It's it satisfying knowing what would be a relatively inexpensive tap in the rear on most vehicles will cost you 40k to repair?
Is it satisfying to know when your purchasing your vehicle the company is losing 30-40 k on every sale? Translated would you pay an additional 50k so the company can start showing a prophet?
Is it satisfying to know the company stock is in the toilet? Translated if they go out of business your left high and dry.
How much does Sony lose on each TV they make? And why would you care? Also, there is a thing called insurance, and I don't crash into people so repairs won't cost me anything.
@@thedukeofmanville Sony loses money because of cheap competitors and as a result they lower the price to stay relevant. Rivian didn't have any competition in it's category of electric but it's competing with ice which is less expensive to build. As far as me caring I really don't just stating facts. And do you really want to talk about insurance? Really?
Both houses & cars have become too expensive for most Americans these days, most especially for single people and/or single-income households. Even a lot of 2 income households can't afford them.
This issue has been exacerbated by the practices of insurance companies, which can have negative effects as well. Some insurance companies may contribute to rising prices by providing coverage that encourages risky lending and speculation. Additionally, certain insurance policies can be expensive, making it even more challenging for families to secure affordable properties. It's important for individuals tor consider diversifying their income streams, independent of government reliance, as a wise approach in the current situation.
What if you don't know how to trade any of these? I mean, see your point some people have the money and are willing to invest, the question is where to.
Can't understand how, if a vehicle is so unreliable, it can get the highest score for owner satisfaction to the point that the majority of owners (me included) would buy it again. My R1S is hands down the best car I've owned and driven.
Was exactly the same when Tesla were the worst ever made quality wise, they were still at the top for would you buy again? YES Because just like Tesla's cult Rivian has the same type of cult!
Online troll
Give it 10-15 years and see if that still holds true
Stop buying crappy cars. 😂😂😂
@@pearldiver7 They do now, until the money starts running low and the stock price keeps tanking. You will be collateral damage with your investment.
September 2022 owner here. 25,000 miles in and I’m still loving the truck. I would 100% buy again.
Love my Rivian R1T. I would definitely buy it again. The issues, like my tailgate latches not working are annoying, but not a dealbreaker. Rivian’s customer service is excellent and always makes it right. My issue is due to improperly torqued bolts, so presumably this will get ironed out at the factory in short order. There is so much amazing about Rivian, it’s hard to fault them too much for the small stuff.
Thanks for sharing 👍
100% would buy again. I just matched a Masaratti while hauling a load of wood today. We had a friendly race, I lost but we were both amazed I could come close. It's the most amazing vehicle I have ever driven. It can get through almost anything with grace; snow, sand, mud, curves, forest roads. Honey badger don't care. (I named mine Honey Badger.)
Thanks Duke for reporting the facts!
I've heard that Rivian has extremely responsive and helpful customer support where you always talk to a human, and get someone assigned to your issue.
Surely that's part of the reason the customer satisfaction is so high.
They do now, but just like Tesla, that won’t last through the warranty period. 😂😂😂
I find CR to be laughable as a source for reliable data. But that's just my opinion about their opinions. I have a 23 Volvo C40. It has been a delightful experience for 14 months/8500 miles. Not only would I buy another Volvo, I'd buy another Volvo EV if I could. But that would be a replacement for my wife's car and she is most definitely NOT interested in an EV.
EV are nice cars all cars break down but I'm all EV even know I own an ice
Same here! Thanks for commenting!
In the 1970’s, CR used to buy a vehicle and evaluate it by themselves. Now they ask the members to rate their own vehicle without the verification from CR. It’s based on the honor system.
First off if it hasn't been said, thanks for your service! Love my ev, haven't had any issues and would never go back to gas. I'm always frustrated when my wife takes it and I have to drive her ICE. Only issue is technology is moving so fast I feel like every ev will be a dinosaur in 3 years. Tough on the wallet if you want to upgrade but hopefully OTA updates will become more common and help offset that.
Thanks! With over the air updates current EVs will still be relevant for a good while. Battery technology doesn't improve that rapidly, but hopefully Battery prices come down.

Patrick, we own 2 EVs and 1 ICE. Don't be discouraged. Live in the moment and enjoy your time here on this planet with your EV.
I used to be like you. I thought I was done with polluting ICE cars until my Tesla broke down at midnight and left me stranded. Haven’t had that happen for 30 years despite owning the most unreliable ICE brands. Now I am driving a 5 liter supercharged V8 to bring my carbon output in balance. 😂😂😂 I will never own another EV. They are a scam for the environmental benefits and they are a pain in the butt, and cost more in too many ways to list. Enjoy your garbage.
@@JetFire9 Yikes. Kind of feel like this comment isn't really about ev's. Feel better.
Lol and even with his supercharged he gets smoked 🚬 🤣
I remember back in the day when BMW topped their reliability charts. I’ve learned to take CR’s reliability reports with a huge grain of salt. Both my and my wife’s ICE cars were rated high with CR and the next year they downgraded the same model year we bought with their suggestion retroactively to poor for both cars 🤦♂️
I question the report as well which is why I added the owner's satisfaction part. The two don't add up. Thanks for commenting!
The way consumer reports measures things is dated. That's the problem. When they recall they think take in and repair not wait for software. Its harder to measure what real problems are
Me too.Totally fantastic vehicles and I'd absolutely buy it again. . Best I've ever owned. Of course a new car company has growing pains. But Rivian has a great attitude towards customer service and quality, and is improving rapidly. I have nothing but great things to say about their service and support.
Couldn't agree more!
The established car companies near the bottom should be the ones laughed out of the building.
New car comapnies are understandable, as long as they contnue to improve quality. And they respond to issues with existing issues.
I love my R1T, 2 years in and it's been great. Rivian's service is hands down the best compared to other cars I own (Audi,Porsche, Lexus, Chevrolet).
I agree!👍
Conjob reports. The legacy OEM's have bad reliability issues. With ALL their cars EV or not. I have no reliability issues with my Tesla after 250k miles.
I know somebody with the Rivian I don’t think they’ve had any problems, I personally have a Tesla I have had zero issues, I really loved that car and now my wife has completely taken that over maybe it’s just luck I have a hellcat, a ram truck, and a Hyundai I haven’t had trouble with any of them granted they’re pretty new except the Hyundai is 11 years old

