Both are phrases which, incidentally, were used by the Nazis. One alone might not be a coincidence but I think both back-to-back send a different message.
@@undefinedhuman7404 Funny, people haven't been calling me a Nazi on a regular basis regardless of what I do. I wonder what it is you're saying that makes people say that about you.
Most sexually attractive women in the film are the Harkonnen women. Something about those plastic overalls… 😳 Then some of the Bene Gesserit (but attractive in a different non-sexual way - Mommy Atreides and Charlotte Rampling are extremely compelling to me). Irulan and Margo bore me.
0:38 the way the crowd moves is so creepy and unnerving, it makes you think they are almost forced to do this. It kind of reminds how in North Korea whenever the dictator dies they all have to cry as hard as they can, or else. On Giedi Prime, they have to go along with the chants and move like that, or else.
I get what you mean. The Harkonnen’s aesthetic, cruelness and conformity makes me think of a society that exists if Nazi Germany won the war. Harkonnens look the same, as if they achieved a “master race”.
In the books i am pretty sure it is said they love Their house cuz they dragged their planet in to wealth and power even if it was a cruel method. as the other guy said similar to the Nazis, they were insane but the germans accepted them cuz they gave Germany “rebirth”. The ends justify the means
When this scene happened in the book, the population was forced to attend the arena fight, but by the end of it they’re rushing the arena to lift Feyde up on their shoulders and parading him around like a hero. The Baron even remarks that he could walk around unshielded in the poorest districts of Harko and people would happily give him their last bit of food just to have him come into their homes
I doubt they’re forcing them to dance, seeing how the harkonen soldiers acted in the last movie I’m pretty sure the entire planet is just as sick as the harkonens themselves
That was phenomenal. It shows me that the Bene Gesserit robes aren't actually black but a dark color. And since the black sun sucks all the color out of anything, the robes turning white was a great visual
It's because Geidi Prime orbits a K-Type Brown dwarf in a trinary star system. The light they get is high in infrared, so that's why when in the dark hallways you can still see everyone still has pigment (even the Harpies skin tone), but when walking into the sunlight they get bathed in infrared light, changing the visible color tone.
@@jaywhite15_ALyup i have been saying something similar all though not to your precision. Also i read that one guy said "no auch stars exist" but a simple google search revealed otherwise because until recently, those stars were "invisible" to us.
I am Peruvian, I don't know if it was necessary to mention that, but I must say that I have read all the comments from every English speaker who saw this scene and I agree with each of them, I consider the Harkonen planet one of the worst places to live, manages to convey a hostile and inhuman atmosphere in every moment of the arena, both the citizens who are excited to see and the Atreid prisoners fight for their lives even being unjustly drugged, as well as the high nobility which is already saying a lot with Vladimir, really This planet is horrible.
I totally agree with you. Nothing about this planet looks pleasant. Even later when Margot goes into her guest bedroom there is absolutely nothing inviting or hospitable about it.
Many other scifi films have similar scenes of a gladiator arena (Star Wars - Attack of the Clones, for example), so the concept isn't new, but none can reach DUNE's level of AWESOMENESS. It's the immersive cinematography and how it takes its time to show every detail and let you live and breath this planet and its ambience. Reminds me of old classic films like Alien. You actually feel like you are there.
I remember sitting in the theater at this point and thinking that I would need a day off after this movie. It was such an overload of visual stimulation. One of the best movie theater experiences ever.
This Planet is truly like what a part of Humanity could look like in 20k years. Humanity evolves in such a radical way they no longer resemble their ancestors.
According to astronomers at Ohio State University, young stars can apparently have as much as 80% of their surface covered with sun spots, hence why most of its circular silhouette is visible. So, not only do Harkonnen's have a mostly infrared-emitting star but, one that's only shinning at a fraction of its potential. Is it any wonder they depend on industry and synthetic food? What world could bear an adequate agrarian sector sufficient to feed its populace with such an atramentous sun? Good world-building 👍
Is the infrared sun thing mentioned in the books? I thought the infrared color scheme was just a stylistic way of conveying this scene to the audience and not how it's supposed to actually look like in-universe.
@@smuggymcsmugface2142 Black sun isn’t mentioned in the books, only that Giedi Prime doesn’t have a lot of photo synthesis. Black sun was movie made change, but cool one af in that matter.
The design is so well thought out. I think its no coincidence that the shape of the tower where the baron hovers is essentially the shape of the bene gesserit clothes in their robes and veil. And when the camera zooms in on it, it cuts back to lea seydous character.
This is the "Sardaukar throat singing" of the second movie. One of those super unique scenes that spawn their own fanbase. Villeneuve is taking Herbert's work to another level.
Another interesting subversion is that despite having the most brutal, violent and primal culture out of all the Great Houses, the Harkonnen are also the richest and probably have the most technologically advanced military (to be fair, the Ix are more advanced but are far smaller).

