And the fish scene- Edvin suggested to Omar that he make Simon’s fish the names of his old boy band members, which he did. But while filming, Omar was not expecting the hug/neck nuzzle so he forgot his lines. That’s why it feels so realistic when Simon cannot remember the names of his fish!
*correction:* the entire fish scene was choreographed so the back hug was planned and expected. although for the fish names, omar knew the type of names he was going for (similar to his bandmate’s) but he had to come up with them on the spot while filming the take (thus it being improvised). that’s why it came out like that :)
The ending WAS anticlimactic it's true, but I also really liked it because you can tell that he's got a fire lit up inside him. Hugging Simon in front of the students and staff (and many parents!) was basically acknowledging that it totally was him, b/c you KNOW his mom was still like, you better not be seen with Simon in public anymore, even after the announcement. But after the phone call with her, he was like, screw that. But he can't just go blow it all up immediately, and respecting Simon's wishes is important too, so... big public hug. I'm just glad I already knew there was going to be a season 2 when I watched!
Love how Wille is mad at Simon for dealing drugs but isn't that he and his friends used the said drugs. It's ties to episode one rich Vs Poor dynamic where when the poor does it it's a crime.
i don't think simon was mad that wilhelm denied it was him in the video because it meant what they had wasn't real, i think he was mad because now he was in the situation alone since everyone already knew that he was in the video! loved ur reaction btw 🧡

I kind of liked the ending haha I can see Simon side and think he's right in not wanting to be anybody's secret, he deserves more. This show was such a cultural reset, honestly. Although Sweden is one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly countries in the world, we lack a lot in proper queer representation in mainstream media. To me and a lot of other queer Swedes, this show means so much. I really wish something like this show had come out when I was still a teen and struggling to find myself, I think it would have been so comforting. It's still comforting although I'm already 25... As a queer Swede, this show is by far the best show ive ever watched regarding queer representation. Also i agree with the tja thing. Hej or hejsan is a more formal way to say hi to people.
As someone who lives in Sweden, I will say, yes, Sweden Is an extremely lgbt friendly country, but the most of the ppl who live here doesn't rlly support us just bcuz of the demonization of us from the US and other countries. Like u cant go a day in the schoolyard without hearing the word bög or gay shouted to someother kid. It's mainly used as a slang for someone who's "bad" at a sports game or just someone who gives of "gay vibes" just bcuz they are very kind and not as agressive as the avarege dude. It stems from a celebration of the Italian saint Lucia as well. It's celebrated every year on December 13, and it's especially common for school kids to put on Lucia performances every year. I don’t think the ending was bad at all as it left us on a kind of cliffhanger. I like how it builds up so that you expect that Wilhelm and Simon will ‘make up’ at the end; Simon didn’t accept Wilhelm’s love or return it, he dismisses it. It also leaves the show on quite an ambiguous note in a sense that you can’t really predict what will happen in season 2 (cos nothing was confirmed at the end of the season). It’s way more gripping that way. Also I think its more unexpected rather than anticlimactic which makes it great. In my opinion it’s a great way to end a tv show season. Plus ending TV show seasons in a positive light is too overused so…😜🤞🏼🤞🏼 other than that loved the vid😎

