      Minkki82, to be more precise, he could certainly top the field if he was consistent. The man has occasionally *crushed* players like Kasparov and Carlsen. On a good day, he could beat *anyone* ...
      Sadly, his performance is very inconsistent, and I'm afraid that's not a "choice", or something he could "fix" - it's the flip side of his creativity. Ivanchuk is an artist, through and through; not a mental athlete.

    Chucky is really in love with the game. I think he loves the game more than anyone does. The joy with which he was explaining the variations shows how satisfied he is to find them. Also he does not rely on computer preparations and opening novelties to win games but his exceptional positional understanding,calculation and intuition. Not surprising he is one of the most liked personalities in the world of chess.

      If you look at games nowadays from top gms, they don't go to unknown territory only if they are prepared, they are afraid to lose games because they'll lose elo and shit like that, absolutely pathetic, why doesn't everyone unleash their inner beasts and play good chess instead of putting a position in an engine and remembering the moves.

      As much as I love this interview and I keep watching it non stop, this isn't true. Many top players can do that. There's a video in which Grischuk analyzes a game with MVL, or in general in every chess interview you see the player commenting out of memory. For super GMs visualizing the board without seeing it is no big deal.

    • @tomerbauer
      @tomerbauer Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, but it ain’t so.. all super GMs can easily remember games on that level. I suspect that most of them have just learned that other people are not interested in hearing their entire thought process. Luckily, Ivanchuck doesn’t care about that and the reporter was very kind in giving him all the space he needed hence we got this gem.
