BEST Saucony trail shoe of the year? | Saucony Endorphin Rift Initial Review | Run4Adventure

- Saucony Endorphin Rift first run and first impressions review. Last year I tested out Saucony's go-faster carbon plated trail running shoe, the Endorphin Edge. There were lots of elements of the shoe that I really liked but I'm still not convinced we need stiff carbon plates in our trail shoes and I did find they felt a bit unstable on technical terrain. So when I heard Saucony were producing the Endorphin Rift, a trail shoe built off a similar platform to the Edge but without the carbon plate in the midsole, I got all excited! The Rift has just arrived at Run4Adventure HQ and today we're taking them out for their first run and we're bringing you guys along with us!
Thanks for watching, we'll see you in the next video and as always - stay safe and keep on running!

Yay to Endorphin Rift! I am looking forward to comparison of Rift vs Xodus Ultra 2.
Mine just arrived - 15 miles and 3,000’ vertical later, my legs feel fresh. I really enjoyed the ride of the Rift. Work well on loose rock, slick rock, muddy single-track and buffed dirt/gravel. Lockdown is just superb! Much more stable than the Edge as you point out. Nice-looking but I agree with you that white makes little sense for any trail shoe. Highly recommend.
How do you think they compare to the Xodus Ultra's?
The first question that came to my mind
Yep, definitely want to hear Loyds answer
+1 on that. I love the xo2.
This Looks like a flimsier version (sans plate) of the endo edge which I wasted money on that unstable piece of cr*p
Also need that info vs Xodus 2 - especially when it comes to forefoot space.
Let us not forget the durability. Loyd had tears on the midsole on the edge and not sure about the upper of the rift versus that of the xu2
Have to appreciate the absolute effort you put in to these videos. All of the angles and running footage. Great work.
Thanks for the great review as always, i also love the Peregrine13 and Xodus Ultra2, but very bad ankle twist with the Endorphin Edge, i want to try this Rift now, thanks a lot for your honest review, , and yes! keep adding the bloopers at the end!!
You definitely steered me right with the Xodus Ultra recommendations and am currently loving the Peregrine 13. Really excited to see what your final review is on this one. As someone who rolls their ankles frequently on trails I'm steering clear of the Endorphin Edge.
Bang on as always Loyd, I’ll add these to the list😂
Hey Loyd.
Another good review - first one in the wet stuff for a while 😂
Have to agree that carbon plates don't belong in trail shoes 👊🏻
Hey Lloyd I did see you but didn't get to say Hi. It was because of this channel I was there to run my 1st ultra you recommended it as a 1st ultra so I took that advice travelled down from north wales and had a great time.
Thank you for another good video. I’ve always ran in the peregrine, and I’ve been happy with it, especially the exceptional grip on technical terrain, however, the most recent version 13. For whatever reason, Saucony reversed, the six center arrow lugs in the rear to face forward, rather than they seem back, and I’m finding myself slipping in the heel, when doing descent, even when walking down a trail, it slips, and then catches, which I never experienced in any other peregrine Chue, where the heel arrow lugs, always faced back in the front lugs, always faced forward, which was a really nice secure design. They also flipped the rear arrow lugs on this endorphin rift, but fortunately they left the rear facing arrows on the xodus ultra 2. so I’m now running in that Chue and I don’t have the slippage issues. I tried on the endorphin riff, and I noticed it runs a little smaller, and seems a little higher, and is planted and secure with lateral movements that I find in the peregrine. I guess that’s the problem with cushioned trail shoes. They have to lift your foot up higher, and it’s just not as stable laterally, which could lead to a rolled ankle.
I hope Saucony brings this shoe to my country. If they do, seems like this will be my next trail shoe!
How's the ride and particularly stability compare to the Norda 001? I love how planted the Norda feels - also love my white Norda colorway 😉
To be honest. If you are going to run off road during a British winter all shoes look filthy whatever the colour. I don't even clean mine. Five minutes into the next run they will be filthy again. These shoes look interesting. Although I agree the 4mm lugs may be a problem when ankle deep in January mud.
I’m loving the xodus ultras (1&2). Their foam is on point.
@@benmapplebeck i noticed i rolled my ankles on the xodus shoes quite a bit even on trails with mulch. I still love them ,but if the Rift doesnt do that then that will be my new go to trail shoe
I'll go contra on the white color - love it! Us trail runners ought to wear mud, blood, and the like, as badges of honor that partially define our sport! Thus, having mud and dirt stand out better on our shoes is something to be proud of! Let the roadies detail their shoes daily. Of course, that is largely in jest, but on bright hot sunny days a white shoe is going to lead to cooler feet and toes, and the opposite for black. So for pure performance considerations; white is best IMO. Great review, here and the Rift long run one too, got the shoe. Hope the forefoot is wide enough for me, and that that paucity of laces up front does not lead to instability as I am a forefoot striker. Cheers.
.......side note: Rift stack height is now listed as 33/27, where the End. Edge was 35/29. Slightly lower chance of ankle roll straight away.
