That's great! Good for you. It's interesting because that is a perfect example of our modern problem: we use chemicals to save time, but the saved time often gets squandered on a useless activity that brings no joy, whereas I imagine you enjoyed the act of gardening.

As a science major turned computer engineer, and all around skeptic, I've been very dissatisfied with a seemingly globally orchestrated narrative that has led to an unprecedented attempt at global human orchestration. It seems as though our own ability as individuals to comprehend and react has been entirely replaced by authoritarian directives. It seems unsettling, much like a bad bit of food that upsets the GI. Your disposition toward sane critical analysis has cast a bright light in an otherwise gloomy outlook. When MDs go out of their area of expertise (in this case the area of a paleo botanist or paleo microbiologist and then introduce a microbiologist that is entrenched in the human “micro biome”), they do the discipline a disservice.

I'm sorry but he just reduced his entire philosphy and science to pretending like your body/mind is more or less a car tire, which only goes flat when it fails, due in no part to the nail or screw or tackstrip you just ran over, or the car accident you were just in, or maybe the tire didn't get mounted on the wheel right, or hell maybe the tire was faulty! He's literally saying that disease isn't really disease, it's just your fault for not eating enough organic broccoli! Wow. I mean, go ahead and eat all the organic broccoli you want. It's good stuff. But if he's saying that all of modern medical science and research has missed this essential truth that diseases aren't really diseases, they're just your own body getting upset with you, is going to have to require some EVIDENCE. And I see none. Just this weird list. Followed by wild speculation. Built on more speculation. That's called "building castles in the sky." Doesn't matter how nice that castle looks if it's built on air. And this entire premise is built on this theory that disease and health are mutually exclusive. Healthy people catch diseases all the time. Tell this to the Native Americans who from 1500 to 1800 experienced insanely lethal pandemic after pandemic, because they had not experienced all of Europe's plagues and had built up no genetic immunity. But everything they ate would pass Zach's approval. They only ate organic food. They were literally as healthy as human beings have ever been. There were no pesticides. There were no chemical fertilizers or industrial agriculture or carcinogenic food preservatives. Their gut biomes were perfectly healthy from eating hundreds upon hundreds of different organic plants, seeds, roots, berries, mushrooms, greens, meats, seafood, insects, and so on. And still 50-90% died of chicken pox, smallpox, etc. Howabout this list? What the hell is he trying to say? Read along with me. Allergy is not a disease nor contagious. Why is it here? An allergy is not an indication of a lack of health. A person can be perfectly healthy and be allergic to shrimp or strawberries or whatever. We know many of the causes of cancer: carcinogens and radiation. Cancer doesn't "jump up," it is generally present in the body one or two decades before it kills you. It is not necessarily a failure of health, because cancer cells are just another, misdirected form of cellular growth, and the more healthy you are, the more your cancer will actually THRIVE because it's building cells out of the same nutritional material that the rest of your body does. Maybe he doesn't understand how cancer works. Major depression. So many different causes, like ten or twelve that we know of already, from physical to emotional to psychological trauma, or just getting fired or losing someone close to you or not being happy with your life, or could even be genetically inclined, but Bush wants me to think it's just my fault for not having the right diet and relationship to Mother Nature. So he believes that if I have a perfect relationship to Mother Nature I wouldn't be getting depressed. Gonna have to see some evidence on that. But I'm guessing he will present none, just a wild assertion that kinda sounds nice to me. Obesity is not contagious and is usually caused from lack of activity combined with consumption of junk food. Mystery solved. Get more exercise and eat a lot less junk food. Dementia has known causes, and 2/3's of it can be prevented by maintaining heart and lung health in the 30's, 40's, and 50's. In other words, get some exercise, eat less junk food. Not a secret. Asthma is generally caused and aggravated by a lot of air pollution, ie. modern industry and the poor black and brown people in America who have no choice but to live downwind of pretty nasty smokestacks and Superfund sites but Asthma has nothing to do with what you eat or don't eat. No one knows what causes Autism. Ya cranks. ADD is probably over-diagnosed, but seeing as it's also not contagious nor physically harmful in any way, why is it even on this list? He's lumping together so many ailments with known causes, with a couple with unknown causes, and equivocating those with mental and psychological problems, and equivocating those with serious mental disease. I'm not a doctor but I understand enough from watching House to know that this is total bullcrap, and this guy really doesn't seem to know what he's talking about. It sounds to these ears like he's just inventing his own belief system around a few Michael Pollan books that everyone has already read but if you haven't, just read them. Eat real food, mostly plants. You will be healthier. But you won't be immune to novel viruses, sorry. Strengthening your immune system is great but that doesn't mean diseases don't exist Zach. I agree that industrial agriculture and the capitalism of food has had terrible results! Heart disease, obesity, depression, yes yes yes. I agree that we should find a way to grow our food without pouring poison on the planet, without pesticides and fungicides, if not for humanity's sake then for the sake of the other 2 million species of life we share the planet with! But his philosophy is scientific bullcrap, and the well-documented Native American 16th, 17th and 18th century pandemics prove it, as a case study.
The only thing missing from this discussion is also everything, that is God. The creator of “mother earth” and all of its complexity.

But until you give credit to where it is due (the creator God) the discussion is moot. You don't have to look through a "dark mirror" as he refers to it when you come to know the creator God.
