Celebrity homes no one wants to buy
#celebrityhomes #nobodywants #nospoof
The main reason no one wants to buy Falcon Lair is that it was demolished years ago, and it's a vacant lot behind the gate. So there's that.
The name was changed to Gopher Lair.
Hilarious. I love it when these videos are so stupidly created, with lots of bad information. LOL...
Omg thank you! Came here to make tbis exact point lmao 😅
@@loribernardisunwell9663 most of these images don't even belong to the property they are discussing. Most obviously the Clara Bow house which is far from " excluded" and " far away from schools and stores" seeing as how it is on the corner of Hollywood Blvd and Curson Ave.
Thank u..😂😂😂
the fatty arbuckle scandal party didnt happen at his house, it happened at a hotel in San Francisco
It amazes me that these CZcams channels don't do their homework. It shows. Shameful!
You’re right 👍🏻
Yep, old st Francis hotel in Union square.
And the narrator describes the house as a beach bungalow, but the accompanying image is of a rambling tudor.
No one wants to buy these estates because of the restoration cost and probably the property taxes.
I never heard anyone ever say 3 dollars million until this video.
I cracked up
I cracked up
Don't forget the "seventy one two bathrooms" 😂!!! Get a Real Person to Narrate 😢!!!
All kinds of silly sounding audible mistakes here, especially about numbers. Wouldn't have been hard to this right. Sloppy. so kind of lets you know it's not 100% accurate elsewhere too.
Gloria's 'twenty four zero zero zero ' square foot home. LOL
😂😂😂
If there was a dark shadow seen around the fireplace at Falcon's Lair, chances are it was Doris Duke's, after all, she died in the house, Valentino didn't.
She owned the house but seldom lived there, and died in Hawaii.
@@user-rq2es2io8y I'm sorry but Doris Duke did not die in Hawaii. She died at Falcon Lair. Here is what is said from her Wikipedia page: Death
In 1992, at the age of 79, Duke had a facelift. She began trying to walk while she was still heavily medicated and fell, breaking her hip. In January 1993, she underwent surgery for a knee replacement. She was hospitalized from February 2 to April 15. She underwent a second knee surgery in July of that year.
A day after returning home from this second surgery, she had a severe stroke. Doris Duke died at her Falcon Lair home in Los Angeles on October 28, 1993, at the age of 80. The cause was progressive pulmonary edema resulting in cardiac arrest, according to a spokesman.[28][15]
Duke was cremated 24 hours after her death and her executor, Bernard Lafferty, scattered her ashes into the Pacific Ocean as her last will specified.[28] Rumors and accusations swirled after Duke's death, ranging from suicide to murder, and controversy was exacerbated by Duke's habit of regularly changing her last will and testament, but no criminal charges were ever filed.[52]
Arbunkle was ACQUITTED
Arbuckle
But even though acquitted, Arbuckle was shunned by society from then on.
Arbuckle.
Falcon Lair and PickFair were torn down years ago.
Yes but they say the Gate house and other artifacts are still there.
Reported that Falcon Lair is completely gone. Even the sign.
Mostly, old Hollywood homes are bought, demolished, and replaced with a new house! Mary Pickford’s home, Rosemary Clooney’s home, Jimmy Stewart’s home, and even the Sharron Tate murder house have all been demolished and replaced by grand, new houses in their places. Unfortunately, Hollywood has no historical society. Money speaks louder than history in Hollywood!
The Guest house is still there and the garage and a chapel of some kind and the line gated entrance, so the main house/ big house is gone and now they're trying to sell the guest house and the property it sits on because it's said previous owner sectioned that place off.
And just across the way on the other hill sits the site of the former 10050 Cielo Drive. F%$# Manson
Buster Keaton's Italian Villa is definitely NOT falling apart. I was there nearly 25 years ago when it was bought and beginning to be restored. I went to a dinner afterwards, it was restored and sold. I have never heard of underground tunnels. He had a hidden movie screen , and remnants of projectors upstairs, but it's most certainly restored and lived in, there is even a new house built next door, sadly blocking the view of it.
Whoever made this video doesn’t know anything
There's a lot of inaccuracies in this video. It's a shame someone didn't do their research correctly, because the subject is very interesting.
Pia Zadora bought Pickfair and ripped it down.