Yes, that and the fact that it seems like he was violent while high/drunk. Just look at the scene where he discovered that Simon stole his medicine. Just to be clear, I understand why the dad is angry since he needs the medicine, but physical violence is never okay.
Actually I think it was a great ending. I didn't like it at first, but this way we're just in suspense for the next season. If they publicly kissed or Wilhelm said he was in the video, the story would have ended there. But now the story will continue. Also I think it fits really well to the characters. Simon just standing up for himself and Wilhelm being raised with responsibilities that are now (with Eriks death) even bigger than before. Pretty sure they both know they love each other, but the circumstances just don't fit at the moment.
Season 2 is on its way!!! I like what you said about Simon's dad. I can get a picture of how bad being next to him was by the way Simon acted when Wille was high. He was so angry and worried at the same time. AND YES WILLE IS A TEDDY BEAR. I guess he never had the chance to show who he is 'cause his mom and his position used to held him back. Even his bedroom looks kinda sad, there's nothing there telling us who he is or what he likes.
The way the Wilhem feels confortable with Simon and demonstrates it through his touch AAAA So cute. And i'm thinking a lot about how finding the stoned Wille messed with Simon, because he has all the relationship with his father that he didn't even tell. Oh my fucking god! (as Omar said). Can't wait for the Season 2.
I love the end of the season because it really sets up a future season. I like that they kind of ended it on a cliffhanger and you see this anger in Wille’s face. He has been basically betrayed and abandoned by his family and the monarchy and he is ready to FIGHT. The creator, Lisa Ambjörn, already had season two storyboarded before even knowing for sure the show would be renewed. She already had a plan for the future which is why the show ends the way that it does with us sort of hanging on not really sure what’s going to happen. This show is so good. Like you say, it’s not really what you expect but that’s all for the better. I thought it was going to be some kind of typical teen show that would be enjoyable, but it completely surprised me with how authentic and beautiful it is. And how they really delve into the experience of Wille as a prince- no freedom, no privacy. I also love how you couldn’t be angry at either Wille or Simon. Because they are BOTH right. It’s not so simple for Wille to just come out because he has the entire monarchy resting on his shoulders. But it also makes sense that someone like Simon, who is openly gay, doesn’t want to be in a relationship where he has to sneak around. That’s what makes it both heartbreaking but also understandable for both of them. Something has to give and the obvious right answer is for Wille to stand for love. What I really love about the show is that it doesn’t make homophobia a thing when it comes to the classmates. It also doesn’t make Wille have internalized homophobia. Instead, the homophobia is shown to be INSTITUTIONAL with the monarchy and the position Wille is in. His agency is taken away from him, because if it was just him, liking a boy, and he was a normal citizen, he wouldn’t care. Instead he’s in a position where he can’t be who he wants to be or who he is because of his status and his life. So amazingly done.

August kissed Sarah cause he was jealous of Wilhelm, he noticed Felice liked him and became paranoid she was cheating on him with Wille,, I guess he thought some shit like "Felice is cheating on me with Wilhelm, then I'll cheat on her with Sarah",,, who knows what goes through his brain tbh Something I love about Young Royals is the communication between the characters,, like when you were worried Sarah wasn't gonna tell Felice August kissed her, but she did and avoided a whole lot of drama. Of course they still have a lot of miscommunication but I feel that it's on a more realistic amount, and it doesn't feel like cheap drama

the ending wasn’t bad!! it’s actually kinda genius to leave an open ending in case the show gets cancelled (at that point they still had no idea whether it was going to get renewed), because in that case people can just think of their own little ending instead of being stuck on a cliffhanger that never gets resolved.

I have never heard someone before who: -Saw at the memorial song that their relation was out of question - empathized for August at the society thing -told Sara has to run form library when August leached the video -thought Sara tries to be Felice -was realistic about what they couldn't expected from the statement -differences statement for appearances, and their real relation -suspect Felice still obsessing over Wilhem -Saw the queen point about August - realized the strength Simon to sing at church after the humiliation Sara betrayed her brother too. Wilhem and Simon were outed ok, but also they just have their private moment expose, and that one can hurt too.

