Maybe you should have tried pykrete for the wheels, check the wikipedia
2szymi i did a test with pykrete but they looked really bad and not like ice so even though its stronger the look was wrong.

when they start to melt, you're gonna lose pretty much all traction, assuming they don't crack from the temperature differences between the inner and outer wheel.

Freezing ice like that is pretty much a beginners mistake.
If you keep agitating that ice while it freezes becomes a actual solid block of ice with no cracks and gas bubbles.
I think the ice sculpting pros use flowing water (aquarium pump) and freeze the water through a temperature gradient from the bottom. (Building the ice from the bottom to the top allowing out-gassing to the top)
I think vibrating the block while it freezes will also help to release the bubbles. But the problem of freezing from the top remains. Perhaps just put a sheet of Styrofoam on the top and perhaps the sides so that the temperature gradient develops from the bottom to the top.
This all sounds great but i had to go and freeze these in canada with a freezer that i knew nothing about so had to keep it simple. but maybe worth the experiment

Jill Feyaerts He wanted to do something different, I guess. Still, I have to agree with you. What's the point? If it's anything above freezing, there's a very good chance the wheels will melt. If it's ridden over rough terrain, the wheels may crack and break. You can't ride uphill, it's difficult to go downhill, heck, it's difficult to go anywhere. The only good thing I can think of is he probably doesn't have much to worry about someone riding off with his bike (why would anyone want it)?

WW2 England built a boat out of frozen water mixed with saw dust it took forever to melt and was even impervious to torpedo strikes. History....Learn from it.

Re watching this, I feel like your wheel lathe is almost cooler than the wheels. The only alteration that would make it flawless would be a way to use one knob for symmetrical adjustment, and that isn't even necessary for function.

Next time, mix in some sawdust with it, then freeze. The rusulting material is called, "Piecrete" and is stronger than regular ice, and melts more slowly as well.