Falcon Lair was demolished fully in 2006.
Fatty Arbuckle hated that name, he requested people called him by his correct name - Roscoe. Virginia Rappe was allegedly assaulted in a San Francisco hotel, not in Roscoe Arbuckles home.
Agree. I can’t watch it any further, and it gets “no thumbs”
If I could afford it, I would absolutely buy the house with the hidden rooms and secret passageways.
We should all get together with our money and buy it we could all probably live there without seeing eachother
@@peggymccabe5090😁
I really agree to that, but we had a Microsoft. Range.
Great place to hoard food and hide from criminals.
@@peggymccabe5090 🤣🤣🤣 excellent
So all of these homes have the same problem - they’re old and the upkeep is too expensive.
don't forget there are all kinds of ghosts hanging out in these places.
And, they’re haunted.
I don't buy into the ghost theory so much - I can probably get along with ghosts- but I couldn't get along with maintenance costs and headaches...when I was younger I shrugged away such practical concerns, but in my life since, experience with 2 old home renovations and im no longer intrigued with taking on that kind of project.
Even with the best people to deal with all the problems inside and behind the walls of 100+ year old houses.
And even if money were no object, there's the emotional toll a project like that takes--
We felt like we were living in the movie The Money Pit.
But they spend millions building new homes now 🥺
@@magpieone9390 They could be turned into private resorts or hotel for Corporate Executive's for CEO'S,Board members and Super rich that would like these expansive residence's.
Would love to be haunted by Rudolf Valentino.....if I believed in such things.
ME TOO! ME TOO! ❤❤❤
demons imitate the dead
❤😊❤
People are not Scared 😱 of the Ghost 👻 but, the Price 😵💫😬
Exactly!! 💯🤣
Such a shame these magnificent homes are just too expensive to retore and maintain but I would love to see these beautiful old homes love old Hollywood the stars were considered a type of American royalty
I admire the culture of Europe, where old buildings are valued and maintained DESPITE the cost. That is why their cities have the wonderful ambience that we will never have here in the U.S. In Germany, the government forgoes taxing income that is spent to refurbish the old timberframe buildings that give cities their wonderful character. As a result, the citizens have enormous pride in the architecture which attracts tourists from around the world. Even if the federal government would not support such tax breaks, a state like California could easily do it and then reap the rewards in the form of the increased tax revenue generated from the increased tourism.
In the U.S. we are plagued with the notion of going with newer and cheaper and have very little to show for it that will stand the test of time. Indeed, it is a shame.
Clara Bow’s house had.6 bedrooms and “seventy-one two” bathrooms. Surely a one of a kind property!
Misprint error.
@@user-rq2es2io8y Misspoken error.
😂
If I had the money I would by anyone of those homes and do very little to chance what they were.
Wow, so much wrong information. The home they talk about for Gloria Swanson isn't even in Beverly Hills, it's in New Jersey. Also Roscoe Arbuckle and Norma Talmadge homes aren't located in Beverly Hills, they're in Los Angeles by USC.
It is hard to understand some of the reasons this video states some houses in this video are for sale or nobody wishes to buy them. Some of these former houses are not even there anymore.
I cant believe that these houses wont sell because they are reported to be haunted. I know many people who would love to buy a haunted house. Its because the houses are old (possible expensive updates), out of the way, and expensive to maintain that make them unsalable.
Some of the old stars houses could be turned into luxurious hotels for people who wish to remove themselves from the hustle and bustle of the city for a few days with access to the facilities on the grounds , while staying in a restored stars house , plus you have the guest houses for the staff on-site if they are required to work late .
They are historically worthy. The Golden Age of Hollywood is a lost treasure. We don't need cookie cutter rows. If I ever hit a lottery. I would get one of them. The whole thing is wonderful. Jean Harlow - I'd keep it exactly as is. Update the electrical system -
It is so true....to me, the architecture should be preserved as stringently if not more than any art museum painting, geeeesh - it's a no brainer -
Seventy one two bathrooms? Wow! Clara Bow that was excessive
I came to comment on that too 😂!!! They need to hire a Real Person to Narrate 😢!!! (Who can also read 😮!!!)
Indeed, it is 7 1/2 bathrooms!
Nonsense. Some error. Probably seven. Biltmore mansion, the biggest private home in the USA, has 43 bathrooms.
