I had an absolutely broken tigrex in the first game. It could solo most anything. I spent so long getting all the genes I wanted for him. This game is gunna be amazing! Though I’m sad I can’t get a duramboros...

you can actually choose where you want to put the gene now?? that'll save us A LOT OF TIME. I remember having to grind Deviljho for God knows how many hours to get that Spread Dragon Breath in the right gene slot.

Hoping the color changing is a possibility in this game, and didn't get removed or busted . I had a thunder Element azure rathalos and due the the thunder all the darker blue scales were turned into a golden color and it looked really good.

I think it will because if you look at Avias (Idk what it's name it was Kayna's velocidrome) the stripes are red which is what velocidrome looks like when it has the fire element. I had a Velocidrome I turned into the fire element in the first game and he got the red stripes after the rite of channeling

It's not possible apparently for even slightly heightened leveled monsties... or at all I think, from what I heard.

With the seemingly ever-changing elements I *think* what's happening is that your Monsties have unlocked filled gene slots, and given that the pre-filled slots typically match the Monstie's base element (or lack of one) that their base element is then being increased to a higher value then your desired element because of the newly active genes.

from what I can tell, your monstie scales with it's natural element, but the element+ genes don't offer scaling, so after a point the element+ genes aren't overpowering the natural element anymore, because the natural bonus has outscaled the genes which are a flat number

Throwback to MST1 when I had an Ivory Lagicrus with Thunder Dbl Fang and a spread thunder breath. As well as a Dragon element Sergios that carried me through the endgame… (and Deviljho of course cause pickle go brrrr)

A question no one is popping and its important, does the color change still exist?
It doesn’t anymore from what I’ve seen!!
It should be because that was a cool mechanic and also because Kayna’s velocidrome has red stripes (which would lead me to believe that the color change is still in)
But yeah it doesn’t look like it’s in from this video (though he did say they were still figuring out everything with changing the element)
I mean images of Dragon Aptonoth hatched from the egg has different color. And look at the thumbnail there's blue patches with the Aptonoth!
A picture is going around of an aptonoth with red markings instead of brown due to dragon element. But it seems monsties can loose the new coloring by leveling up?

By the way, the percentage increase for attack damage is 10% for each of the first 2 bingos in a given category and 5% for every bingo after that.
just so i'm understanding, i'm new to stories, so i have 9 red (fire) genes, that's 8 bingos, so 10% + 5%*7 = 45% increase to fire, and it's not possible for any type of gene to boost beyond that?

To be clear, the bingo bonuses are as follows
Number of Bonus of the same type: Damage Increase
1:110%
2:120%
3:125%
4:130%
5:135%
6:140%
7:145%
8:150%
I am unsure if there are any gene or mechanics that can boost these percentages higher as my knowledge only covers Bingo Bonuses.

Do the Monsties still change color and element depending on the genes they have?
They do but you need a specific gene type for each element.
It's finicky because if the Natural Element overtakes your XL gene(which it most likely will) it will revert back to it's default. Capcom broke something and it's harder to keep the changed element.

Can't really say this is an "Ultimate guide" as you didn't go through testing what skills stack and what skills don't. Like Does Might L stack with Might M, Does Crit XL stack with Crit L, Etc
I would hope they do but things may have changed. Maybe you, Para and 269 could Collab on Does It Stack???
I agree. That's what I want to know. Also, if I have Monstie with Den Protector L, I'm wearing armor with Den Protector M, and a Charm (Necklace) with Den Protector M, do they all add up or is the L dominant and/or does the two M stack?
@@BlueTheInstructor Den Protector only triggers on the killing blow so if your Monstie lands the kill with M it will be less than what you would gain with it on your armor at L. I wouldn't know about the stacking but I could test that quickly myself.
@@BlueTheInstructor DPL and DpM works but it might be bugged the popup said 25% but the Monstie fled anyways(DPL was 15%) I haven't tried 2 Ms yet but I assume same level skills don't stack

For the elemental change did you try putting an active skill on a monster? In the original game I had a tigrex that I wanted to make lightning, however the element only seem to stick after giving it an active skill

The active skill wasn't really a factor in 1, you just had to hit a certain value in the elemental attack or defense. I would bet that it has to do with the genes that unlock at higher levels nudging the original element back into the top slot

Something I found out, is when channeling the same monster, their appearance can change. I channeled 2 brute Tigrex’s and my monsters color changed from orange stripes to red ones. So does that mean channeling the same monster species gives a slight appearance change🤔 because I LOVE my brutes appearance now!!!

How do you know when u have a God Stat rolled monster so you know that's the best one to start your gene splicing on
I believe if it's really stinky/ smelly and the heaviest you can get with the rainbow light show when you pick up the egg it'll have really high stats. Perks you'll need to look for.

