Today I thought I'd take you guys into my process of rapid prototyping the Jigsaw Puzzle Coffee Table with the Glowforge Pro! I launched it on Kickstarter of July 2020 and raised $102,894. Using the 3D laser CNC machine, I was able to come up with the idea and launch the product by building my own product prototype for the campaign. Check out my 5 tips for rapid prototyping your own product today!

I took a different approach to this video to hopefully give a little bit of insight into my thought process behind prototyping and launching a product. Let me know if you guys enjoyed it and if you'd like to see more video like it on the channel. Any particular topics you like me to sit down and explain?!
dude i love this. this is definitely gonna help some people and it was very entertaining to watch even for someone who isn’t going to launch a kickstarter :)
This was cool
We Want More More More Like This
OF COURSE DUDE!!! This content has a ton of value for all of us!!!
Bro plz like my comment and even you comment.I am from India🇮🇳🇮🇳
I’d love to see more videos on prototyping, successes, fails, and everything in between. You are a true inspiration and I’d love to learn more!
I agree!! Great idea
Holy heck yes! that is badass!!! Huge congrats on that kickstarter project!
I love you jessy
Thanks 🤘🏻✌🏻🤟🏻
Jigsaw coffee table, so badass! 😒
Congrats brother!! turning a hobby into a business is everyone’s dream,
It’s pretty amazing I get to literally make anything that comes to my brain for a living
@@UnnecessaryInventions what a about a nutsack pouch 👝 a sack for your sack? Sorry I’m outta here 🏃🏼🏃🏼🏃🏼
Loved the concept and explanation in this video. Keep up the great work bud!
Congratulations. This is awesome and I'm glad I've had the opportunity to see all your inventions from reddit/insta and youtube. Keep it up, and have plenty of fun!
love seeing you try out some different topics on the channel. definitely makes me want to start working on a new project
YES! We Want MORE Of this
Love all your videos and enjoy this behind the scenes video. Keep up the great work man!
Yes please! I would love to see more of this. Great idea by the way !
First time watching one of your videos and I really enjoyed you educating us on the whole process - more videos like this please! One 2 second video spot where you fed a large sheet of plywood through the glow forge taught me what was possible with that machine that I never realized. I went right to the site and started my research. Great job. You speak extremely well and do awesome editing.
Not gonna lie, some of your “unnecessary” products look so good and I want them.
I'd love to see more stuff like this, I'm always interested in makers' workflows
Thanks for sharing your thought process Matt!
Man this is really inspiring.. I’m a mechanical engineer who build oil and gas tools. I do have several patents but I never thought there is an audience who enjoy watching the cool inventions. I think I’m gonna get me a 3D printer start creating new designs. Once again thanks and I love your cool inventors
Are you ever afraid of someone ripping off your ideas in any groups you post to?
I think that is definitely one thing that hold people back but the odd of someone actually taking the time to develop someone else's idea is very slim - in that manner.
I'd love to see more videos like this. Love it
♥️
Definitely want to see more of this!
Cool stuff dude, always like seeing the tools of a maker 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I love how you own that cease and desist letter like it's an award. 😂
I love the jigsaw puzzle coffee table and the croc gloves.. so much fun. You are extremely creative.
More of this!!!!! Awesome content!!!!!
Great video! Always inspiring to see the experimentation and process behind the scenes. Would love to get my hands on a Glowforge, if only they shipped internationally!
Really insightful for this new inventor. Thank you!
Love your content, keep up the great work 👍
Awesome Dude!! Thanks for sharing your ideas and approach!! Love it!! 🥰🥰🥰
I’m grateful for all these unnecessary inventions. But actually for celebrating with my family because in this point and time they are the most important
So far this is the best invention :-)
I love it
I’m grateful for your unnecessary inventions
Great video! A lot of really valuable info!
Machine looks cool, I'm definitely gunna look into it, More videos in this style would be really helpful. Maybe go into comparing cnc laser cutting vs 3d printing and how you pick what will work,
That's easy! CNC for easy parts and 3d for complex intricate parts
I love this video so much, smart guy !
Just found your channel. WOW! Fantastic! Can't wait to see the next one.
This video was really good you should make more vids like this
Thanks!!
Please continue making these videos!
this „little bit different video“ made me subscribe :D
Biggest thing for me is when these big CZcamsrs show how to launch products like this but their popularity makes it a very different scenario than if anyone else wanted to do something like this themselves
Jesus is coming back , get your life in order , repent before it's too late love each other For God is love . read your bible and pray.,
That was amazing. I love these vids
Great ideas for the starting inventor!!!! You need to know what design/prototyping tools to use and where to go for manufacturing your idea.... Do more vids for the beginning inventors out here! :-) Thanks!!! These vids are great motivators!!! Mike in LA, Calif
Please do more videos like this 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Please do more like this.
Amazing product and thanks for the discount code 👍👏👏👏
You are my new mentor ❤ Subscribed 👌
You should totally make the frame under the pieces have cup holders so that you can remove the puzzle pieces and place a drink in it’s place!
What an insightful video, thanks for sharing. Earned a sub.
This is amazing🔥. The inspiration I get from you has helped me learn Solidworks, thank you !
What is solid works?
it's like the kid from Home Alone got his own youtube channel.
Your a genius thanks for the encouragement
It’d be cool if you could put an image on each side of the puzzle pieces so once the table’s complete you get one big picture. You can then flip over the puzzle pieces and make a new image for the coffee table.
