They feel like two drunk friends convincing the police theyre not drunk
why is this so spot on
Original comment: That's how I stand beside my buddy when he tries to convince the bouncer he's not drunk.
I'm sure that this interview is very interesting for the two-dozen people in the world that can actually follow it in real time.
I think the interviewer wanted a shorter answer without any actual moves and just didn't dared to interrupt.
two dozen? there are thousands of GM's that can play blindfold. tens of thousands of masters/experts, and most of them can also play blindfold and follow along to moves in their head.
@@ClassicMist360 yeah there’s a video of someone who was “only” 2200 playing 4 games simultaneously, all blindfolded. He won 3 and drew the 4th. Granted, the people he was against ranged from terrible to kinda bad, but he’s playing 4 people blindfolded lol
Ye so if youve watched the game with some level of attention its or even if you played a game yourself its really not that hard to visualize even ling variations. Its a bit harder to follow the evaluation part but still. Id say from 1700 on if ur payint attention you can follow what they are saying ur evaluation is just gonna be much worse. Still theres like tens of thousands who can follow this easily
@@ClassicMist360 Have you ever heard of hyperbole for comedic effect?
I think it is the most complete answer to an interview question ever.
I was nodding along and smiling just like Hikaru, only difference is he had an idea of what Grischuk was saying lol
No he didnt.

👌🤭🤣
Its fascinating how well they can visualise the board, the game and variations of the game that didn't even happen. I know they've been playing all their lives but still.
I'm very curious if an average person plays regularly for 5 or 6 years, can you develop this ability? Or is some innate talent also required?
If you play chess for a long time and spend so many hours looking at it obviously you will be able to do this after time it’s a skill that can be learnt and trained just like any other skill grandmasters are not super human in the sense they are born with it but they are superhuman in the amount of time effort and dedication they put into learning something
@@lukeanatol5512 Having had many hobbies I have seen how people can get vastly different end results in ability even with the same training! Hopefully whatever innate powers I have are enough to be able to visualize the whole board for 3 or 4 moves one day.
I was interested in this topic and received an answer from a master. if you learned to play chess later than about five or six years in childhood, then it is unlikely that you will be able to acquire such a chess memory
@@TheForever119 I've always wondered if they could still clearly see the position if multiple pieces were moved simultaneously and consecutively. At what point does it become a blur?
Does anybody else find this absolutely hilarious? The fact it cuts on him just endlessly listing chess moves while hikaru, who looks like he's 4 feet tall, does his best impression of Sil from the sopranos is killing me
I think Grischuk is about 6 ft 3 or 6 ft 4
Every time he speaks I have tears in my eyes 😂
I was in tears when I saw this. Grishuk is so immersed in the game that he seems to forget neither the interviewer nor the spectators (other than Nakamura and perhaps a few grandmasters watching) are with him anymore, just a few words into his post match review. The honest naïvety, combined with the sheer visualization power and the Russian accent, makes this hilarious indeed.

These super Grandmasters are different species. Their visualisation is absolutely mind-boggling.
Honestly an IM, or even a strong NM, visualization is already extremely impressive to me. I have seen NM playing blindly against four people at the same time, it is complete nonsense for me to keep four boards visualized at the same time.
Anyone who can play blindfold can do this. People often gain the ability to do this around 2000 level
@@arnavrawat9864 It's strange, I am at the 2-2.2k level , but my visualization lasts for a few moves at max. I can't do a single game blind-folded, let alone 4 games at once. I suspect this is because of all the rampant mostly harmless intoxication during college.

One of the best chess clips ever! The entire composition, the analyses, the smiles and noding, the difference in heights, the accent… it is so perfect surreal interview. It should be in a gallery, not on YT.
Perfect comment brother. Agree utterly
When he said "bishop e4 rook take e7 bishop c2 rook c1 rook g2 bishop f3"
I felt that. 😔
Hikaru trying not to laugh, then looks up to calculate and nods, then tries to be serious is too funny
I wonder how frustrating must be for an interviewer not to be able to understand answers to their own questions
There is one more interview by Tania. I forgot who she interviewed but he analysed the entire game for like 10-15 min when she asked something like what did you think of the game. I don’t think the interviewers care about the answers for themselves, they just need to have the answer recorded so viewers can listen
And he's rattling off these complex lines aloud in his non-native language. Just incredible.
Great interview, I hope he didn't feel pressured to keep his answer short and withhold mentions of other positions and move variations, I'd hate it if we missed out on a full elaboration of what could have happened
🤣🤣
It's so crazy they can do this
Not really, they're doing it in the game. It's crazy when they can still remember this 5-10 years later.
This is a baki fight where three whole 2 hour fights took place within a minute entirely in their imagination
Not fair on Grischuk that he has to visualise the board in his head while Hikaru just looks at the one on the ceiling

Thank You 🤣
I could spend the next 200 years exclusively playing chess and could not do this. These guys are cyborgs. Awesome.
You'd be surprised. Of course, you might need the whole 200 to get as good as these guys, but you don't have to be that good at chess before you start being able to remember most of a game you just played and some of the moves you were thinking about at different points in the game.
You don't need 200 years, you should be able to achieve that in a year if you practice regularly, everyone can do this, it's not hard. It's not that hard to understand what GM are doing with their moves. It's whole different story to perform consistently on their level, but to spectate their game, if your are ELO is 2000+ you pretty much already should be able to understand strategy behind most of their moves and should have no trouble following their explanation.
I'm lucky if I can remember what I played 3 moves ago

its comprehensible visualizing the board with what he is saying, the thing that amazes me is that these GMs (nakamura for example) instantly knows which move or moment in the game sasha is referring to even though he immediately switches another line, then talks another line