Lucia was an italian girl i'm not really sure how the whole story goes but she removed her eyes before her death because she didn't wanted to lose her virginity or sum, put them on a plate and got a new pair by god and became a saint. Now we celebrate her december 13th by doing "Luciatåg" Luciatrains where we go in trains/lines and sing songs. One girl gets to be Lucia at the front and center of the train/line and wear the same white dress as Willhelm is wearing but with a red ribbon around the waist and a candle crown to represent the light god gave Lucia. After Lucia in line is "tärna" usually girls are "tärnor". They have the same white dress, silver glitter crown and around the wait and a candle in their hand. Next is the boys who usually are "sjärngosse", starboys, with a cone dected out with gold stars and a sick with a big star. This is what Simon an Willhelm were because they have the white dress. But boys can also be Santa Claus or his elves, and previously you could be a gingerbread man but some thinks that's racist becuase it's kinda like blackface/making the brown/black kid in class be gingerbreadman just becuase they're poc i'm not really sure it's kinda controversial. Oh and usually one class does one Luciatrain for the school to watch and then we eat "lussekatter/lussebullar" and/or gingerbread, and washing it down with hot chocolate, milk or coffee. Sorry this was long, but i kinda wanted to share our tradition:)
I honestly like the ending, it's not a huge cliffhanger and the conflict got at least somewhat resolved but it also clearly leads into a second season. Because the whole story (like what would coming out publicly mean for Wilhelm, will there be consequences for August etc) is not resolved, I think it they had kissed, it wouldn't have fit really because it would have made it seem like it's over but it isn't if that makes sense?

This show has so many layers and i love how every person has some reason to do what they do even if its still not okay but they have some drive to do it and is not just evil bc they have no heart for anything.its amazing how all the different ideas obstruct the view of the value of what they have done.this show is truly realistically reflecting their feeling and lives of these people even though this has never happened. The story is so deep and complicated that i have watched it several times to deeper understand it. I personally dosagree that the ending is anticlamatic .i think it poses question of the season 2 and how their realtionship will evolve.its a rather melancolic meaning but i will argue that it has an amazing climax that would drove me to watch a 1000 more hours of it
I understand that the Queen has to protect the monarchy etc, but that doesn't mean that August should just get away with what he's done. She doesn't need to publicize anything's, but she can definitely punish him. That's what Wille is asking for. Also I understand that Wille is the Crown Prince and can't really admit that he's in the video, but he doesn't necessarily have to deny it either. Just ignore it. Simon got hurt cause he fell alone.

I really loved rewatching the show with you. I'll say I completely disagree with the ending. I think it's really anti-climactic, but I think that makes it pretty good. They're leaving Simon and Wilhelm separated and we understand that they love each other but also that they can't be together because of Wilhelm's status. I honestly wish there was less drama overall, that our characters had more time to just live life and develop their relationships, so I'm glad they didn't end with another scoop of drama. (Also the reason August didn't send the video from his phone was he didn' t want it to get traced back to him.)

I think the queen reacted terribly. I get why she thinks it's better to deny it was Wilhelm in the tape, but she should have thought about how it affected Wilhelm's and Simon's relationship. She didn't care though, because she didn't want her son to be with a boy. At least she could have told Wilhelm it was August. Even after Wilhelm's statement, August can still be punished for posting a s*x tape of two minors.
This show helped me alot back in 2021 with finding myself. And looking back, wow has this show aged incredibly. This show does such a good and realisticly harsh portrail of the toxic Scandinavian heteronormative frat boy culture. Being a gay teen in the so called "gay capitals" isn't so easy as people would assume.

As a queer Swede, this show is by far the best show ive ever watched regarding queer representation. Also i agree with the tja thing. Hej or hejsan is a more formal way to say hi to people.
As someone who lives in Sweden, I will say, yes, Sweden Is an extremely lgbt friendly country, but the most of the ppl who live here doesn't rlly support us just bcuz of the demonization of us from the US and other countries. Like u cant go a day in the schoolyard without hearing the word bög or gay shouted to someother kid. It's mainly used as a slang for someone who's "bad" at a sports game or just someone who gives of "gay vibes" just bcuz they are very kind and not as agressive as the avarege dude. The collared dresses are part of a swedish tradition called Lucia, where basically people dress up like they did in the show and sing celebratory songs about the power of light in the middle of Sweden's dark winter. It stems from a celebration of the Italian saint Lucia as well. It's celebrated every year on December 13, and it's especially common for school kids to put on Lucia performances every year. But there are also more "professional" ones done all over the country, and one like official one that airs on tv. :)
we do this in Norway as well! but im pretty sure we got it from Sweden haha. You can see the same tradition on the frozen short "frozen fever"

