About me: I run an online Etsy shop where I sell mostly laser cut goods and files. At first, my business was mainly crochet and knitwear, but I recently pivoted to strictly laser cutting. I really like the infinite possibilities laser cutting brings, and also enjoy coming up with my own unique designs. 😊 Intro Song: I have the rights under a license to use the following song in my intro - Endless Bliss - Sounds Like Sandler. Can you do a video on how you clean your machine as well as the materials you use and buy?
Hi Megan! Yes! I was planning on doing that very soon. Thanks for asking.
I’m really thinking about buying one soon
If you do, feel free to let me know if you have any questions when you start using it.
I'm also looking into purchasing one. I have a lot of SVG files saved for when I get one. Thanks for all the info. Maybe if you did a little series from start to finish. How to start, the program and cutting. Just a thought.
Thank you for the comment! That’s a great topic and I will definitely be doing a video on that soon. 😊 Best of luck to you.
Thank you for the referral code.
Absolutely! Happy to help in any way. Thanks for using it!
Any concerns with the masking tape that you referred as it is not recommended with laser cutters, according to amazon,
I did notice that on Amazon. The company that sells this product says they don’t recommend it because there is a chance it can cause a fire. I had one instance where I had an issue with a small contained fire but there were other factors involved (the outside temp was below 20 degrees and that caused my transfer paper to peel away from my material since I was venting out the window and letting a lot of cold air in before I cut). So, other than that one time, I’ve never had any issues with it.
Hi Catherine...I saw in your link products that you have safety glasses listed. I'm just starting out with the Glowforge Basic and thought the glass on the Glowforge was enough protection...but after seeing this...now I'm wondering. Eeek! Do you wear your safety glasses when you are using the Glowforge? Please let me know your thoughts on this. Ok? Also, I don't see a link for the 3M tape that you use...can you give me a link to it? Thanks! Love your channel, Catherine!!!
Thank you so much!! Yes, I do wear safety glasses while the machine is running if I’m looking at it. I would recommend it to be on the safe side. Here’s a link to the 3M that I tried out (it worked well).

@@85thandPine Thank you, Catherine!!!
Wait a minute in your intro how did you get it all peeled in one shot?
I started to peel it off camera first to get it going, then it made it quicker for the video 😊
Hello! Can you do a video of where you buy your wood?!
Hi Kelci! Thanks for asking. I’m actually working on that video right now and will plan to have it up soon! 😊
@@85thandPine thank you! My glowforge will be here in April, so trying to soak in all the knowledge I can! Love your videos!
@@kelcihollis3991 Awesome! Thanks so much!
Hi Catherine! I have a question, if I purchase files on Etsy, am I good to use the file cut it and then sell the products I created? I’m just worried because I see some people say the file has to be for commercial use. Pls help.
Hi! The finished products you create from my files can be sold however you like. I don’t have restrictions on that. My only restriction is that you cannot resell the digital file. Everyone is a little bit different so it usually says in the description on what you can use it for, personal or commercial.
@@85thandPine thank you! I am so nervous and anxious to start, I am debating if I should start thru Etsy or just go with my own website. I need to hustle because I left my job recently so I can start my own business. But I am torn, since I’m just starting out.
@@sincerelytatum5376 no problem! And if I were you, I would personally start on Etsy. Only because it’s very straightforward and they are a major marketplace so you already have an upper hand in getting random customers, plus you can pay for extra advertising if you want. They do take a portion of the sales but I think it’s still worth it to start. I’m trying to make my own website now and it’s a little bit of a headache, just running into a couple issues. But I will eventually get it up and running!
Which Glowforge did you purchase?
I purchased the basic model. I do plan to get the Pro in the future since it has the pass through slot 😊
Does the GlowForge cause the table become hot? Thanks.
Hi Cindy, good question. I have not noticed any heat on my table. I run my machine for multiple hours sometimes (off and on) and never noticed that issue.
@@85thandPine THANKS.
The link is not working for me. Is there a specific way to do it?
Hi! Thanks for letting me know. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience, I am in contact with Glowforge to get it resolved. -Catherine
Sorry about that. It should be working now. Can you try again and let me know? It should take a few seconds to pop up once you open the link.
It’s working! Thank you so much.
@@85thandPine I just used it and it showed it worked! I hope it went through for you too! Not sure if it takes some time to show.
@@KayJays thank you SO much! Yes, I see that it went though. I truly appreciate it! Let me know if you ever have any questions once you start using it 😊
I followed the link for the masking tape and it said not to use with laser cutter. So is this the one you use?
PAPER TRANSFER TAPE: Our PAPER transfer tape is a versatile MEDIUM-HIGH TACK tape for applying craft and sign vinyl to applicable surfaces. NOT FOR USE WITH HEAT TRANSFER VINYL OR ANY LASER CUTTERS, ENGRAVERS or LASER DEVICES
Yes, that is the tape I use. I contacted the company before using it and they said they don’t recommend it because of causing possible fires. I’ve also spoken to the supplier I use for my wood materials (Smokey Hill Designs) and they said that’s the tape they usually recommend, plus they know most of their customers use this tape as well. I haven’t had issues with it so that’s why I still use that tape. :)
Thank you. I will purchase some. I’ve watched many videos and it appears many users don’t use the masking tape. I will because I don’t like the burned look. I just received mine and I’m going to setup it up today and tomorrow. Thanks again for the helpful information.
@@roghalls You’re welcome! I also don’t like the burnt look. I’ve heard you can get off if you try wiping the material with rubbing alcohol and a cloth, but haven’t tried that. I use to sand my wood materials after getting burnt marks but that took too much time vs just using the tape. Good luck to you and enjoy!