CDs were not a thing in Gloria Swanson' day.
I picked up on that
Could have happened tho. CDs were released in 1982 and Gloria didn’t pass away until 1983.
@@juliezaro8104 They became mainstream in 1985. I know, I have a few still from that year as I was a Senior in HS.
It's not that no one wants them. It's probably because of the taxes in California and the upkeep to maintain the house is very expensive.
Main problem with any ancient home (once celeb owned or not) is that they're virtually guaranteed to have their plumbing and electric out of date and falling apart. Before sale to any party, by law all homes must be up to snuff as per CURRENT modern standards. That's why new electrical and water guts prices often exceed whatever was being asked for the home shell in the first place.
Exactly.
All these places should be tourist attractions not torn down
Falcon Liar is demolished, Pickfair is demolished. Know what you’re talking about please.
The one that is truly haunted is the one that was owned by Antonio Moreno & his wife Daisy Canfield Moreno. Scared the My Chemical Romance band members so badly they only spent one night at the mansion. I think they were filming a music video. At any rate they fled.
Daisy missed a turn in her jazzy sports car & the heiress was no more.
Clara Bow actually lived in a small house with a caregiver, her husband Rex Bell lived near Sparks Nevada with their two sons & his girlfriend. He led the search party to the plane crash that killed Carole Lombard amount others.
I'd love to live in a haunted one. Imagine hearing 20s jazz playing, that wouldn't scare me, it'd be like time travel. I'd dance to it until it stopped!
@@Foggy_Morning What if the music never stopped? Playing the same song over & over & over again 24 hours a day. Invaded your every woken hour through your sleep slipping into your dreams.
@@Foggy_Morning you know what they say - be careful what you wish for 😱
It's a shame they couldn't make museums out of these houses.
If I was a real estate developer, I'd buy these mansions and make them into hotels/ bed and breakfasts. Even if haunted some people are drawn to that kind of thing.
Plus you could let people pay to have weddings or parties.
BevHills has strict zoning laws, and that would not be allowed, happily.
@@user-rq2es2io8y so it would be allowed unhappily?
Mary Pickford was a distant relative. I would have loved to have saved her home.
Clara Bose Retreat is one block north of Santa Monica Bv, right in the middle of Beverly Hills surrounded by houses. Not isolated in the least.
While Valentino's home has actually been torn down, there is Valentino's first apartment in LA that still exists. Its closed off and in tatters, but if I had a few milllion I'd buy and restore it. Its from the 20s and had indoor plumbing, was actually a 2bth 2bdrm that he shared with another actor.
If you search Valentinos first apartment you'll get a channel called Jordan The Lion and he does a great tour of the apartment.
Lots of people want to buy haunted houses. This video is funny. So badly constructed. LOL...
I love the old homes. I’d buy one. Usually the asking is too high because the LAND is worth more than house. Plus, yearly property taxes too high. Now that Other living buildings ADU’s in CA can be put on land w/o subdividing….they might sell better.
Clara's mansion has "seventy one two" bathrooms, which is a lot of toilets! The scandal that ended Arbuckle's career took place at the St. Francis hotel in San Francisco, not in his home. Gloria's mansion is large; it's "twenty four zero zero zero square foot" and she was (probably) the first person to have CDs. At least they had some interesting photos of Buster Keaton as well as his sister-in-law Norma Talmadge.
So now according to the Pickfair story, we know that ghosts evidently can't haunt rubble since Pia Zadora decided that demolition was the way to get rid of spirits (after telling people demolition was done because of termites.)
Spirits won't hurt you.
3 dollars million - who says that!
A bot might.
british ppl
I would like to own, restore and live in the Lon Chaney home.
All haunted. ? Come on that’s nuts
demons imitate the dead
In Ca if you leave one wall standing on a remodel you keep your old tax base .It is the strangest thing to see a whole house torn down except one wall or even just a few studs or a fireplace.
You kept showing photos of Lon Chaney Jr. the son of Lon Chaney throughout the section on Lon Chaney Sr.
The Gloria Swanson estate shown with the double staircase is in Englewood, NJ, not Beverly Hills.
Also, where this video makes reference to Jean Harlow's 'home', the photographs shown come from 4 different houses:
The first is 512 N Palm Dr, which was her house when she died (she lived there and also with William Powell at his Regency-style home located at 809 N Hillcrest Dr, a stunning home with an incredible pool).
