Thinking back to the 1940/50’s, before modern plumbing and central heating here in the UK, bath night was once or twice a week because of the cost of heating a boiler for hot water…..but that was for us mortals, not wealthy movie stars. Nowadays, missing a daily shower is a very rare occurrence for most of us.
Garbo surprised me. Scandinavians are famously conscious of their personal hygiene.

The fact that any actor could do a good job working with a fellow actor who has personal hygiene issues is amazing to me. It would probably be impossible for me to not make that face that we all make when we can’t stand the smell of something or someone if I had to work closely with someone who reeked. These actors seemed like they had a lack of consideration for others.
