I was wrong.... The Tudor Pelagos FXD is freaking awesome.

  • Tudor Pelagos FXD is really a lot cooler than I initially gave it credit for. After being hands on with this watch for a week, I have truly been won over to this watch & I have fallen in love with it!
    The first few things that made me hesitant about it were:
    1. The fixed lugs / spring bars
    2. Only 200m Water Resistance vs the Pelagos 500m
    3. Bi-directional bezel
    But honestly, since having some time to think on it, and letting the hype die down, and just being hands on with this piece - all of my hesitations slipped away and I've just fallen in love with it! Very charming, rugged and handsome watch. The 42mm is admitedly, a bit large for me. Probably the largest I could ever attempt! But ... It's just a cool watch!

    I'm not a diver nor a watch collector, but I do dispatch for wildfire management. The countdown bezel is perfect for timing half hour check-ins with helicopters. Plus, spring bars are the bane of my existence. I can't tell you how many spring bars I've bent over the years. The thought of not having to deal with that problem ever again makes the Pelagos FXD a no-brainer.

  • @jeffone

    What I love about the FXD is that it is a purpose built tool, rather than a spec monster, or fashion watch. That said, as a Canadian the Marathon GSAR ot TSAR would be my first pick for a military dive watch.

  • @municipalbondsconfidential5700

    I’ve been wearing my FXD non-stop since last December. Most rugged, comfortable and legible watch I’ve ever owned. And the MN 21 engraving on the back is just icing on the proverbial cake. A real nato strap monster!
    BTW I sold my BB58 Blue to buy this one, and I do occasionally miss it- especially when I see one on your wrist. Sigh.
    Very entertaining and informative video, Brittany. Keep them coming!

  • @zenpurity

    You could easily rock the FXD - because of the titanium build, it's very light and extremely comfortable. Big thumbs up!!

    1. Lightness of Titanium

    3. Bidirectional bezel
    4. Fully indexed bezel
    5. No date
    *Personally the countdown bezel doesn't bother me
    Hard to come across the combination of those things in any other watches I have come across, which lines up with exactly I was looking for.

    Former navy guy here.
    Navigation is a function of Time, Speed, and Distance (and bearing which would be done with a compass)
    In this case, you use Speed (pace) and the distance you need to travel, to work out the time you should travel in that direction. Example, if you are swimming at 10 m/min, and need to travel 100m (at specific bearing), you need to swim for 10 minutes in that direction. Enter the countdown timing bezel. When it hits 0, you made it to the waypoint and start your next bearing and time to the next waypoint.
    Time=Distance/Speed
    Also, love your work Gringa! 🤘

    Finally an FXD review! Great to see that you like it. What does James think of it? Is it now on his Wish List? Another entertaining video, Brittney. Thanks! This is my review for others who might be interested:
    To those who are thinking about purchasing a Tudor Pelagos FXD but are still sitting on the fence, just do it! You can thank me later. After spending quality time with it I truly can’t find anything to complain about. It’s that good. It’s the definition of tool watch. Adjectives that first come to mind are purposeful, utilitarian, tough and rugged. Although it’s incredibly understated with its brushed Ti case, matte dark blue dial and ‘matte’ ceramic bezel, it surprisingly has great wrist presence. Don’t expect it to be showy or blingy. There is zero bling. The FXD’s design esthetic somehow offers a perfect balance between a relevant/trendy vibe and a vintage vibe. Like most Rolexes, this Reference has all of the good vintage details/DNA of its iconic ancestors and yet, still feels fresh and contemporary due to its lack of any faux vintage patina. It’s Ti light yet still feels substantial. The case size is 40mm and the bezel is 42.6mm so it wears comfortably on my 7” wrist, similar to a 40mm Submariner, yet offers more wrist presence due to the oversized bezel. It sits ‘relatively low’ on the wrist due to its 12.75mm thickness and its standard single-pass NATO strap conforms perfectly to the wrist so it wears comfortably. From a practical side, it’s the most legible watch I’ve ever owned. Highly recommended.

    Great Video as always Brittany🤙 I have been interested in possibly acquiring a Pelagos for a few years, alas it hasn’t come to be… yet. I was floored when the FXD was released… WOULD I miss the bracelet? Perhaps, but sailing, swimming, SUPing or doing other things I’d generally do while using it would be better served by a strap… The count down bezel makes this akin to a “thinking man’s” (unreleased”) Titanium Yachtmaster! …Thinner = a winner. And the color… oh the color. It’s a better, darker Blue, period.
    My only real concern was that people were reporting the effective lug to lug as a smidge over 50mm. I’m about a 7” wrist and the FXD looked great on your husband, so my concern is gone:) Saving for a Tudor Pro, FXD or Seiko SLA043. Maybe a 58blue, but now that the Pro exists all I can think about is that T Fit Clasp. Thanks Again for the great Content and positivity in the community.

    I have a blue snowflake sub from 1969 which is lovely but not necessarily best suited for my lifestyle of walking into door frames, diving and shooting guns cycling etc - I have the Pelagos LHD and really appreciated the blue Pelagos but didn't want two of the same watch, though considered it multiple times. The countdown bezel doesn't work for me so much on this watch which is a personal thing - I do take my LHD diving but I'm not gonna lie I always forget to set the bezel (I have a dive computer on the other wrist so it's ok), I do use it for lots of other things though. The slimmer profile looks pretty cool though I am 6"4 so the Pelagos size is fine for me. I have the blue time & tide doxa 600T so my blue sporty fix is ticked off with that! This looks great though. I love the snowflake style so muchhhhh

    I agree that the FXD is a handsome and rugged watch. Might not be on my list but a great watch with a very cool military connection. I enjoyed the bit where you were trying to explain the tethered divers -- I'm right there with you haha

      They used to be be monobrand store only (White city Westfield in London) but now any Watches Of Switzerland should be able to take delivery. Though it may be worth possibly shelling out a teeny bit more and getting one with a 2021 caseback if that OG one is something Papi would want

    I really like this, but I do wish it had that great Pelagos bracelet. I know that won't work with the fixed lugs, but I wish Tudor would release a 200m version with regular spring bars and the bracelet. I love the markets all around the bezel as well as the slightly less bright shade of blue too.

    • @BrittPearceWatches
      @BrittPearceWatches  Před 2 lety +4

      It does feel like such a shame to have no bracelet option at all! I think for me, personally, I wouldn’t mind so much if I had it in my collection tho! I’d have my BB58 for my bracelet watch, and the FXD as my strap. (…. She says as if she could efforts afford an FXD)

    • @RedwoodAggie
      @RedwoodAggie Před 2 lety +2

      @@BrittPearceWatches Yeah, if I also had a very nice luxury diver on a bracelet already, I might feel differently. The Pelagos is on my list for a big (to me) purchase later this year, but I currently don't have any divers nicer than my Seiko King Turtle. I have some nicer non-divers, but still not quite at that level.
