  • Thanks to CZcamsr 'Alba Ecstasy' for enlightening me to this little trick. When set to Poly mode the SH-01A can play sequences and arpeggios at the same time. Not sure if Roland planned it this way, but I am so glad that it works. I used the feature on another video that I uploaded today, 'Theme From Baking Bread'. Apologies for things being a bit out of focus here, plus I was using a headset mic attached to the Roland VP770 that I was using as a master keyboard, so occasionally I get vocoded if I speak and play keys at the same time (coz that's what vocoders do!). I also use the 'external clock in' on the SH-01A for the final few minutes. For those that have read this far (both of you), the reverb is an Alesis Midiverb and the delay is my old faithful Boss DE-200. If you want to cut most of the explanatory chat and hear more of the sounds, then dive straight in at around the 5 minute mark. Hope you enjoy it and please give some of my other videos a try. Thank you.

    Maybe a camera for your next expenditure. Very cool. I didn't know you could run the Arp and Seq at the same time. Learned something for my next session! Cheers.

    Beautiful demo! Just ordered my sh-01a, and then bumped into this video - couldn't be more excited to play around with it now.

      Thank you, it's always nice to know that a piece of kit does even more than you had expected. For me, the ability to use sequencer and arpeggiator simultaneously was the deciding factor in me getting one. Until then I had been planning to get the Ju-06a! Enjoy your sh-01a when it arrives.

    Yes, I guess I couldn't do that on my SH-101 because it is monophonic. Great job.

    • @LinkFMMik
      @LinkFMMik  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks. I think that a lot of people assume that the SH01a is monophonic too as it was designed to look and feel much like the old SH101. Whilst the SH01a digital I think that the additional features, including four-note polyphony are great.

      Thank you! I was so impressed with the SH-01a that I eventually bought another! Both will be featured during my live improvised set tomorrow night (23 01 21) via the Lockdown Livestreamers CZcams channel at 11pm GMT. The event starts at 9pm

    Would love to see a remake of this one. What an eye opening tutorial. Where was that vocoding coming from?!

    • @LinkFMMik
      @LinkFMMik  Před 2 lety +2

      Thank you. I was using the headset mic. plugged in to my Roland VP770 for the commentary on this one. I occasionally hit the keys of the VP770 by accident hence the strange vocoded voice-over in places!

    Nice tutorial leading up to the end product. You always seem to come up trumps Mike with your arps and sequences. I'm still getting to grips with my new Beatstep Pro at the mo but this video makes me think about another purchase!

      Thank you. I have recently subbed to your channel; no idea why it's taken me so long. With regard to purchases, I really should stop watching CZcams followed by browsing Ebay!

      Yes, that sequence of events can become quite costly. Thankfully I've yet to regret a purchase. As I mentioned in an earlier post, listening to your uploads about 5 years ago kick-started my musical journey. Maybe a midlife crisis, but it sure beats buying the proverbial Harley Davidson and touring wherever. Your sub is therefore an honour!

    Can someone please explain to me how to get rid of this bug. When I use this synth with a sequencer, each time I stop the sequence, SH1defaults back to the default setting patch (Which is Bank 1 : 1). I've only started to explore this thing. Any help much, much appreciate!!! Thank you!

    • @LinkFMMik
      @LinkFMMik  Před 2 lety +1

      Not sure what to suggest to fix the reset problem but perhaps the following may help? Ensure that you are using the latest firmware for your sh01a (1.07 as at July 2021). Try using panel mode if you are not already. Check the settings in your external sequencer as it could be sending patch/bank control change info when you don’t want it to. I would also recommend downloading the Sunshine Jones manual. Hope you get it sorted. Out if interest what external sequencer are you using? Are you connecting via old fashioned MIDI or usb?

      @@bigdebbie6265 With regard to the RM1X, take a look at page 137 of the RM1X manual (Utilities) and disable program change. For the LFO on the SH01a, the mod slider next to LFO rate slider should do what you are looking for. You can also get the same result by using the right hand side modulation strip/ribbon and setting the level by means of the third tiny slider from the left (labelled ‘mod’). Hope this helps.

      @@LinkFMMik Thank you again so much! I've previously tried program change, unfortunately, to no luck. But Im hoping something interesting might happen, if I do the firmware update. Really appreciate the help!

    why is the 76 there?

    • @LinkFMMik
      @LinkFMMik  Před 2 lety

      The 76 is the beats per minute (bpm) tempo of the sequencer/arpeggiator. Thank you for watching.

    what delay and reverb you used in this?

    • @LinkFMMik
      @LinkFMMik  Před 3 lety +3

      Hi, thanks for watching, the delay is my old Boss DE200 and the reverb is the Alesis Midiverb IV.

      @BTCplusZNNis Před 2 lety

      Can I ask how do you setup your reverb and delay, output roland first to delay and the output delay to reverb or output roland both sequel to delay and reverd, hope you explain. I really do love your movie sounds awesome!!

    Wtf 3:02 when you said when you get something you like press hold. It sounded like a vocoder in your voice!!! ?

    • @LinkFMMik
      @LinkFMMik  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes you are right! I mentioned in the description that the mic that I was using was plugged in via my VP-770 Vocoder. If I accidentally knocked the keys whilst recording the video, a vocoded voice appeared.

      Not one of my best I admit. Also for some reason the sound is slightly out of sync with the video.
