Personally, I think that they did the “flawed teenage lead” thing very well in the first season by pairing it with Devi’s grief and trauma. That’s what drew a lot of people to the show because, sometimes, your traumas make you unlikeable. However, at the end of season 1, Devi had a breakthrough and processed the grief she was feeling over her father’s death. That’s where I think the show lost it’s plot. Because in season 2, while Devi’s father’s memories linger, she isn’t going through the same things, yet she’s still horrible. In season 1, we had a reason to empathize with her. But when you take the main element in Devi’s life that was making her act the way she did as a young girl out of the plot, which was her guilt and grief, you’re just left with a horrible person with self-destructive tendencies. And it’s hard to empathize with that. It’s hard to root for her. The show is still cringy and over-done but at times enjoyable. If there’s a season 3, I hope they find a better direction for Devi, instead of keeping her personality/behaviour constant without laying a good foundation for the audience.
more like flawed protagonist. same with carrie in sex and the city, rebecca in crazy ex-girlfriend, etc etc. first season was so amazing, holds up. second season was just ok. some bad storylines and outcome to storylines but overall its not bad just good vs the first season which was great

agree. this is so NOT as good as the first season, at all. the show jumped the shark the minute ben kissed devi. that should have staid a rivalry and never got romantic at all. devi and paxton have plenty of stuff to cause drama in their relationship without this one extra thing of a love triangle. so not needed or wanted. #benshouldbegay
