Though recent researches have show Areca nut to be mildly carcinogenic (cancer causing) It has been for ages been grown and consumed not only in the Northeast of India, but the whole of Southeast Asia and South Asia.

The sounds of the forest are to die for. Really miss it.
I'm from Nepal and my mom's family is from Assam, my grandmother eats a lot of paan and tamul and so did my grandpa, i too call the raw nuts Tamul and i eat them occasionally by putting them in a fridge, it tastes good chilled, and in Nepal we mainly call it Sualpari and people from the flatlands like myself are absolutely addicted
Ha ha :) It is addictive .. once I am back home .. I get my tooth stained red.
Dried Single arecanut lasts me for a day. I used it as digine.

@@EatYourKappa you r also beautiful 😁
Hi i bought its cut pieces to eat but its very hard. Do we have to soak it??
Instead of soaking you might want to try and cut into thinner strips.
I dont know about other parts of NE..but there is one more traditional ingredient that assamese people use with areca nut (Tamul).. this is "mola taankhu"( tobacco leaves processed with jaggery and tamarind)..this is a black sticky mixture which further enhances the flavours of Tamul.
Interesting. I wonder if the regional consumption of tobacco with the nut is the real culprit for cancer associated with the nut, since she claims it doesn't seem to be a problem in her village. Of course it could just be that people in her village do get cancer, but they just don't associate the illness with the nut.
@@johnjones_1501 Yes ofcourse ...if you go by the records, northeast India has the second highest cases of oral cancer all over India. This is mostly because of the fact that, people from every part of the northeast have a habbit of chewing acne nut (mostly with some form of tobacco)
Remembered my grandfather....he always chews this 24/7....😋😘😘
Where are you from ?