The second is located at 214 South Beverly Glen, which was more Mama Jean's house.
The Tudor is located at 1353 Club View Dr.
The last is the Paul Bern house at 9820 Easton Dr.
She also lived at 6613 Whitley Terrace, 618 N Linden Dr (the house she shared with her first husband as a teenager), 300 N Maple Dr, 152 Peck Dr, 1302 N La Brea Ave, and the Chateau Marmont Hotel.
Miss information, a jumbled mess
Most of the house's
We're torn down
Years ago
For their property values
*were
It is a shame that the motion picture association cannot save these homes as museums.
Kind of makes ya wonder why the historical society of Hollywood doesn't do something to preserve these houses
20:24 The Norma Talmadge house at 649 West Adams Boulevard, is part of the Mount Saint Mary's University, Doheny campus.
Falcon lair is directly off Cielo dr...directly across the canyon you can see the parking area of the former Tate property
three dollars million? who does these robot voices .
Who says "Three dollars million?"
No one
I’d prefer the old buildings but renovate it to be more energy efficient
I love the idea of an old house with secret passages and a possible ghost not a fan of modern houses my current property is very old and was built around 1911 according to ancestry if I had money to own one of these houses would have transport get to where I needed to go for the chance to live in such a cool house playing hide and seek with my kids would be cool
CDs had limited availability right before Gloria died. Hardly likely she was playing them. Records probably
It always saddens me to hear/see a beautiful old home die! Such character, quality and unique they are compared to houses built of dry wall!! Not to mention, those built today are cheap and they all look alike. Tearing down such beautiful history should be against the law!!
Quit saying every house 🏠 is haunted. It sounds stupid and not very original.
Before you put up your video, it's highly suggested you get someone to edit your content for errors - of which there are many here. Here's just a few errors: Falcon Lair and Pickfair were razed years ago. Learn the difference between the photos of Lon Chaney, Jr. and Lon Chaney, Sr., etc., et al.
Lon Chaney Jr and Lon Chaney Sr are not the same person and yet, both of their photos are being shown. Chaney Sr owned the mansion in question.
I loved the segments where you showed the home interior. It’s very disappointing not to see the interior or get a really good understanding of the exterior when the interior was not available.
House being haunted is such a bullshit
Some of those pictures were of lon Chaney Jr
Noone wants to buy them because anything they did to the property would be such a pain with the public
U could buy the house and have a history tour it will pay for itself slow start but business is business ❤
They are zoned R 1 so no you could not because the people who live around the house would be annoyed as they paid a lot to live there too.
What's the big deal about a house being haunted? I grew up in a house that had a couple of ghosts and nothing "bad" ever happened. My grandma told us "It's not the dead you have to worry about, it's the living."
CDs? I'm confused.
We're all confused
He should have said records!@ No CD's back then...🫣
The residence of Lon Chaney, Sr was razed and replaced with another structure in 1987.
For clarification, Lon Chaney SR aka Man of a thousand faces NEVER played the wolfman or the mummy! He died waaaaaay before those films were made! Those roles were played by his SON Lon Chaney JR. Did this person even try to thoroughly check their facts, or did they just typed in ‘Lon Chaney pictures’ in google search and used those?
Dont know what to say about this video, other than it was a "well-intended" Homage to the Old Hollywood but full of Inaccuracies / Anachronisms with Images of different Houses that the stars owned at different periods in their Career Heyday. Jean Harlow owned two completely different houses before dying in 1937. I wonder will happen to the Homes of many of today's Indulgent Film and Pop Music stars....? I hope the video will inspire viewers to investigate the Histories and films of some of the stars like the superb Norma Talmadge, one the truly great actresses of silent era. I was bowled over my the "naturalism" of her performances.
Taking into consideration all the obvious challenges of wanting such large mansions. The cost, upkeep and maintenance. If money were not the issue, I would prefer not to buy any of them. Why? Because I am pureist if you will. The only old Hollywood mansion I'd want is one that has never been changed or remodeled. It would have to remain compleatly untouched. Will never understand this desire to change and remodel these old Masters of architecture to suit modern styles. Of course you could update it for modern living without altering its outward and inward details. Why buy a beautiful 1920's Hollywood mansion just to be able to say "I own Buster Keaton's old house." When you plan to deface it by changing it? If you were an art collector buy the "Venus" just to attach a new arm on to it? Am all for restoration and maintenance, but respect the original beauty.