All I know is, my strat in in the last game was to boost a monsters best element as well as attack type. Sometimes I’d throw in some juicy bits to give them more versatility, say an elemental attack that covers a weakness(doesn’t always work like Pokémon but typically a monster of say lightning is weak to either ice or water so I’d throw a water type move on a Rath who is weak to lightning). Occasionally I’d just tweak a monster to the point where it used an entirely different element than what it should. In Stories 2, the channeling I want to do the most is convert Gammoth into a monster that uses water attacks, because in monster hunter, one of the monsters I’ve wanted to see the most is just an elephant monster that’s element is water, using it as a high pressurized beam as well as artillery, but still keeping the raw physical strength of an elephant. It could be almost a subspecies of Gammoth, I just want one, and so I’m creating one in Stories 2.
in the lore the monster is "set free" after the gene is given right? havent played mh stories 1 in a long time but thats what i think i remember

How about stacking XL, L, M, and S skills? I'm still not willing to do the science myself :)
honestly doing a build with bingos boosting all 3 attack types aren't super great, it's good for a jack-of-all-trades monsties you plan on just using by default, but more focused builds tailor-made to fight certain monsters will always be stronger, not really important for the story but it's something worth noting when moving to post-game.
Plus given you won't always be able to tell the monstie what to do, would you say its best to focus on bingos that match that monster's preferred attack type, i.e. speed, power or technical?
@@Ryodraco definitely get the bingo type that your monstie uses the most, if it also unlocks a skill with another type of attack, make a bingo for that too, for example: Ivory Lagiacrus is a Power monstie that gets two offensive skills by levelling that are Thunder/Power and Thunder/Speed, so ideally you'd want to make a bingo of Power, Speed and Thunder + whatever gene that increases Attack and Thunder, completely disregarding Techinical attacks, that would be the way to maximize a monstie's damage potential, and ideally you'd have another monstie focuses on Technical attacks to support it.

They do to a degree, I got an Aptonoth in the demo that hatched with Dragon element and while in the overworld it's colours are red and deep burgundy, it's pretty cool, but in battle and in menus the colour revert to normal for some reason? I saw someone say that it's a bug and they could fix it with a day 1 patch
Also I can't level that Aptonoth because even going to level 2 remove the dragon element, which is a bummer

Yep, you also can't release said monster if it's favourited

@@Druid-T note that by canon monsties used to give a gene aren't consumed but get released into the wild. So it makes sense that making them favorited blocks both as the end result would be the same.
It stops you from taking any genes from it, it allows you to put genes in it tho
Some monsters are just so strong in the default that you can't outmatch them

I think you can teach them Power skills, but they will still use Speed basic attacks by default.

Cant change a monstie's direct tendency, but like the other person said, you can give them skills that use those attack types. Breaking dash from a great jaggi can be added to, say, a diablos, giving it a speed skill.
I have monsties from the demo that were hatched with genes with a star on them. I knew they were important for some reason.
i'm assuming once you get the stimulants and progress further you will be able to keep the monstie on the preferred element. seeing as leveling up the aptonoth you've showed will unlock non elemental genes.
Is it possible when an egg hatches and it says +2 fire that increases the Elemental Stats? If Tigrex has 8/10 No Element and 6/10 Fire but you get +2 Fire on an egg hatch, perhaps it turns 6/10 to 8/10?
I need still need to wait 3 more days for my game delivered. I believe to get our monstie high chance to change attributes by rng when we hatch our monstie. You guys notice we got + atk or def on certain elements. We might need to get 3 or more(if that posible?) Atk of our desire elements or i might be completely wrong about it 😝

Yes, he's in. I believe I saw him in the background of one of Arekz' Co-Op Videos, against the Misutsune but I could be wrong. I am 100% sure he made it in, though.

If you're talking about how to increase your max amount, you have to talk the Melynx Palico usually close to your stable, and buy the Stable Blueprint. They increase your max amount of monstie slots in your stables, for a cost of bottle caps (found in everdens)

How do you know which eggs are better in the nests? Or is that fairly random? I know we can use prayer altars, but is there a way to tell BEFORE we pick up an egg?
With the changing element, (still using the aptanoth) could it be that you need an upgraded fire gene or a large gene rather than a medium?

So does changing the monsters primary element only effect the kinship skill? Like if your monstie's primary element in non-elemental but you have a fireball gene on that monstie it can still do a fire attack?

This just came out for ps4 and I'm loving it. But the way these genes work, it's a little discouraging. Like what makes a monster unique at all if they can have any gene and all the stats start off the same. Theoretically,... can't I just get all 5 star monsties and give them all the exact same genes won't they all just be the same monstie just different skins??? I wish there were some exclusive genes for specific mons. I plan on getting into pvp but I feel like everyone Is going to have the same meta build. Is there something in missing???

Some you get from finding chests and completing certain quests, the rest are from the everdens I believe, at a rare chance.

Stacking both would increase both damage from the elemental and the attack type
please help with one question there are an difference between lets say one low rank velocidrome to an high rank velocidrome ? like the high rank one will have more status ?
High rank monsters are much, much stronger than their low rank counterparts(doesnt mean a high rank velocidrome will be as strong as, say, a low rank deviljho though). They also drop better materials(exclusive to high rank), used for upgrading armor/weapons into their + version. A high rank monster retreating doesn't mean better eggs, though, atleast statwise
In short, they are far stronger and far tougher than their low-rank version.

Edit: My only critique, or question is why would anyone want to add another attack type to their monstie? Why not maximize their strengths and use them for the role they were intended, just like in Pokémon, you wouldn’t add physical EV points to a special attacker, because it would be wasting its potential in their stats