there has been some misconception as areca nuts doesn't cause cancer but tobacco does as many people are addicted to tobacco which is main ingredient to make pan with areca nuts..
I have read the science areca is a much stronger cause of cancer than tobacco even when there is no tobacco added. Also in some people who have used it heavy for a very long time it stiffens the inside of the mouth these are the people who have a high chance of cancer.
I wonder if asian culture has less risk than europeans because asians have used areca for three thousand years? I have seen a european develop a health problem from areca quite quickly.
Kindly Please upload a video regarding taro leaves with pork.....
Its difficult to cut with knife
. Here in mizoram we dont used knife.
OMG.. so much similarity with our language.. we call it Gwai in Dimasa..
I guess Garos and Dimasa people have a shared heritage, that's why so much similarity.
Na•ade gue cha•na krajade, silanan😀
My grandmother eats daily. But i take once or twice in a year 😁😁
I eat it whenever I am at my village. But with a guilty feeling that it might damage my teeth. :D
Gasua keep moving forward
Hey thank you for your support :)
Hello
You guys swallow the juice, we spit it and paint everything red! hahaha
We say tamul and pan . I like your video .
People say vampires come Romania, obviously they haven't been to the northeast of india, i guarantee you everyone's got a red blood sucking mouth hahahahaha. Oh my goodness Nambi i was biting my nails watching you handle that knife, don't your grandparents ever show you how to peel and split that kwai. Thank goodness you did not cut yourself!! And also you will find that most khasi old people used a metal tube grinder(Khylit kwai) with a sharp prodder to grind their kwai in it. Splendid clips indeed and bravo on details too!!
Vampires :D lol I don't quite often use the Khasi knife to peel kwai.. My dad or cousins do it for me as I am not really good at it, as seen in the video .. he he .. Oh yeah forgot about the metal tube grinder.. that's a must have for the oldies. As always, thank you for your kind comments. I will be away from network, technology and civilization for about a month, my channel would be in pilot mode for a while. Please leave your comments. I will come back and respond to them.
im in love
Y So much Hardworking
In my side we put into machine
It's Cut 500 kg per hour
that must be professing and then selling right. People like it fresh here in Northeastern region.
@@EatYourKappa how much price in your Area per kg
You are initiated..
😊
we called gua in our language but personally don't like to eat the raw one, i like the dry one. whenever i go home i love to eat fermented one with beetle leaf, its smelly but you will feel awesome while eating.
Absolutely I agree :) As always, thank you for your kind comments. I will be away from network, technology and civilization for about a month, my channel would be in pilot mode for a while. Please leave your comments. I will come back and respond to them.
Same here in the cordillera( igorots)
I really hope you respond to my other comment. Many people say we need slated lime or something. Educate us please!
also it doesn't get you high. the best time to use it is when you're feeling sluggish after a big meal or tired after a long day of exercise. it'll make you feel re-energized. but if you already have energy you'll just feel a bit light headed I guess. results may very.
Anyway if you're trying to get high on stimulants go to a bus stop and buy crack. because areca is honestly about as mild as a cup of coffee.
Nice video , we called it In our language "Supary".
Ah yes! In most of mainland India it's called Supary right?
they call gua too
i love this/ there is not possible to see it growing in USA here
Eshfx beatboxer it can be grow in tropical climate area like in florida
The USA is not going to grow such an addictive plant. We'll keep our cigarettes.
You can buy on ebay
Waw, tumul paan I love it with slight mukbilas....
betelnut India?
Yes, Betelnut in Northeastern India.
your smile is cute😍😍
Eeee .. thank you:)
since when does lime heat your body up? it will not keep you warm in cold climates
Try it 😂 it burns your mouth.
👌👍👍👍
It's a commercial crop in Karnataka too.
aio gue chana sikgatda de online gitda order kaa na nang gen speed post office do mittela
Widely consume on the island of New Guinea.
That thing is called KWA in Manipuri . So I guess there are some similarities between khasi and manipuri language
Yes absolutely there might be, thousands of years of co-existence. :)
Though the general used term for areca nut in Assamese is Tamul, but there is a lesser used term gau. The word gau and its other phonetical variants are still used among Bodo-Kachari group of languages. Actually the Guwahati's name has been derived from two words Gau and haat(meaning market). So etymology simply means Areca nut market.
@N RK in khasi, we say 'hat' for market but we rarely use it alone. We say 'ïew' or 'ka ïew ka hat'
It's Meghalaya or manipur? I am from Assam , I love areca nuts ..😊
Garohill
In Philippines we called it nga-nga
I used to have it 24/7 literally, so addicted that all my tooth became black in colour
Can't help it .. I agree it's very addictive. Whenever I go back home, I come with tooth slightly red in colour.
It's called goi in Boro. Raw with betel leaf and lime is best.
Sounds very similar to what we call in Garo :) Oh I avoid raw as it's too strong for me .. head starts spinning
Boro and Garo are sister languages with many common root words and grammar. Kwai from Khasi hills in Khasi style is best however.☺
Who else used to chew this in school..
Not me!😂😂 But now I do😂😂
Offering tamul is not practised in most of the NE states except Meghalaya and Assam.
Its called Qwak in manipur
Small piece of advice, I know it is easier to cut towards yourself, but you should always cut away from your body, so that if the knife slips, you don't cut yourself. Especially when you are cutting with a lot of resistance, because you could potentially cut yourself pretty badly.
You make crave for it☹️☹️☹️
Yaay :) I am in Chennai and have no access to the fresh ones .. I am having the craving too.
Good, we should introduce this nuts world wide. We konyak tribe of Nagaland are the highest consumer of this nuts called SALI.
Most Southeast Asians consume it down to Papua New Guinea and to the Pacific Islanders. i even saw some tribes on youtube in Africa chewing these nuts.
Goi in Boro! Similar with Garo!
Yup right, we Garo called it gui.
I am kerala
kwai 😍😍😍
In Bengal people add fennel seeds and maybe some cardamom.
That's interesting ... Here people add a small piece of ginger.
Ratanan bilongen nengchakata ... Hahaha
Here in cordillera Philippines we do not swallow it.. we only chew it like a bubble gum 😄 and spit it...
only cowards spit. winners swallow. Allahu Ackbar from Pakistan!
We call it Dakhor.
You are so prty i love you
Chewing araca nuts, leaves and lime protect your teeth from cavities
Nang kusikde vampire ni kusik dakgnok gitchak gitchak hehe
And it's called khoi by my language
we calld it tamul
Oh yeah. We stay in areas bordering Assam, people invariably use both the term Gue and Tamul in our region.
eat with coconut and ,ginger you will taste it more and feel it😂😂😂
Oh yeah .. I have tried it with ginger, it definitely adds flavor to it. I will try with coconut next time when I am home :)
