I used to play on a server with some of these guys back in the day, though I doubt they remember me- the main dude FLOOR_MASTER ran a server called 2fort2furious. Pretty chill and funny regulars there, goofy maps occasionally.
And, as the universe demands a balance to "evil" (griefing), this man gave us cp_steel. Another 2f2f regular gave us pl_frontier

This was uploaded only 15 years ago but still it feels like I'm watching ancient history. There was just nothing like TF2 and it's community in the early years.
I've been around since the Beta in 2007 (Primeval Warrior & everything) and though I nostalgia over a lot in this game I don't think it's best years were actually the beginning (though I guess you could consider 2009-2012 its early years- the range I believe was its peak). Llot of great communities during that time (including one I formed through my server- The Snack Shack).
The game during this period was not bloated with tacky hats & unusuals, community servers were thriving, modding had a bigger presence, people talked a lot more over voicecomm, no weird bot problems. I miss it :(

I want this back so much, i want the old TF2 so, so much. The first two or three years in TF2 were amazing but then it just went downhill so fast and so hard, i wish there was a way to experience vanila TF2 still to this day or at least 2008 or 2009 version.

Check out "Team Fortress 2 Classic". It's a Source mod that recreates the original look and feel of TF2 with a limited item stock and some reworked content from the original beta. Sure, there's some _content_ (like the VIP mode, and 4 team maps) that is pretty wacky...but in terms of _gameplay_ it's pure classic TF2.

Can't even count how many times I watched Team Roomba griefing vids..still cracks me up. Such a shame this game was so much fun when it was launched and it became a mess, with the hats, blueprints. Kids yelling constantly. Keep it simple stupid should have been the model. Game was fun as it was and devs ruined it.

Even i haven't played in 2007, but instead started in 2010, it was much better game compared to today with all toxic community now, barely any cheaters, mic screaming kids, even if there was kids most of then acted mature, no competition in tryharding, not comparing your skills with your gear, f2p bring more people but destroyed community.

Nothing_Much HereToSay Yup. I did some digging, and discovered that Team Fortress Classic (in many ways the predecessor to TF2) had an "Escort" game mode. Basically, there was a civilian. The goal of one team was to protect him; the goal of the other team was to kill him. Valve originally wanted to add the Escort game mode into TF2 (even having sound files for the character), but never quite reached a point they were happy with.