I don’t think the ending was bad at all as it left us on a kind of cliffhanger. I like how it builds up so that you expect that Wilhelm and Simon will ‘make up’ at the end; Simon didn’t accept Wilhelm’s love or return it, he dismisses it. It also leaves the show on quite an ambiguous note in a sense that you can’t really predict what will happen in season 2 (cos nothing was confirmed at the end of the season). It’s way more gripping that way. Also I think its more unexpected rather than anticlimactic which makes it great. In my opinion it’s a great way to end a tv show season. Plus ending TV show seasons in a positive light is too overused so…😜🤞🏼🤞🏼 other than that loved the vid😎

Just to be clear, I understand why the dad is angry since he needs the medicine, but physical violence is never okay.
Actually I think it was a great ending. I didn't like it at first, but this way we're just in suspense for the next season. If they publicly kissed or Wilhelm said he was in the video, the story would have ended there. But now the story will continue.
Also I think it fits really well to the characters. Simon just standing up for himself and Wilhelm being raised with responsibilities that are now (with Eriks death) even bigger than before. Pretty sure they both know they love each other, but the circumstances just don't fit at the moment.

Season 2 is on its way!!! I like what you said about Simon's dad. I can get a picture of how bad being next to him was by the way Simon acted when Wille was high. He was so angry and worried at the same time. AND YES WILLE IS A TEDDY BEAR. I guess he never had the chance to show who he is 'cause his mom and his position used to held him back. Even his bedroom looks kinda sad, there's nothing there telling us who he is or what he likes.
The way the Wilhem feels confortable with Simon and demonstrates it through his touch AAAA So cute. And i'm thinking a lot about how finding the stoned Wille messed with Simon, because he has all the relationship with his father that he didn't even tell. Oh my fucking god! (as Omar said). I love the end of the season because it really sets up a future season. I like that they kind of ended it on a cliffhanger and you see this anger in Wille’s face. He has been basically betrayed and abandoned by his family and the monarchy and he is ready to FIGHT. The creator, Lisa Ambjörn, already had season two storyboarded before even knowing for sure the show would be renewed. She already had a plan for the future which is why the show ends the way that it does with us sort of hanging on not really sure what’s going to happen. This show is so good. Like you say, it’s not really what you expect but that’s all for the better. I thought it was going to be some kind of typical teen show that would be enjoyable, but it completely surprised me with how authentic and beautiful it is. And how they really delve into the experience of Wille as a prince- no freedom, no privacy. I also love how you couldn’t be angry at either Wille or Simon. Because they are BOTH right. It’s not so simple for Wille to just come out because he has the entire monarchy resting on his shoulders. But it also makes sense that someone like Simon, who is openly gay, doesn’t want to be in a relationship where he has to sneak around. That’s what makes it both heartbreaking but also understandable for both of them. Something has to give and the obvious right answer is for Wille to stand for love. What I really love about the show is that it doesn’t make homophobia a thing when it comes to the classmates. It also doesn’t make Wille have internalized homophobia. Instead, the homophobia is shown to be INSTITUTIONAL with the monarchy and the position Wille is in. His agency is taken away from him, because if it was just him, liking a boy, and he was a normal citizen, he wouldn’t care. Instead he’s in a position where he can’t be who he wants to be or who he is because of his status and his life. So amazingly done.

I dunno I really loved the ending! didn't end on a huge cliffhanger which would've annoyed me more, but doesn't wrap everything up nicely to keep you wanting S2. and the 'Revolution' playing at the same time when he looks at the camera oml, im just hoping s2 is longer.

