200ah LiFePo4 Air Conditioning Capacity Test - Redodo battery

  • How much air conditioning can a 12v 200ah LiFePo4 provide? In this video, I test and review the Redodo 200ah LiFePo4 deep cycle off grid lithium ion battery for solar power and renewable energy applications. After charging from 4 100 watt solar panels outside, the AC will run non-stop for the duration of the test. Of course the test was designed to deliberately drain the battery, with careful use, the air conditioner could run much longer.
    One of the most important aspects of any drop-in LiFePo4 12v battery is whether its capacity meets advertised specifications. Some do not. Without a full discharge test, it's impossible to verify manufacturer amp hour capacity claims. I designed a test to nearly completely discharge this 200ah LiFePo4 battery while operating a realistic and real-world load (5000btu air conditioner) without any assistance from solar charging. This simulated cloud conditions or overnight use under heavy loads.
    Over voltage protection is also very important. While testing the Redodo battery I deliberately allowed the terminal voltage to rise too high while charging. This confirmed the OVP works as advertised, disconnecting the battery terminals internally to prevent further harm to the battery. Although I hate doing over-voltage charging tests, there is no other way to confirm the capability exists.
    If you are interested in the Redodo 200ah LiFePo4 battery, here is a link and discount code. I don't get any commissions for sales, and simply review the product as-is.

    FYI: The air conditioner ran for 5 hours non-stop, and the compressor did not cycle during the test

      That's a long time running the air conditioner without the solar panels and controller connected impressive! I just ordered a 180ah battery for my system so I'm curious to see how long will it run my appliances mini fridge also

      I will run 2 in parallel eventually that's 360ah with 700watts of solar panels

    • @solarpoweredge
      @solarpoweredge  Před 6 dny +2

      @gsrjaycee4521 Yes! And if the AC is turned down some and add a few 100w solar panels, probably could get through the entire day. I'm sure it will run your fridge very well

    My old style manual Frigidaire AC uses 400w max and with the thermostat set properly in Louisiana I can run the AC 15 to 22 hours from a fully charged 300ah battery. I use a watt meter to keep track of usage from the inverter.

      @solarpoweredge  Před 2 měsíci +4

      @baneverything5580 Good stuff. Last 2 days the AC ran nonstop, it is super hot. Need to get some more solar panels to feed it

      @@solarpoweredge I use a 20 amp LiFeP04 charger and top it off before storms. If nothing happens I drain about 500 wh from it and store it. I used to store it at 80% but got caught off guard too many times. I need to get another battery. Worried about hurricanes. We got slammed twice here in 2020. I have solar but slightly less than 6 hours of full sun on this lot. A clear day is rare here though until summer so it usually works well enough for emergency air conditioning. I use power stations for everything else.
      I have a cheap 2-stroke generator and it costs a fortune to run because of the oil. I don`t have a car and I` m not depending on anyone but ME ever again! My ignorant relatives nearby ridiculed me for getting my batteries and solar after hurricane Laura but they abandoned me here after the storm for weeks! Well guess who has electricity now and who doesn`t when the power goes off when it`s over 100 degrees?

      @@solarpoweredge I found 8 gauge MC4 cables. With 10 gauge I couldn`t get the charge rate up to 400w. I need to test my new ones but we`ve had rain rain rain.

      @solarpoweredge  Před 2 měsíci +2

      @baneverything5580 That works. Sounds like you will have electricity. Smart to have solar and batteries. Wish more people would prep for these storms. Solar generators and power stations make it so easy. Every household should have solar for emergencies. A couple 100 watt panels keeps the lights on.
      A long time ago I finally bought a small generator... but yeah worrying about gas, changing the oil every 24 hours is major fun. It's basically a "backup to the backup".

      @baneverything5580 I think all of mine are 10 and 12. If I see a good deal I will upgrade. Solar users can never have too many cables I say.

    It would be interesting to measure if the battery or inverter were getting warm. If they do then moving them outside the space you are cooling would help.

    Good honest test.
    How hot was it during the test and are you in a location with high humidity?

    • @solarpoweredge
      @solarpoweredge  Před 2 měsíci +2

      @Ulbre Thank you sir... humidity was pretty high and towards the middle of the test, it was about 90F outside. That's why the AC was using about 450w (500w~ total as there is a loss). Also the compressor ran non-stop on purpose, dial turned all the way up to stress the battery

    maybe I missed it, but what was the total run time you got out of the battery? I roughly calculated about 4 hours total does that sounds correct? Did the air conditioner run the whole time? or did it cycle on and off? thanks for posting.

    i should have gotten one 12.8 v 200ah rather than two 12.8v 100ah bateries.
    having trouble finding information how to connect renogy 700watt inverter, 250amp fuse and lion energy 400watt solar charge controller. im supposed to connect one positive cable from each to one battery and the negative cables to the other battery?
    do you have a video how to connect two batteries in parallel with my setup?

    • @solarpoweredge
      @solarpoweredge  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @user-rp1vu1gk5u Hello, you can still use the 100ah batteries. Just find 2 short cables (red and black to prevent confusion).
      Connect the positive (red +) terminals on each battery to each other. And do the same with the negative (black -) terminals. Both batteries will now act like one 200ah battery.
      Unfortunately I don't have a video about this, but if you search on YT I am sure somebody already made one. Anyway I hope this comment helps you at least some :)

    So how many hours did the A/C unit run on the battery to one percent? It was unclear, some of the nomenclature I did not fully understand?

    • @solarpoweredge
      @solarpoweredge  Před 2 měsíci +1

      @cryptowolf-zf3fs Hello, the AC ran for 5 hours with the temperature dial on maximum (AC compressor did not turn off during the whole test). The battery was not charging during the test. 5hrs x 500w is 2.5kW/h is almost the same as the rated battery capacity, so it performed as expected

    Where did you get the short jumpers from the battery terminal to the shunt and fuse??

      @bloodstainedboots4476 Those are bus bars, designed to fit CALB 100ah cells. Similar bus bars are available for various battery types, just need to pay attention to their size as the pictures can be a bit tricky when shopping for them.
