I'm in the group of people that love these blades, no they may not be the sharpest but for me on a 3 pass shave it gets me as close as any other blade does and on top of that I have never had irritation out of these blades! I will order them again.
Vols24 are they flexible like can you bend easily
Nick Shaves I trust your judgement and I recently tried these blades and you were right on the money. I have been watching you and Busta, your experience with shaving is right on the money. I appreciate a top notch opinion with these products and you are correct sir.
Some say he is still lathering right now
Yeah I think some serious OCD is at play here. 😂
Do you get the feeling in his house his wife is the one standing by the door with the car keys shouting out, "let's go already!"
@@CaptVirtual
It pays off to do the extra lathering if you do not exfoliate regularly.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Approximately 1:10 seconds of lathering but its sped up so you don’t know how long he’s really lathering.
These were a big surprise for me. My current favorite.
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos Nick. I started with derby but I think they aren't sharp enough for me and kind of tug for me. Took your advice and bought a few from tryablade. Hopefully I can find my perfect match, keep up the good work and big ups from the Caribbean.
Nick gives it to us straight up, no waffle, 10/10.
Just got into using a safety razor with these blades. I'm very glad to see that other people dislike them too. If these were the only blades on the market, I'd probably go back to electric. I can get close with these on my cheeks, but only because I can go against-grain there without irritation. On my neck I get bleeding and crazy irritation even going with the grain, and barely any hair gets cut. I seriously get a better shave on my neck with a trimmer. Just ordered a blade sampler pack so in a few days I'll see if it's really the blades or if I'm just being stupid and gouging chunks out of my face.
Great video as always, Nick!
According to Dorco themeselves, there is no difference between the 300's and the 301's except for the packaging, which seems a little weird since they performed so differently for you.
I had gotten a pack of Dorco blades with the Micro Touch safety razor. I used two, and gave the rest away to a barber for use in his shavette. Glad to know it was not just me, I found I either had razor burn or a lot of hairs left every time I used those blades.
New subscriber and thnx/enjoy your channel very much!~!First time order from Stirling for their soap last week and cannot wait for it to arrive to try out!!
Thanks Nick , great review . I have used them , and after two shaves they just don't cut anymore .
After reading some of the reviews further down, I checked out my box and yes, the 300s are made in Vietnam.
Likely the difference is in the craftsmanship and quality control. They still look the same to me under the scope.
Really enjoy these product reviews bro. I used those blades once and threw it away after the first pass. They pulled and tugged like hell on my beard. To me (my opinion) they are the same as Derby blades as far as performance. But like most things in wet shaving it's very subjective. YMMV!
Look forward to more videos bro. Happy Holidays!
I have used Doctor blades for a while when I got the Micro Touc Safety Razor. I decided to use different blade brands because of the performance. I still have them but may need to make slow second passes in different directions to get the results I want.
Hey Nick, great review as usual. I never miss your reviews and I find your point of views close to my taste. You mentioned that you will review the Gillette Siver Blue next, I am telling you you will love it. They are well balanced for smoothnes and sharpness wise.
I have a little comment about the way you use your soap pucks. You always put hot water before you go into the shower. You should know that the hot water dissolves the good oils from the soap. I know you put it on to your face but you throw the remaining to the sink. At least put it onto a small bowl so you can dip your brush while lathering. Just don't waste it.
Great review, well done!
Nick, I am a great fan of your videos and would love to see a video on top products of 2015
I'm kinda happy to see you finally find a blade you don't like! - you're still a little too nice about it though lol Just say it "These blades suck!" emphasized by dropping the remaining blades in the trash lol (spit is optional)
This blade is really good for super sensitive skin. Korean men also have been known to have not very coarse beard growth. Hence that would explain things.
These work great on a slant. Not bbs on the apple but close enough for me. Thanks nick
Could you do a review of the van der hagen safety razor blades they are located in a lot of drug stores and supermarkets. Also what does the lucky tiger after shave smell like?
Those blades are very good and always gives me close shaves when paired with canned foams and gels.
I've been wet shaving for a year this month and have tried 10 to 12 different blades and never had an issue with any of them including the Dorco 300. I recently picked up a 5 pack of Van Der Hagen Ice tempered Stainless Steel Blades from Target and have had nothing but issues with them...cut's razor burn all that good stuff. I can't figure out if it's because the blades are too sharp or just not that smooth or both. Curious to see what your take on these blades are.
