  • @jellyfish5940

    That's a very interesting, very in depth look at a movie box. It's light years away from my TVIX box years ago that had only one internal bay for hard drive, and only up to 1080p playback. I'm currently using a 4 years old computer, running Kodi on Windows and a 10 years old 4 bays NAS, feeding all that to a laser projector for general use. It has served me well for many years, as long as the content isn't in 4K. I have built a new computer last year and it plays 4K nicely, but I'm thinking maybe I should look into a dedicated movie box to lighten the computer's workload. It is a difficult decision as someone pointed out, movie box like this could be out dated quickly when there is a new codec and no available firmware updates. On the other hand, you can almost always get to even the last drop of juice on a computer based system, as long as you update your codec and UI. I do like the slim aesthetic of the zippiti, on their other hand, the internal drive options could be omitted as I'll most likely to run my hard drives from a NAS via USB. I guess the search goes on.

  • @jiamiekori6575
    @jiamiekori6575 Před 4 lety +3

    It's a solid streaming player if you don't mind the lack of the Dolby Vision. I still have the Zidoo X9S ( very similar in terms of supported formats and 4K/3D/HDR Blu-Ray Menu), but I rarely use it since I sold my 3D TV and switched to Dolby Vision/HDR format. The lack of DV support and the real Google-certified Android TV made me retire it ( it's collecting dust at the moment ). I would recommend exploring the Zidoo media players, especially the Zidoo Z9S ( updated X9S I have ), very capable and under $200 with SATA, and a bunch of other ports.
    But I decided to go with the Nvidia Shield TV 2019 model and 32TB Plex NAS Server. Nvidia Shield supports pretty much all lossless audio and video codecs ( this is assuming you don't care about the 3D MVC and Blu-Ray menu support ). We recently discovered over at MakeMKV forums that it does support the Dolby Vision .ts files with lossless Atmos with profile 4 and a full enhancement layer.
    Useful review BTW, thank you!

    • @tonim8669
      @tonim8669 Před 4 lety

      I would say if you're going to utilizeall the features that this has been yes if you're someone that loves to download menu art and download stuff and you get a big hard drive and you do everything that this has to offer otherwise. This is a waste of money no offense but don't go overboard because most people just want a box to stream and watch movies. There are plenty out there for less than a hundred bucks you can get a box that supports up to two terabyteswith a SATA hard drive and can do a lot of stuff. But if you're going to utilize all the features this has and it has plenty of features Blu-ray menudownload download the app. Use a computer to watch your movies remotely anywhere. You can do so much with this box I have it trust me it's a great box accept the fact that they don't upgrade Android 6.0 unless you get someone to route it I'm not sure but I had someone who wrote the Android 7 but if they could do like Android 9 I'd probably consider keeping it. However this is overkill for most people because most people don't need all that. But if you want to really good box get a cheaper box or get one from Europe it's called himedia pro 10that box is somewhat similar to this can do up to I think 8 terabytes are 10 terabyte SATA and is about half the price of this box maybe less I think it's like 175. It has Android 7.0 I had that box as well gray box I just wanted something that had all the bells and whistles but I regret it now because I don't use all the features but we'll see you in the future I might upgraded if someone can upgrade it for me

    Two questions - Local private listening for more than one person, and remote streaming.
    Does it have local private listening mode for more than one person (example smartphone app)? With Amazon Fire TV stick you, one person can listen via bluetooth (I think bluetooth is restricted to allowing just one audio connection), whereas Roku has a smartphone app so more than one person can connect to the Roku player using their smartphone app and listen. Note: To minimize possibility of audio/video sync problems the headphones should plug into the smartphone instead of wireless.
    So does Zappiti have a smartphone app that allows LAN connections to the media player for private listening? Also, what are the options for someone to stream movies remotely? I have a NAS and a PC with Emby running on it. My parents have an Emby client app running on their Roku thousands of miles away and they can stream from my Emby server to their Roku remotely. I'm curious if this could replace my NAS/PC solution and allow a remote Roku to stream movies saved on the Zappiti device.

I’ve noticed the same with the white TEXT on Netflix, Xbox one x to UB9000. The Xbox text is white, where as on the UB9000 is a slightly darker off white. Is there a way of tuning this on the 9000, good to see its not just my player 🤣🤣🤣. Thanks👍🏻👍🏻

    I just purchased one of these in the UK and it is going straight back after the Easter holiday. No forced subtitle support from MKV files is garbage. Tried a few movies over weekend and Spiderman Homecoming at the 15 min mark when he enters the store to buy food , Game of Thrones season 1 when Dothraki is spoken and Ford v Ferrari at 27 min mark all subtitles do not display. The only way you get the correct subtitles to display is by using an ISO file.

    Hi Shane, great video as always. Question: I just got an NX7 and have been STRUGGLING to get a decent looking pic out of this Zappiti player! Streaming the same content through the Panasonic UB820 is a night and day difference. The pic out of the Zappiti looks awful! Blacks are almost non-existent.
    I was really hoping to replace my Panasonic with the Zappiti because I rarely use discs anymore, but the PQ I'm getting with the Zappiti is just really bad. SD content looks good, it's the 4K HDR content that looks like $hit.
    FYI, project is set to frame adapt HDR, BT2020 Wide (to engage color filter), frame by frame (processing), and DI is set to manual at 0. For you to score this so close to the UB9000, I'm thinking there is something off in the settings of the Zappiti. After spending a week on this and coming up empty, any help would be appreciated.

UPDATE It wasn't my receiver, I just rebooted the Zappiti 4K back to factory settings and now everything is working fine unit must of had a bug. I now can play Dolby Atmos and DTS X. I really love this machine I think this is one of the best investments I ever made.I like this unit as it's a standalone unit you don't have to link it to your computer and have your computer on I just walk into my Home theater turn it on and it's all right there and it also plays all the formats.

    I have another comment to make after using this for a few months. I have an “older” receiver, a Pioneer sc-87. I had to connect the Zappiti directly to my projector otherwise if the signal had to go throught the receiver, it would not reach my projector. I had to buy an expensive directional hdmi cable since my prjector is 25’ from the receiver. ALSO, this means that i need to plug the hdmi audio from the Zappiti to the receiver. Thank God the unit had hdmi audio out! It solved the issue, but not completely... sometimes the audio is sent to my projector instead of the receiver. I need to repress the Zappiti input of my receiver to hear the sound from it... IN CONCLUSION, this is not wife-friendly equipment. The unit is lovely for someone that loves troubleshooting stuff and find an excuse for spending time in the home theater room.

May be obvious for some, but not from me, an avid electronic user from Canada. The unit works great.