Hi Lloyd, would you saw this shoe is more comfortable/cushioned compared to the speedgoat 5? Txs
Thank you Loyd 👍
Been running in Altra LPs and Saucony peregrine 10s for a very long time…0 drop and 4 drop. I tried the new Saucony Xodus 2 recently (6 drop). Wow, my lower legs never hurt so bad. Every time I run in them my lower legs feel broken the next day. All I can come up with is the drop. So I went back to the LPs and peregrine 10s…no issues. Went back to Xodus 2 and again the next day was in terrible pain. Am
I that use to low drop? 6 drop isn’t even that high but I guess it’s enough that my body is not having it. Luckily for me I still have 3 pairs of the peregrine 10s in the box! Also, LP 6 was my favorite version and I have a few pairs of them still in the box.
Have you done a review on the Reebok floatride adventure?
I have paid alot of money( maybe wasted),on various top brand/model trail shoes that sit doing nothing, but I continue to go for the Reeboks, which cost me £48 ,perfect for summer trails.
It would be interesting to see your thoughts on the New Balance Hierro v7. After searching for a wide Speedgoat I gave up and went with the Hierro. Blown away. Much more comfortable on first try than the Peregrine I tried in the local running shop too.
To be fair, the Hierro v7 is going to feel more comfortable than a Peregrine because its a deeply cushioned trail shoe so it hard to compare them? 🤔
Thanks for watching 🙏
Thanks Loyd for fantastic review! Can you later update review about durability of Endorphin Rift?
I'll be doing a full in-depth review on the Rift once I've run more miles in them 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏
@@Run4Adventure Look forward to see your video from next trail adventure! 🙂
Be nice to have a "behind the scenes" vid on your trainer reviews, do you pay for them, how do you get the size correct, what happens to all the ones you don't like etc...?
seems like a good shoe to alternate with my xodus ultra but i'm worried for my high instep if the gusseted tongue is tighter than xodus ultra's tongue
What do you think of the 'new' Speedland shoes?
Are they worth buying?
I haven't tried them out so it's herd to say? It's definitely an expensive trail shoe! 🤔
My running shoe cupboard is full of Saucony. No carbon anywhere though.
How is this compared to the Norda 002?
Lads just wondering do ye think this would be a good shoe 4 a multi day trail race (250km) under foot would not be very technical and mostly would be sand either soft or compacted. Any advice welcome
It's definitely a trail shoe that could handle that kind of race distance and underfoot conditions. What trail shoes do you normally run in?
How do you compare to the Xodus ultra 2?
It's quite a different feeling shoe. The sock upper feels very different compared to the Xodus Ultra 2 and the midsole on the Rift has a bit more bounce to it Simon 👍
Thanks for watching 🙏
Do these have a wider toe box like the edge ?
I would say the fit is very similar to the edge but I wouldn't say they're wide 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏
Saucony Rift or NB Summit Unknown? The upper on the rift looks very comfortable. I love the white trail shoes.
Hi OneTouch1980. For me, the Nb summit unknown. Good day.
Unfortunately I did not have the same experience. Slippery on rocks and wet ground. Not a very stable shoe. Sent back after 1 run. This compared to a Hoka Mafate Speed 3 was night and day. I finished my run in my Hokas.
So why these, instead of Xodus Ultra..?
I'm not saying these instead of the Xodus Ultra Richard? I'd say the biggest differences are the upper and the fact that the Rift has a full PWRRUN PB midsole, where's as the Xodus has a core of PWRRUN PB. Because of this the Rift does feel a bit bouncier underfoot and a bit more responsive than the Xodus. Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure thank you! This was what I wanted to know. 🙏
I love white shoes. White trail shoes included. All time favorite trail shoe on fit, protection, and ride is the all white, ice blue midsole original brooks catamount.
Not sure the flouro green colour I've seen elsewhere is any better... I am a Saucony fan performance wise but their colours are awful!
I was a whisker from buying the Xodus Ultra 2 today, but was put off by some reports of faults in the mesh on the upper. Does anybody here have any experience with the shoe that can help me decide?
I've the ultras 2 for about a month now. Love them. Zero issues and super comfortable.
Same. No issues so far
I got a pair, the clear rubber that goes around the base of the upper and connects to the midsole started delaminating almost immediately. At first it seemed just cosmetic but then the midsole started peeling off the outsole. Only in one shoe. Returned them for a refund, I think I just got a bad one. Loved the shoes otherwise
I love mine! Super comfortable and stable, no issues.
Buy them - you won’t be disappointed 😊
toooooooo expensive . I bought the endorphin speed 3 on sale for 94 euros last week ,
I don't mind the white. Some of Saucony's pink colorways have put me off though.
£180 😖
white does better in the extreme heat doof
Oh Dear....Here we go again..Why do we keep getting 🇺🇲 🗑️here in the 🇬🇧... Oh cos we are gullible and we will buy anything....These better get discounted by at least 40% back to normal pre-pam pricing
Bad take is bad lol. There’s a reason US brands dominate both road and trail podiums…however, I LOVE Inov-8 and Salomon for certain purposes!
Good afternoon. At 🇪🇸, the rift=200€. Thanks Loyd. Here is my like. ⛰️🏃⛰️