Hey! I’m thinking about doing a Kickstarter and am at the ground floor. I’d love to know more about the experience in terms of preparation and strategy!
I do want to see more of these types of videos.
Cool good to know
Great video!!!! Yes yes 3d printer video!!
Damn I remember when yout had barely half the subs lol you're gonna get to a million by this time next year!!
I would love to learn more about the Kickstarter campaign (and your outside ads mostly)
Mate, I am looking at the Glowforge exactly to do this. Some questions
1. I saw your image of the table prototyping, so obviously the table is much much bigger than the Glowforge, so how did you get all the pieces made on that one single piece of wood?
2. Where do you source the wood and other things?
3. Where or how did you design the actual bottom of the table, legs and underlying grid?
4. Did you print the underlying grid too?
5. what is the purpose of the intake slot on the printer? do I need the pro or is the plus enough?
6. I am assuming you didnt just get huge amounts of wood and run them through the printer?
Thank you!
It's an awesome looking table.
Can you make a series of videos of this entire process going into more detail with all problems you ran into, each video being one step? Oh and preferably using a 3d printer? That would be gold.
Thanks for the suggestion! I think of the best way I could package all the information for you guys
Nice video! 😊 The world needs more creators
6:51 would be very nice to see how u go from the 3D Design to the prototyping/3D printing
Great video!
inspiring thank you.
CZcams just recommended me your channel and its preety cool - I subbed :)
I was wondering if you could answer a question that is sort of related to the table. I don't have a glowforge, but I do have a 100w Chinese laser cutter/engraver and I have been wanting to cut puzzle pieces for a while. What sort of tolerance would you suggest for a good fit?
Thanks,
Loved the video. Actual useful products may deserve a second channel
Fantastic video.
Honestly this is really good for parents because their kids can create the puzzle and have something to do lol
Inspirational thanks for the motivation 🙏 I got a k40 gonna climb up the ladder of engraving first mile stone purchase of laser engraving machine..
thanks for the $500 off, getting the pro today!
Really cool table :-) How do you make sure that a company or someone else doesn't take your idea and start manufacturing it themselves? Do you make a patent on your design?
I like this!
Great content what 3 d printing do you use.. ty
Dang why didn’t I think of that!!!! That is a great idea. How did you search for a manufacturer on alibaba? How do you know who to trust?
i seriously wish i had a glowforge.. this would make me and several others have a good life..
That’s fantastic! You should sell the digital file to the GF users community, they/I would definitely buy it! And another stream of revenue!!
Hi Matt, I love your coffee table. I am really interested in getting a Glowforge Pro myself. Do you know if I can apply your discount and still pay for it through Affirm on a monthly basis
Title: “How I made 100k worth the glowforge”
First sentence: “I raised 100k on Kickstarter”
Not the same.
Took the words right ou of my mouth(mind). He generated 100k in preorder sales. He did not make 100k. In fact most kickstarter campaigns do not make money. They aren't really there to make money. They are just there to test demand.
Great job, see, sometimes a ridiculous sounding idea can actually be a good idea.
Btw, how did you make that laptop your using? lol
Definitely like how there's a different approach in this channel. Really love to konw how your brain works lol
I try to make each video different from the last!
thanks for sharing the process. what did you do to find the right manufacturer on alibaba?
Very cool seeing how you prototype and manufacture! Big fan, and fellow Vermonter/design engineer/creator! Keep killing it!
Can you put a link for the website that generated the puzzle?
I liked this video. New sub
How much waight is the table capable to hold?
Never heard of the puzzle desk, But do you mind if I try my hand at making and selling my own version? I am planning to hand some cash to a cnc manufacturer and this gives me an idea for something a little smaller that I can use to play around and both learn software and tweak feeds and stuff..?
Very good and also ecological invention!
Keep creating
Every day all day. Lol but literally...
You should have the table top be offered with a custom photo puzzle :)
Well prototyping seems easy when you have the 3d printers and the Glowforge right there ^^.
For anyone who is ACTUALLY going to commercially use a laser cutter, I wouldn’t go for the glow forge, from what I have seen, it fails extremely easily.
What’s the alternative? I really want one
Cab you send me more information on how you chose the best manufacturer
You should do some tutorial style videos for 3d modeling and introductions into 3d printing for complete noobs. I love your personality and I would love to see that type of video from you if even in a second channel or something
Cool. I'd have to figure out if I was be able to teach my 3d CAD methods haha! I just learned from CZcams so I think my methods are might sometimes not be the best. I hack away until I get the design I want.
@@UnnecessaryInventions I'd love to learn from someone who is self taught. Someone who was once in the place I am now, just wanting to learn without all the technical jargons. If you ever decide to make anything like these I'll be sure to watch them! Keep up the unnecessarily good content!
Please more Behind the Scenes videos
People say it’s hard to be first but it’s harder to be last
.
You don’t need to be the first, you just need to be the best.
What wood is in the final product
That’s awesome, also off topic, but is that a fifine microphone?
It is indeed.
@Unnecessaryinventions what are the dimensions!?!?! I neeed this!!
What does the glow forge tast like
Hi Matt! I need a mentor and help! Can you or would you be willing to help me get started? Please! What masking tape do you use and do I need to use it with all materials??
This fools finna be a professional table maker
What cad program are you using?
Im just going to sit here and print and engrave cats all day.