@@JumboMceal I mean it would look like that if we were able to see in infrared, but yeah stars like that don't exist irl. that's why it's science fiction, not science fact.
@@jaywhite15_AL yeah, that's what I'm saying...... nothing looks like that irl. There no such stars which your first hinted at.......
I like how they say something like "home" instead of house. It shows that even with how alien the language sounds there is still some familiarity hidden in it.
It was one of the more intense scenes I've ever experienced in theaters, pure adrenaline!
Under our glorious black sun a spectacle of blood and honor.
Both are phrases which, incidentally, were used by the Nazis. One alone might not be a coincidence but I think both back-to-back send a different message.
One of these days I hope to work this sentence into a casual conversation.
@@digitalorca I advise against that. People will very likely think you're a Nazi, or something adjacent to a Nazi.

The appearance of both Vladimir Harkonnen and the Sisters of the Bene Gesserit from black to white is just mesmerizing🤩
superb job by the wardrobe department
Margo is such a baddie bruh... I don't blame feyd for folding.
She’s the most attractive woman in the film imo, more so than Irulan even
lea seydoux
@@ndhickson3599 Irulan is for guys who like tough-ish girls. But Margo can get it any day any time.
Most sexually attractive women in the film are the Harkonnen women. Something about those plastic overalls… 😳
Then some of the Bene Gesserit (but attractive in a different non-sexual way - Mommy Atreides and Charlotte Rampling are extremely compelling to me).
Irulan and Margo bore me.
@@user-jk5um1om8l their faces are kinda cute but not very sexy. Lady Jessica is very hot however
0:38 the way the crowd moves is so creepy and unnerving, it makes you think they are almost forced to do this.
Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if their entire culture and society likes this type of shit
At this point, Geidi prime needs it's own prequel or spin off or something. This scene is simply phenomenal!!!!!
That moment when you notice that the black robes from the Bene gesserit turn white
Everyone killed it. Theyre not actors acting, theyre chatacters being. Fully sunk in and committed to the role. Its beautiful.
"A long way to come to watch our prospect- *BILOOP*"
Absolute favorite part of the entire movie
I am Peruvian, I don't know if it was necessary to mention that, but I must say that I have read all the comments from every English speaker who saw this scene and I agree with each of them, I consider the Harkonen planet one of the worst places to live, manages to convey a hostile and inhuman atmosphere in every moment of the arena, both the citizens who are excited to see and the Atreid prisoners fight for their lives even being unjustly drugged, as well as the high nobility which is already saying a lot with Vladimir, really This planet is horrible.
No me Harkonnen forever
why dont you vote for fujimori then
I totally agree with you. Nothing about this planet looks pleasant. Even later when Margot goes into her guest bedroom there is absolutely nothing inviting or hospitable about it.
Peruvian here too 🥳
Darkness also has its beauty, its glory, its epic.No todo mundo es como peru o en america latina sol, risas, bailar,en otros países no nos gusta eso
This scene in IMAX was complete bonkers. This chant is such an earwig. And the stadium announcer is superb ❤❤❤
Imagine being a barber on Giedi Prime...
Every day someone comes to you to make them bald
Their water is filthy. Maybe they all lost hair after chemotherapy.
This Planet is truly like what a part of Humanity could look like in 20k years. Humanity evolves in such a radical way they no longer resemble their ancestors.
I mean, there are plenty of oddly pale bald people today. You don't need 20,000 years of separation for people to begin to diverge in appearance.
@@keyabrade1861 Pretty sure he was talking about the culture.
@@keyabrade1861 Bruh, these people don't even have eyebrows anymore. Bald people still have eyesbrow.
Meanwhile after seeing this in South Korea, Japan and China, netizens search for the term " Where to buy Harkonnen skin bleaching products " .
One of the best scenes in any movie I've ever seen, seeing it for the first time in theaters was an unforgettable experience
Согласен, и на первом фильме была сцена с Sardaukar
am I the only who absolutely obsessed with the Harkonnen language??? I need to learn it immediately
The design is so well thought out. I think its no coincidence that the shape of the tower where the baron hovers is essentially the shape of the bene gesserit clothes in their robes and veil. And when the camera zooms in on it, it cuts back to lea seydous character.
The most beautiful and most disturbing depiction of a dystopian society that I have ever seen.
Sheev Palpatine: all of you are hired
Palpatine's evil isn't even close to the level of the Baron's, but he is a better schemer.
@@adaeptzulander2928you don’t know how evil palpatine is

It crazy how they’re all humans they’ve just adapted to different planets and environments over thousands of years
But the harks didn’t want anything to resemble like human past.
I passed out watching this in IMAX.
😂😂😂
This is the "Sardaukar throat singing" of the second movie. One of those super unique scenes that spawn their own fanbase. Villeneuve is taking Herbert's work to another level.
Another interesting subversion is that despite having the most brutal, violent and primal culture out of all the Great Houses, the Harkonnen are also the richest and probably have the most technologically advanced military (to be fair, the Ix are more advanced but are far smaller).
Geidi Prime feels like a dystopian nightmare so unlike the other home worlds.
Harkonnen chanting feels like black speech of Mordor in a clearer war
I love that the Black & White was more than just an artistic choice...it was given a logical canon reasoning.
In theatre the arena duel gave me chills . Felt like i was in the arena . And geidi prime in general is horror in a sci fi way
My father was a DUNE FANATIC and I know he would have loved this!!!!!