Something I love about Young Royals is the communication between the characters,, like when you were worried Sarah wasn't gonna tell Felice August kissed her, but she did and avoided a whole lot of drama. Of course they still have a lot of miscommunication but I feel that it's on a more realistic amount, and it doesn't feel like cheap drama

Loved the call back in the end to the first episode, like he was saying, that there is more drama to come. I feel bad for August about his dad, but other than that I really really don't like him. Understandable that Simon didn't want to be Wilhelms secret, and the Queen seems to care more about their reputation and legacy than her son. Can't wait for season 2 next year, even if it's only 6 episodes like this season.

the ending wasn’t bad!! it’s actually kinda genius to leave an open ending in case the show gets cancelled (at that point they still had no idea whether it was going to get renewed), because in that case people can just think of their own little ending instead of being stuck on a cliffhanger that never gets resolved.
One thing: august didn’t want to send it from his phone because it’s trackable (meanwhile they can only track the school computer’s IP address)

17:43 It is a religious tradition we have in Sweden called Lucia. Lucia was an italian girl i'm not really sure how the whole story goes but she removed her eyes before her death because she didn't wanted to lose her virginity or sum, put them on a plate and got a new pair by god and became a saint.
Now we celebrate her december 13th by doing "Luciatåg" Luciatrains where we go in trains/lines and sing songs. One girl gets to be Lucia at the front and center of the train/line and wear the same white dress as Willhelm is wearing but with a red ribbon around the waist and a candle crown to represent the light god gave Lucia.
After Lucia in line is "tärna" usually girls are "tärnor". They have the same white dress, silver glitter crown and around the wait and a candle in their hand. Next is the boys who usually are "sjärngosse", starboys, with a cone dected out with gold stars and a sick with a big star. This is what Simon an Willhelm were because they have the white dress. But boys can also be Santa Claus or his elves, and previously you could be a gingerbread man but some thinks that's racist becuase it's kinda like blackface/making the brown/black kid in class be gingerbreadman just becuase they're poc i'm not really sure it's kinda controversial.
Oh and usually one class does one Luciatrain for the school to watch and then we eat "lussekatter/lussebullar" and/or gingerbread, and washing it down with hot chocolate, milk or coffee.

I honestly like the ending, it's not a huge cliffhanger and the conflict got at least somewhat resolved but it also clearly leads into a second season. Because the whole story (like what would coming out publicly mean for Wilhelm, will there be consequences for August etc) is not resolved, I think it they had kissed, it wouldn't have fit really because it would have made it seem like it's over but it isn't if that makes sense?

This show has so many layers and i love how every person has some reason to do what they do even if its still not okay but they have some drive to do it and is not just evil bc they have no heart for anything.its amazing how all the different ideas obstruct the view of the value of what they have done.this show is truly realistically reflecting their feeling and lives of these people even though this has never happened. The story is so deep and complicated that i have watched it several times to deeper understand it.
I personally dosagree that the ending is anticlamatic .i think it poses question of the season 2 and how their realtionship will evolve.its a rather melancolic meaning but i will argue that it has an amazing climax that would drove me to watch a 1000 more hours of it

I understand that the Queen has to protect the monarchy etc, but that doesn't mean that August should just get away with what he's done. She doesn't need to publicize anything's, but she can definitely punish him. That's what Wille is asking for.

I really loved rewatching the show with you. I'll say I completely disagree with the ending. I think it's really anti-climactic, but I think that makes it pretty good. They're leaving Simon and Wilhelm separated and we understand that they love each other but also that they can't be together because of Wilhelm's status. I honestly wish there was less drama overall, that our characters had more time to just live life and develop their relationships, so I'm glad they didn't end with another scoop of drama.
(Also the reason August didn't send the video from his phone was he didn' t want it to get traced back to him.)

I think the queen reacted terribly. I get why she thinks it's better to deny it was Wilhelm in the tape, but she should have thought about how it affected Wilhelm's and Simon's relationship. She didn't care though, because she didn't want her son to be with a boy. At least she could have told Wilhelm it was August. Even after Wilhelm's statement, August can still be punished for posting a s*x tape of two minors.
This show helped me alot back in 2021 with finding myself. And looking back, wow has this show aged incredibly. This show does such a good and realisticly harsh portrail of the toxic Scandinavian heteronormative frat boy culture. Being a gay teen in the so called "gay capitals" isn't so easy as people would assume.
