  • In this week’s video, the Kuester Family shares what they teach in grades one and two from Memoria Press. Minimalist homeschoolers will appreciate how all the resources are compactly organized in an unconventional piece of furniture.

    I smiled when I saw those pillow bags in your drawer. I also save the clear zipper bags from bedding. They are great for storing/organizing toys and other things. And this is a very helpful video. I like that you let your daughter use "fancy pens" for cursive. Also, the background noise in your videos (children!) sounds charmingly familiar.

    Thank you so much for your encouraging comments. Zipper bags are very practical when you have toddlers trying to spill every container in the house daily! I’m happy to hear you found the video helpful.

    Can you please share more about the recitation books and how you come up with or where you find the poems and questions? Thank you!

      Hi there. I made the recitation books using the Memoria Press Curriculum Grade Manuals for each child. It was just a matter of knowing what was coming each week and making them ahead of time. I'm in the process of doing this again this summer for the new year.

    I love your videos! I'm also Canadian and I've been looking online for some Canadian coin rubber stamps but can't seem to find them anywhere. :/ Where did you find yours?

      Hi and thanks for your comment. I was given the Canadian rubber stamps from another homeschool mom. I don’t know their source. My apologies.

    Great video. Thank you for sharing. How do you go over 1st grade and 2nd grades separately with the girls? Is there any overlap? How long does it typically take you to do the curriculum on any given day? Thank you again🙂!

      Great questions. The grade one and two girls school together for about 1.5-2 hrs. each weekday morning. We can finish by 11 or 11:30 easily. I do recitation, prayer, and poetry first together using the grade one materials. Then we do math and spelling. Most weeks, the spelling jives together with similar rules being followed. After that, I take turns one-on-one doing reading a pond writing. At this point, the grade one student is done and ready to go play. I finish the morning reviewing Latin with the grade two. Socials and science a couple times a week in the afternoon along with music and art happens too.

      Thank you so much for your reply! My kiddos will be going into 1st and 2nd grade, and MP looks great. I've just been intimidated by the amount of material and wondering if I can at least some subjects together. It looks like it is working out for you. Thanks again!

    in the first grade, are the books like the blaze book meant to be read by the student or the parent?

      Hi there! Thanks for looking at the video. For all the 'Billy and Blaze' books, my first grader and I usually follow this logical progression - I read the page, we read the page together, then they attempt it solo. Memoria Press goes slowly. By the end of the week, the child is usually reading all by themselves several pages at a time.

    Where did you get the act of contrition aid from?

    • @TheKuesters
      @TheKuesters  Před 2 lety +1

      I think my husband just made it! On one page, it is simply just the standard 'Act of Contrition' and then 15-20 basic examination of conscious questions for kids.

      Awesome!
      What have you thought of level 2? I’m getting ready to purchase the second grade package (minus math because we already have a program) and I’m just going back and forth about what to do.
