thank you for not accusing her of faking tourette’s, and for being respectful of her neurological conditions. i have tourette’s and it can be very difficult and frustrating to be accused of faking. everyone’s tourette’s is different and it’s not okay to tell anyone they don’t have it, even if you wholeheartedly believe they don’t. this is why james is a fuckin legend.

Yea the same thing happened with Jamila Jamile and her eds/use of mobility aids. My mom has eds and with hers it’s some occasional joint pain, a few sprained ankles, and gi issues. For me, I can’t walk because all of my joints are permanently dislocated of sublexed.
If someone doesn’t have an illness they need haze zero right to question that diagnosis unless there is 100%, undeniable proof otherwise. And that’s only applicable in cases where that can be proven like cancer.
I don't know much about her and I don't know whether she is faking or not. I do know how difficult tourettes is to live with. People stare at you, avoid you, make light of the situation, etc. I got lucky when I married my husband. He doesn't notice my tourettes, he looks past it. He really builds my confidence when out in public. Its a tough disorder to live with and whether or not she has it, maybe she needs to take some time off the internet, surround herself with people who build her up, and then come back. It actually helps to have someone beside you who can be there to get you through that awkwardness and nervousness. I have some pretty severe tourettes, but its even worse when I get scared or anxious, so having my husband there to kind of push me forward and hold my hand is better than any of the meds I tried.

I’m latina and I just don’t relate to her content and think it makes Hispanics look stupid, hyper sexualized and stereotypical. It’s okay to make fun of your own community and make jokes surrounding it for your own people , but when that’s all you do, it gets old and annoying along with making us look like idiots to other people that she is also targeting.

Oddly enough, it was always after Lele had access to her content. After it happened a few times, Amanda confronted Lele and she admitted it, trying to laugh it off with the classic "I'm Latina 🤪"
She took Amanda’s fame and her success and deleted everything she had worked on herself. doing this was very selfish of her and I have lost all respect, Lele Pons only cares about her following count and how famous she is

Actually, in "the internet hates me" episode, she actually leads up to how much hate she gets later on, so either you didn't watch the whole thing or you just refused to listen.
She is still doing this for publicity so no wonder no one cares if she's lying or not. She should deal with her own emotions and issues without capitalizing off of the many clicks she knows she can rake in with this "feel bad for me" energy that she is very clearly showing.

I’ve never been a fan of Lele Pons, but I in no way believe she’s faking. As someone with Tourette’s myself, I hate that people are becoming self-proclaimed experts so they can prove that she’s lying. She has tics, and people with tics have good periods and bad periods. I’m sure she has become experienced at repressing and covering up her tics, hence why people weren’t aware. It’s difficult but possible to hide tics, especially when you can edit them out as need be. It’s also incredibly hurtful for someone to reveal vulnerable details about themself (as much as you don’t like them) to be met with insults and accusations of lying. That’s just rude and spiteful. So props to you, James, for talking about this with both respect and humor
I think the editing was done strategically to show them more in that one episode. Also from what I saw her tics come on the more stressed she is and the more she is focused on them. I assume that episode used clips that weren’t from one specific week like how a tv show is set up, but clips from moments during the span of the entire filming.

I have Tourette's too. The expectation for how it is to have them also makes it seem like she's faking it, not that I believe she is. You brought up very good points. When I'm focused or feeling upset in any sort of way my tics become more frequent. When I'm happier they also become more frequent, not to mention the more you focus on them the more they seem to happen. Tourette's is a pretty chill disorder and is not like the stereotype at all unless you are very high on the spectrum like the creator Sweet Anita. I'm more middle ground on the spectrum.

Its kinda shitty when its about skin colour and being part of the Latin culture when most of them are very much loved, praised. Trust me, colorism is still a thing heavy in the latino culture. We noticed and brought it up to him, so he rolled with it and turned it into a meme. When people tried to bring it up to Lele, she closed off and saw that as hate and invalidating her experience as being latina. I'm guessing it's a complicated issue for her and must come from her trying to overcompensate because she's white passing but she really needs to get some self-awareness and realizes that yes she does overcompensate and say that a lot. And it shouldn't be an issue. If you're proud of being latina that's great, make it a meme as long as you're self-aware people won't care.

I feel like lele mentions she’s Latina so often because it’s sort of developed into her brand and identity. She likely struggles with self image and self esteem and it’s something she sort of clings to. She doesn’t know who she is and she doesn’t know if she even likes whoever that person is. She’s self branded herself as the Latina girl as a way to have an identity. Maybe growing up she was always “the Latina friend” too so maybe it’s a sense of normalcy she holds onto.

If a friend or family member has OCD, you try to gradually un-involve yourself in their OCD but stopping doing tasks that the person with OCD wants to avoid or get done (even if they themselves can't complete the task so you have to). If you continue to do these tasks for them it can promote their OCD behaviours (obsessions and compulsions) and won't help the person with OCD get better if they are undergoing treatment. The reason why you gradually un-involve yourself in the person's OCD is because suddenly stopping involving yourself can cause the person with OCD great anxiety, worsened OCD behaviours, depression, and more. I don't think Lele's mother should not be doing things for Lele snd it can be quite unhealthy for both of them.
Beth Beth As someone who has OCD, I 100% agree (I mean, it’s a fact but I can’t think of another way of saying it). My parents did and still kind of do the same thing, because they did try stopping abruptly but I really went in a downward spiral. That being said though, they are gradually uninvolving themselves, mainly with not giving reassurance but we have to start somewhere. It also takes a lot of time and commitment, along with a super strong bond with the people/person who is involved with compulsions. (From my own experience anyway)
My heart goes out to anyone with OCD tourettes or any any of these as someone who doesn't suffer from these things I think it's easy to forget how lucky I and others are

I agree with this. I suffered from OCD when I was younger and it was pure hell. I barely left my house for 2 years because of how crippling and anxiety inducing it was. Its very hard for family/friends to handle and often they can enable your behaviours because it feels easier than challenging the compulsions in the moment. But if you never give them a chance to change...they won’t. Though this also depends on age and circumstances etc. I was 12 when it started to get really bad so obviously I was too young and immature to be able to handle it alone. To make a long story short; I think your idea is really good!

As a Venezuelan living in Venezuela, when Lele went to that Venezuelan concert people didn't like it. She talked about remembering a different Venezuela but she left when she was 5, also the latino community doesn't like the latinos born/raised in The States, they're seen as incredibly privileged and entitled.
When Lele showed up to represent Venezuela when she makes content that only perpetuates Latino stereotypes a lot of people didn't like it, it's weird when there's not many mainstream representatives of your culture and the one that gets brought up is just a caricature stereotypes that didn't even grew up in the culture.

Yeah, sometimes I get what people say when they want representation but this is not it. My rule is that if they are supposed to be representing a group of people, they need to provide a new perspective or something that you only know from experience. Her content easily could've been made by someone who's not latino and just searched up a few basic things.

Having had (under control currently) severe OCD having to put all of your day to day responsibilities onto someone else (be it a parent or partner) does help to relieve symptoms temporarily, however in the long run it is only prolonging the condition because you need to face up to the challenges of something as small as washing dishes as that is how you begin to overcome it. But in terms of speed or ease, handing the responsibility over to someone else is often the easiest option.