First, thanks for the video and topic. I'm coming up on 2yrs in. Own both the R1T and R1S (both Launch Green). I have not had a single major issue with my vehicle. I brought it in to the Service Center once, to replace a cracked windshield from a rock. I don't think these reports take in to account OTA's. To me, the same standards that apply to ICE vehicles aren't the same for EV's. Our 2018 Ford Explorer spent more time in service last year than either of our Rivians, and we hardly drive it: Oil Changes, Coolant System, brake calibration, battery and cable replacement, etc. Would 100% buy Rivian again. And if not, definitely another EV (probably Porsche).
Yes, will looking at Rivian again, specially the R2.
I will be looking forward to the R2 as well for our secondEV, but I might lease another EV until then.

I've had my Bolt euv Lt daily-driver for one year now, and it's had no problems: zero. CR roasted Bolts too. 20 out of 140,000 Bolts burned (0.0001428%), but the later N2.2 and N2.2a LG Chem batteries have no problems or recalls. I wish I were able to justify the cost of a Rivian, as the owners I've talked to love them.
Why are charge stations dystopian? Its just a power cord out the ground, no hood, no heat, no bathrooms, no food. I’m sorry to report but current infrastructure is a dystopian hellscape.
CR reviewers hate EVs, even though they praise how smooth and quiet they are. CR needs to learn how to drive with OPD.
Very balanced video. It's important to state or advise of the good and bad of an EV. I have not experienced any of CR's negatives on my 2022 R1T launch edition (even the powered tonneau cover still works) and 100% would purchase another. Once you become familiar with EVs (few to no buttons, one-peddle driving, all or most controls on the touchscreen, learn how to plan and navigate charging on road trips, set-up L2 home charging), you look back at stopping at gas stations as something from 1950. Charging at home is so convenient, pain free and inexpensive. The transition to EVs is currently slowed by price and fear of change.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Thanks for commenting!
There is no transition to EVS. EVS are just a passing fad.
@@markmiller8903 We shall see.
I would love a video where you go over all the EV's you've owned over the years and pros/cons of each. Rivian is dope!
I generally like CR, but this 1 sounds cray to a long term 5+ yr EV owner, decades of gassers. Should include TCO of maintainance & fuel. Also they talk like EVs are a mystery , we'll see? Many of us have already seen. Some sound fresh out of 2013.
I haven't trusted CR for decades. I know tech, and when I read anything they cover about tech they always have me scratching my head. Then when I read how they evaluated I always have this ah-ha moment, and go no wonder this review is so skewed.
However, Rivian was at the top of 4 out of 5 Consumer Reports categories: comfort, driving, cabin storage, and ownership cost. Only missed on usabilty??? Most importantly Rivian was #1 for owner satisfaction at 86%!!! The closest was Mini way back in second at 77%.
How can it miss on usability?😄 I think think the owners may have a different take on that. Thanks for commenting!
@@thedukeofmanville I know right?! I trust CR's testing, but not their consumer-based ratings. Why? The fanboys. For years Porsches, BMWs, and Corvettes dominated at the top of the ratings because their owners loved them and didn't care about reliability or costs. Meanwhile, we were all hearing horror stories about these cars. However, it is still impressive how quickly baby Rivian jumped to the top.
Lol Mercedes was going to do a partnership with rivian. I havent saw a bad rivian video review not many just news articles
I dont trust CR at all, to me they are nothing but another cog in the mainstream media machinery. I can't speak to Riven in particular but in general when anyone looks even halfway into the sheer complexity of any gas (ICE) vehicle's motor and transmission, right off the bat you are eliminating an incredible number of failure points related to the motor, transmission, cooling system, ignition system, etc etc etc and I mean a LOT of failure points that you dont even have in a battery electric vehicle. As time goes on and as the lower cost EVs come out, people will migrate to EVs because they will be lower cost, much lower maintenance and be reliable for many more miles that people will never look back. I say this as someone has done all of my own car repair and maintenance for 35+ years. If people want a gas/ICE car, great, get what you want and I think people should have the options they want be made available to them (not forced on them), but I personally cant wait to go EV.
I just bought a tesla four months ago in October 2023! Today's four months and yes I'd buy a tesla again! I came from a ice car 🚘to elertic. But yes I'd buy a tesla again!
EVs = Shell Game
that makes no sense with Mini at #2 . Let them get some higher miles . Minis are also overpriced so i dont trust the owners . Wealthy people with cars that they LIKE doesnt mean they are good or well made . Mini is very much a style centric brand. Ive known people with them that were garbage and they forgave them because they liked the mini thing . When new and working they can be fun enough and capture a certain style, but you pay a premium for what used to be anyway from my experience a cheaply made overpriced BMW made to look like a mini . Anything German is generally good to GREAT for fist owner or leasee and a nightmare for anybody stupid enough to buy a used german car thinking they are getting something nice with deprciation discount that then eats the equity in car with repairs . Soo much is subjective. But stats on what breaks is a better metric . Initial quality is another BS thing , especially for high end cars , they all have pretty good to great INITIAL QUALITY same as stuff you buy from walmart in many cases.
It might be time to get off the "anti EV wagon" my friend. Folks are figuring it out on their own.
