I live in Cancun. It’s also important to mention that the hotel businesses here laid off 200,000 workers within a span of 2 weeks during the pandemic, with no financial aid whatsoever. Cancun only has a population of 600,000 people. Furthermore, many people were not even allowed to leave the state or Cancun itself. Besides the tourists, even locals were blocked from going to the beach.

Hi Paul, I am a new subscriber, found your YT when I was looking for Spanish learning content. I really like your teaching approach since you also talk so much about grammar terms. I have one problem though, when you say "indicative" or "subjunctive" and some other terms I don't know what you are talking about. I am 61 years old, and I have forgotten most of my English grammar terms from high school. I feel like I should first brush up on my grammar terms and meanings and then dive into my Spanish language learning. What do you recommend? I will search your channel to see if you have already covered this topic. Thank you for your service as a law enforcement officer!

Was in Cozumel during COVID. It was like a ghost town.
Helped out a few street vendors by taking a "resort tour". They got a decent comission for bringing us to the resort. We gave them our coupons for free services, like massages, that we got for taking the tour when we left. They were able to exchange them for a few more dollars.

Cancun was my go to place during covid. It was easy as pie to get to and from there.

Yeah it was the best! I miss it. I also regret not buying that Tulum villa for 1/8 the cost of it today!

I got covid a total of 5 times and never left the town. My bedroom was at 100% capacity at night and 50% capacity all day long.

I remember what it was like in the 80s and 90s ....i no longer visit the Yucatan and prefer the west coast for its uninhabited beaches and lack of tourists

Our first visit was in 1987…..people today have no clue of the paradise then. Covid gave it time to breathe again.

Love Mexico-but would not go back to Mayan Riveria. Had been there twice each in late 80’s & 90’s. Was treated great. 2007 still treated well. 2015 Puerto Morelos was great. 2018 Puerto Morelos- Not Great!
Airport employees were horrible to us . Several rental car companies tried to rip us off. Even restaurant employees in Playa del Carmen were rude. I figured at that time the area was not interested in my gringo dollars - so I decided to never go back there. However looking forward to traveling to Merida. Progreso area for beach vacation & perhaps Pacific Coast also. Also summer seaweed in now an issue in the area.

Yes it was great 👍. The key was to go get COVID a couple weeks before the trip. Then no worries of getting it on the trip.