Have u tried using an ingrown hair brush? Amazon has some cheap silicon ones for $4-$6. It’s really helped my neck with ingrown hairs from shaving. Good review on the blades
been using these for the past year. much better than chinese made seagull brand. just bought gillette wilk sword. hope that it'll be the best out of the 3
Nick, I have a dumb question for you. I have never used the Stirling Soaps before and I a few of your videos you mentioned that you bought a sample puck and pressed it into one of there small tins. How do you press the soap in to the tin? Is it soft enough to form in the tin?
Thanks for doing these blade reviews Nick, it was through 1 of your older reviews I discovered my favourite blades; Astra SPs. I'm not really a fan of many blades less sharp than them, for me they just don't work (probably just get impatient with them to be honest).
Hello
I tried those because they came with the micro touch razor and I tried them with my Merkur 34C and had the same results that you did. Can you review the Bolzano Blades?.
Merry Christmas to the good doctor and his family. Don`t eat to much Nick.
*Just tried the Dorco Prime Platinum blades.*
*Excellent shaving, just as nick said they were. :D*
Obviously you cannot really review the new Fatip razor you mentioned in this video (at this point), but when you have shaved with it a few more times, I'm dying to hear your thoughts on it. I have a Fatip Grande, and depending on what I hear about the new razor online, I may pick one up at some point. Thanks!
Thanks Nick great video , I was thinking of getting those blades but now that I've seen your review , I'll stay away.
Any chance you can do a review of a Dr. Jon shaving soap?
do a deserted island shave video. your razor of choice, blades, soap, brush, aftershave. then shave with it.. it'll be a good video!!
I only just recently went to de safety razors. I prefer the butterfly type. What would you recommend for someone like me? I have the micro-touch one right now and am not really happy with it and would like something else. Could just be the blades that came with it which is the same you are using in this video, but I'm all ears for any suggestions you or anyone might have!
Thanks Nick.
Good shave nick....
hey nick, I;ve been watching a couple of your videos and think there awesome. I was checking through some of your videos and I watched where your show off the HUGE amount of soaps , brushes , blades and razors. I was like "dam". i'm not sure your ever going to finish all those products .i was wondering , do you have kids? if so, how many sons are getting into wet shaving ??
Nick, what is your go to Blade for your Merkur 34c safety razor?
Hi Nick, great video and review as always.
I just wanted to point one thing out. It will make sence as to the quality differences between the ST -300'S and the ST -301'S.
The 300's are made in Vietnam. The 301'S and the Primes are made in the South Korea factory.
I have also tried all 3 and agree the 300's are a inferior blade.
Thanks for all your help and contributions to the traditional shaving community.
The primes are made in vietnam , at least now
hey nick, have you heard of badger brand shaving soap? they sell them in a puck. how about reviewing it? a lot of people swear by it. love the videos, keep them up!
I have been using the 34c for about a year now thanks to you nick and I have enjoyed it. My go to is a feather blade, I can never get rid of my shadow around my chin even with a 3 pass. I ordered an R41 in hopes to get rid of it as alI have are mild razors and now trying aggressive. Any thoughts?
P.s. Great review
This were my first blades and I learned to shave with them (my face was like the grinch’s)😂
They are great if you use them in a shavette razor, and with less soap.
I wish we had access to all those soaps in the UK. We have a few Stirling soaps in the old packaging from UK based sellers but they cost £15 ($23?) not including postage. We get fleeced across the pond when it comes to wetshaving.
+DeeDeeDanone You guys need some local soap makers! In the mean time, you got TOBS and Trumpers creams really cheap, so I'm jealous.
+DeeDeeDanone +DeeDeeDanone Have you ever try Taylor of Old Bond Street, they are from London. Great soaps and creams, it is not pricey. I have a sandalwood cream that have lasted 8 months and I still using that cream.
+DeeDeeDanone You guys have Palmolive shave sticks there. One of the best around. You pay a fraction of the cost we do because of the shipping.
I've been getting hooked on the Dorco blades. Pretty sure the ST-301 and Prime are the same. I've noticed that the Prime Razor set now includes the St-301 blades. And I get a consistent great shave from both
People say they have contacted Dorco U.S. and Dorco Korea who say the 300 and 301 are the same, except for the plastic vs. cardboard box.