How sad. These places are lovely.
Nothing would stop me from buying any of these houses, honestly I’d be honoured to own and live in any of the stunningly beautiful properties.
I have no idea why Fatty’s home is called a bungalow as a home with that name has everything is on a single level
Maybe Fatty's home is a "super-bungalow" with hidden levels!
@@NOSPOOF they weren’t hidden, they were shown on the video, it’s got a ground floor and an upper level
There probably was some sarcasm involved.
What led to his downfall was a drunken woman dying during a party and blackmail attempt, but that was in a hotel in San Fran, not in any home Arbuckle owned.
When was this made? Valentino's house was leveled years ago, smh.
My favourite is definitely the Swanson estate.... Sighhh!
I would live in any of the beautiful older homes.
I would live with Valentino's ghost 👻
If I had the money, I wouldn't care about the upkeep.
It's probably because they are grossly overpriced....
Beauiful homes I'm sure someone will buy them and do them up
Pia Zadora and her rich husband bought Pickfair in 1988 and tore it down.
Marilyn Monroe's🌹 last home, is under threat!!!.....PLEASE DON'T let MM's home be demolished!!!😥🥀😥🥀😥🥀
Just think how much money California can make if they redo these homes and use them as Bed and Breakfast. There are many people who would like to spend a weekend in them.
It’s so funny how he uses the word ”ancient” about houses a hundred years old.
I have been in castles from the 1100’ s…. temples from antiquity and tombs from the bronze age.
These houses are historical but i would refer to them as ”vintage” not ”ancient”.
This is true. Lot of celebrities didn’t lived there very long. Grand homes and mansions everywhere is hard to sell including lot are abandoned too. Can you afford housekeeping? Landscaping? Repairs? And lot of furnishings and arts too. Try over 3,000 square foot house would be sufficient.
Some of you photos don’t align with the building or person. For one; you show a picture of Lon Chaney Jr., Lon Chaney’s son for Lon Chaney.
Whoever made this video looks like they rushed to put it together this person shouldn’t even have a CZcams page
Let's see, electric wiring of the past, and lead pipe plumbing, would keep me away. Rewiring is expensive, and pulling out the lead piping, would be even more expensive.
Add to that, these homes are in a state that values criminals, more than law abiding citizens. I wouldn't visit, let alone live there, and less, buy a home there. Just to make repairs, even minor, takes thousands of dollars for permits, and that says nothing about the taxes people pay to live there, if one has any money.
You have no idea about Westside LA. Don't repeat political nonsense propaganda unless youve lived there at least a decade!
So true. Communist California actually protects criminal squatters.
What a flawed badly researched video this is! Wrong information, wrong photos! And who wrote the script a teenager? Seriously learn how to write better and research the correct information! How many of the subs did you buy too!
Most CZcams videos are messed up 😂
a lot of people with the money probably want a brand spanking new house & they might not appreciate the oldies.
3:28 thats Lon Chaney Jr., not Sr.
Haunted houses? come on, give me a break.
1:25 $3.00 Dollars million ? ...huh
Eventually these historic homes once belong two famous movie stars will be demolished within the next 50 years from now!
How sad!
Where the hell are you getting your information? The Falcon Lair home of Rudolph Valentino was tore down years ago because the new highway went thru it! All that is left is the stables and a servant quarters which is what can be seen!
I would never buy the nasty modern house over the beauty of old Hollywood
Sorry if you like modern homes, I’m not attacking people.
3 dollars million did anybody listen to this before putting it out here
Douglas Fairbanks died early, and widow Mary Pickford did not take care of Pickfair. It would have cost far more to refurbish than to demolish it. The house now at 1000 Summit Road is not Pickfair.
Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks divorced and she lived at Pickfair with her second husband Buddy Rogers until she died.
8:00 - Ah duh! A little jump scare for ya!
How many people clean up the house weekly
I wouldn’t care if it is haunted. Than it won’t be lonely
Don't Developers just buy them and tear them down?
Every house haunted…?
Lon Chaney's house but I also see Lon Chaney Jr. , they keep showing
