seems rare, so I would guess it's a 223.

Our 55 ford Ranch Wagon originally had a 223. I swapped in a 262 from a truck. The dipstick on a 262 is attached to the oil pan instead of in the block. same externally. Some 262's had a different front cover that mounted the fuel pump. I intend to pull the 262 and put it in a 66 ford F600. I found a 390 T bird engine to swap in the 55.

Get a rebuild kit for the carburetor rebuild a carburetor or put a new brand new hauling on it in and then come back and drive it out of there or get it running or even push it out maybe if the owner may be considered selling it to you maybe if he’s willing to take it off he’s willing to sell it to you for for a small price I would possibly made me think about that