Sometimes the 300 seems to me not to be of the same quality. I just compared a Prime and a 300 under my cheapo digital microscope and they appear to be the same.
Would you please do a comparison of the 3 Dorco blades with your microscope which seems to be quit a bit clearer than mine?
Also, I have a suggestion for using the caliper. Put 5 or 10 blades together to get a more accurate measurement. In other words if a blade should be .09mm, 10 will equal .9mm.
Thanks for doing your product reviews.
nice review as always! It's known that Dorco St 300 is much inferior to st 301. Dorco ST 301 is made in Korea and St 300 is made in Vietnam. So the difference in quality is not a wonder. Waiting for your next Silver blue review. Could you please review also Israeli Personna (Red), also Gillette Wilkinson Sword from India, comparing to a German Wilkinson Sword and Shark Super Stainless. You made a review of super chromium, but super stainless is much cheaper (you can find around $6 on ebay) but I'd like to know how is the quality comparing to super chromium. thanks a lot for all your work
are the dorco blades better then the Derby ones?
Are these the made in Vietnam ones? I heard those are ok.
I thought these blades work pretty good with the wet shave club razor. I tried them in my other razor and they didn't work so good.
Those are the default blade for the Micro Touch One.
I new to shave soap's I've always use creams my question is after you finish lathering the brush do you leave the jar open to dry out how does that work?
+Apex820 Yes, I always leave the jar open on my bathroom counter for about 10 or so hours before putting the lid on it and putting it away.
Do you have in your plans a review about Gillette silver blue blades?, Have you thought about 2015 shave gear?. Is a shame that these are the best blades you can get in my country.
Can you tell me a weight of single blade?
Hey Nick thanks for another great review. As an aside. How will u be dealing with that ingrown. No really. I am curious
Bruno D'Adderio castor oil and a warm towel
I felt that these blades were just fine FOR ME. not discounting anyone else's experience, but I have tried them in several razors and was pleased with the results I achieved. as an aside, most people love Astra green packs, but they left me feeling irritated and they would pull and tug especially right below the chin. just goes to show YMMV.
try them with different razors they might work better with different heads as they change the angle
I ❤ DORCO!!!
I have discussed these blades - too much razor burn. So I agree. with you NickQuestion: Do you keep your blade in the razor between shaves Geofatboy said it causes rust, but I leave it in if I am going to use the blade a second time?
+chris ryan I don't think I've ever heard Geo say that.
I tried these blades several times and could not get a good, comfortable shave out of them. I won't use them again, pulled terrible and felt dull out of the wrapper.
These blades came with the micro touch one safety razor i got
So if I was buying a razor for my husband you would recommend a Feather? As far as sharpness goes.
Mjgirly7 feather, OR Gillette 7oclock stainless steel. The Gillette a bit more pricey, but smoother.
I bought too many of these for a nice price (they came in red boxes but they're still ST-300), my second blades ever, did okay for me with a pair of entry level cheap mild (metal) and very mild (plastic w/metal handle) razors, but not true BBS, they never were as satisfactory as the first time I did wet shaving (I used Schick Super Chromium back then). Then one day the plastic razor broke and the metal one started to rust, so I bought another really mild, but far better razor, got some new blades (Treet Platinum) and the results were so delightful I don't feel like using the ST-300 ever again. Maybe once I get a more aggressive razor I'll try again, but I'm stuck with like 8 packets too many.
I agree, I bought a 100 pack and threw them away after a dozen shaves. They were very inconsistent, some gave a decent shave and some tore my face apart.
I ended up nicking myself all over with these blades, and my face felt irritated for hours afterward. I ordered the Astra Superior Platinum blades and will see how those work.
Love these blades for daily shaves if you miss a day you may need something sharper
Hello Nick...I also agree with lots of other ppl hear these blades do tug and not so sharp. But I will say it's perfect for beginners starting out with safety razors as I used these when I started out due to my sensitive skin too. .helped me learn alot. Now I graduated to better blades. Thanks for the review and all your videos
My Old Faithful Bought mine in 2013 and my face is Still Smooth as a Baby After every shave.
this ones are very dull but smooth as fuck paired with my gillette slim adustable at stting number 9 its a beauty of a smooth shave
You use a lot of boar brushes, is there a reason that you don't use your badger brushes as frequent?
these came with my micro touch one. don't like them. aren't smooth enough for my sensitive skin. currently waiting for a sample pack to ship.
have you ever lathered just because you felt like it, but no shave?
