for some reason, James Dickey came to visit my elementary school in about 1973 or 1974 and gave a presentation to all us kids. I remember being a little scared of how smart he was.
What a fantastic writer this man was.
“don’t you boys never come back up here again.
I’d like to see this town die peaceful...”

@@DeanH92 lol, nice 😂
What a thrill to find and watch this. My husband was his student and adored him.
That's awesome! I would love to have experienced his teaching first hand.
@@behelton any opportunity for an interview to be arranged for the channe?

Do you still have it? If so, I'm sure the University of South Carolina would buy it for their archives.
Thanks for posting this entire interview.
Love Dick. Deliverance goes down as one of my favorite novels, better than the film
Hell yes, far more absorbing, worthy of Hemingway.
Let's get us a buncha damn hippies to sit heeyah, around on the damn floor, and smile...

Interesting conversation
if youve never read "to the white sea", it is a great novel, almost like an epic poem. just as dark as deliverance, maybe darker.
I'd say definitely darker. But more personal
Love the dukes of Hazzard boss hog accent, only really had the one success with Deliverance, but what a novel
He was more into poetry than novels.
Ain't gonna last longer than them damn eyebrows.
Amazing writer but a loose cannon…
