- Willie, Sarah and their dogs Jack Spaniels & new puppy, Nori, continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
In this episode, the Skye Lifers explore the beautiful woodlands close to their cottage, which have been carpeted in native bluebells. We take a look at the folklore surrounding these beautiful flowers and Sarah is inspired to create a painting based on what we see.
Plus, Builder Bill is at work again - this time repurposing some more salvaged fish boxes from the beach into additional planters for our cottage garden.
And, the Skye Life Hair Salon is back open for business - with appointments for Sarah and Jack. Can Willie please both his customers or will it be a hair-raising experience..?!

As an avid viewer, I think Jack Spaniels should be awarde for the doggy oscar awards for the cutest slight head tilts and loving looks. The scene were willie had finshed clipping him...well I could hear the collective "awwwww" from the whole of you tube! Xxx

Planters are a great idea and look good. Maybe a couple of wheels would help moving them around when full of soil. You can then move for the sun 😊
The planters look great, very noble to up cycle what you can forage from the debris in the sea. Great that you both turn your hands to lots of tasks and complement each other x the dogs are settling in together so well x

On a hill in the suburbs of Nottingham is a small wooded hill that, in the Spring, is covered with a carpet of bluebells. My mother, as a child, wandered with her sisters in what she remembered as her fairy wood. The wood is much smaller now. Swallowed by urban development, but each time I visit Nottingham I make a point to visit the area and imagine my mother and my aunts gatherIng a bunch or two and living their early dreams. Strange how the simple flower has such power to evoke such memories. 😎🇬🇷

Those bluebells are so beautiful Sarah. I adore English Bluebells they bring me back to my childhood from age eleven when we moved from London to Wiltshire, and the canal ran along the bottom of our road and the woods had scores of wild Bluebells carpeting the ground.

We have rescued washed up fishing boxes too. Peter grew samphire in one, collecting sea water to keep the sandy soil moist. Last year he grew onions in two boxes and we had the most amazing yield - 47.5lbs - kept the kitchen supplied for months, only running out in early April! This year, three are planted up - two and a half with onions and the other half with shallots. Good luck with your boxes.

Always good to recycle things and I think it is a good idea to use those fish boxes as planter boxes. How sweet of Willie to do Sarah's hair. As Willie is an Elvis fan, I wanted to let you know that I'm currently on holiday in Scotland with my friend, who, like me, is a huge Elvis fan. We have just spent a couple of days near Prestwick, where, of course, we visited the airport and saw the plaque which commemorates the fact that Elvis was there in March 1960 (although they have got the date wrong). We also stayed at the Adamton Country House Hotel which was used as the Officers Mess for the US Airforce back then. We saw the plaque in the bar there where Elvis made a phone call to Priscilla, who was, of course, still in Germany.
We are currently having a few days in Lonmay near Fraserburgh as research has shown that Elvis' ancestors were from here. His great, great, great, great, great, great granddad was Andrew Presley who emigrated to America (I think I've got that right).
That's the end of the Elvis trail here in Scotland and tomorrow we will be travelling further north to visit Dingwall where I was born.

Love the bluebell painting, love the bluebell wood too . Wish our dog was that calm when he has a cut and a wash , he hates it , after trying 4 or 5 groomers we’ve actually found one that he will tolerate .

Love the re-purposing of 'found' objects....the planters a great idea...n practical!
Couple of ideas.....using a large washer on inside,when screwing box t legs would help prevent 'splitting' if moved when full!
Also.. a couple of holes drilled through frame n ropes found when beach cleaning being used t create handles n add 'bottom support'...may be usefull? Keep up your good work!❤
Love your up cycling planters! I turned a small kiddy’s pool into one this year and have been pleased with how my zucchini & zinnias are thriving. 💗
Our squash plants have not done so well 😢 Hopefully one or two will survive!! 🤞
@@livingtheskyelife all my best to them. I have mine where they get morning light, shade in early afternoon, then sun into evening. It keeps my soil moist because it’s extremely sandy. They still get about 8 hours a day.