Lol I do it on my hand too just for fun. sometimes stomach or head as well XD
Why do you shave if you don't need to?
Yo i got a razor the other day that cane with 100 free of these blades, so after I got it I was reading the package and something seemed off after I while I found out what it was, they say DOREO 😂💀 wish me luck guys😂
Just now finding this video. My wife bought a pack of these blades a few years ago and I just got around to using them. I found them to not be sharp, and like you I did pass after pass thinking I would get there. I stopped at 4 passes and thought my old cartridge razor did a better job. I’ll be tossing this pack of blades and moving on. Thanks for reviewing these.
Nick's worse nightmare is waking up with a full blown unwieldy grizzly Adams beard 😦🧔
Nice video, as usual. But I feel I should point out that these blades are supposed to be the exact same as the 301 you recently reviewed (more positively), just with paper packaging instead...
Alberto Tenti Different factory I believe.
Stay away!! Those are the blades that came with the Micro Touch One and I have never gotten a good shave with them. Even in my Edwin Jagger DE89
I tried one in my 39c slant razor and they work well in that. I would say they're good training blade for a slant razor, but they suck in most other safety razors.
They are a terrible combination of not sharp *and* not smooth. When I was a poor kid fresh out of high school I bought a micro touch one. I never got out of a shave without razor bumps. I bought a pack of Van Der Hagen blades from a local grocery store (~$2.79 for 20 blades) and even they were an instant improvement in both categories for a few cents extra per blade.
You're gonna try forever to get a smooth shave out of those blades. I have to combined those with my straight razor to get a cheap smooth shave out of them.
Hey Nick get a pair of tweezers and dig that ingrown hair out! At least that's what I do when I get ingrown hairs.
I got a few with a Dorco 602 plastic DE razor. The razor is great: cheap but gives a good shave (my travel razor) but these blades are pretty rubbish tbh. Why scrimp and save on DE blades when even quality blades are cheap compared to cartridges? For what it's worth I find Sharks the best cheap blades.
If i spent this much time shaving, my hair would be growing back by the 4th pass.
I just heard that the Dorco St 300's & the Dorco St 301's are the same blade just different packaging but don't quote me on it. I'm just the messenger. Lol
It is easy to assume they are the same blade just different packaging. Even Nick didn't catch that the ST-300's are made in Vietnam. The ST -301'S and Primes are made in there South Korea factory.
I have tried all 3 and there is a noticeable difference I quality from the two factories.
Badger and Blade forum members contacted the manufacturer and they reported back to them that they are in fact the very same blades, just in different packaging. I have used these blades and they do work ok, but there are some better or sharper blades out there.
From personal experience these blades are truly terrible. I get major razor burn every time and I always have patches left. I'd honestly rather use a disposable!
idk, i don't think i can be bothered doing more than 1 pass, lol. I'm lucky if I shave once a week anyway. I'm getting skin irritation just watching this.
too late for me i just bought a 100 of them
I think I can get a better shave with Ducttape on my face than with these blades.
Dang, those blades lobstered your face. My guess is that this blade would be good for teens who have peach fuzz or Asians who don't have dense stubble.
it's not a good deal if it's a bad blade. the only blade that I disliked more were the terrible Derbys.
ت
you guys need to learn how to use blades lightly if you nick yurself
worst blade ever i have some and they suck i always cut my self on em even if i try not to. im full of blood. i always shred my face with theese blades.
My worst blade, a tugger if there is one
These are the same blades sold by Family Dollar under their store name. Easily the worst blades I have used.
Dorco's are the most terrible blades I've ever used, you're lucky urs weren't corroded like mine were. paying 3x more for a high end brand is certainly worth it.
Honestly these Dorco razor blades are really shitty. I had to do a first past with this blade and it left so much stubble and hair behind. I had to finish my second and third pass with my trusty Gillette Silver Blue razors to get a close shave. The sharpness and smoothness of this shave was like night and day. I will never buy or use those raggedy ass Dorco blades again. Complete waste of money my money.
Lmao horrible blades one of the worst I've used
Just got into using a safety razor with these blades. I'm very glad to see that other people dislike them too. If these were the only blades on the market, I'd probably go back to electric. I can get close with these on my cheeks, but only because I can go against-grain there without irritation.
