That should be pinned on top
Thank you for that.
Is that true? That's amazing. The original Russian movie version is on CZcams, and I've been meaning to watch it for a long while. Now, it will be my Christmas movie. Also, it definitely was a brilliant joke by Ivanchuk.

Tbh if you can out calculate your opp its normal to win on the clock, because you're forcing your opponent to do calculations that you can do faster.
It is unexplainable how this guy just goes to play a tournament with no opening ideas against a master.
He is such a troll.
I love him.
Once he destroyed kasparov when playing Bb4 and right away going back with Bf8 just to troll him. 20 moves later kasparov resigned after ivanchuk castled 😏
He's known for playing every opening (no matter how unpopular or bad it is), which actually makes it really difficult for *his* opponents to prepare against him.
To get that reputation i guess the perfect mentality is just "I'll play whatever I feel like in the moment"
Ya he forgot everything from his entire career of many decades and only knows one move in the opening! Cant believe it. Wow.
He's like a walking opening database xDDDDD

Chess certainly has the power to make men happy.
So early caruana remembers to defend the knight

His happiness while explaining shows his passion and Involvement in chess
It's crazy how he remember all the game's moves and all the calculation he made throughout the game
they say he remembers every game he played in his life though not every line but the main ideas, he was asked about it during a gibraltar masterclass i attended
It's not often someone in this kind of field is unanimously described as a genius. He's completely off the charts. It's very likely he does remember every move of all his games and probably every classic game he studied as well. That's not really the extraordinary part. Many people have that memory but aren't even close to his intellectual calibre.
The best Ivantchuks video moment is when he's busy playing an 8x8 checker's game (for a wager I think) when he's called for getting his tournament first prize, he rushes to the podium and while he's waiting and receiving his prize, you can see him pondering and his hand moving imaginary pieces in the air because his mind is still totally busy calculating moves and variations in his checkers game (which he promptly wins once back to it) . We've all been there but it's very typical for him :)

Aww..."You are worth more than the Queen and the Rook combined". 😍🥰
Wich is just two small pieces of wood :/
This is like a engine speaking in English with a strong accent 😆
No, it's not.
Engines are monotones and tiresome to listen
Ivanchuck doesn't speak in monotone, actually he uses lots of intonation.
He only has an accent, but so does almost everyone who learns any second language
And out of so many useful things to say about such an interesting and instructive video, I think that comparing his accent to an engine is not a smart thing to say.
@@danilopablo9848 he isn’t comparing the accent to an engine, he is saying that Ivanchuk is so good that he is like a chess engine with a voice

We totally need a whole stream doing just impersonation of Ivanchuk.
There was one intreview that i just cant find, i hope someone can help. Ivanchuk is being interviewed by Maurice and he ignores most of his questions and just starts talking about the game he played against Morozevich and how he was lost in 10 moves or something, that was just pure joy to watch.
This is one of the best chess videos I have ever seen. Incredible how can he remember all the variations of every single position and then subvariations and then a balance of the alternate position.. and then get back to the main line. I gotta confess I was high when I watched this video and it was magical. Thank you Levi.
The complete openness about such an insanely deep thought process is amazing to watch.
Ivanchuk is by far my favorite chess player. A living legend.

Yes boss I do.
Chess interviews are tight!
Ivanchuk did a rook lift, trapped the bad guy with check, and saved the day!
i remember agadmator recommending this interview a couple years ago. Ivanchuk is addicted to the lightbulb moment. what a character.
Hi Gotham,
In episode five of Queens Gambit was mentioned a game variation named after the Lithuanian chess player Vladas Mikėnas.
Born in 1910, Mikėnas was the first professional Lithuanian chess player, an international referee, journalist, and author of books about chess.
Mikėnas became the Lithuanian champion several times, won the Estonian Championship in 1930, and played in the finals of the USSR chess championship 10 times.
In 1987, Mikėnas was awarded the title of Honorary Grandmaster by the International Chess Federation FIDE.
Mikenas System, also called Flohr-Mikenas System or Mikenas-Carls System, is named after the Lithuanian player.
The defence of the queen’s horse is also called Bogoliubov-Mikenas defence.
Would be amazing if you could cover any of Mikėnas games in your videos :)
