    Thanks! I'm working on a '86 mk2 Gti now, just getting it back up and running on the 8-valve, to sort out the chassis, brakes, and such, but long-term plans are either a 20vt, or a 07k, so this was super-helpful!

    Good stuff to see someone putting up good mk2 20vt content! I've got a 20vt project I need to resurrect myself, it's good to know I chose the perfect front mount setup! I look forward to more videos!

      I'm looking at sorting out the shifter setup and the servo and master cylinder next, so any advise or part numbers for the best setup for those would be greatly appreciated!

      @@SilverDanification Shifter wise go for the later type shifter tower and selector, a lot better than the early mk4 ones which are the same as in the mk3. Use a Seat 6K2 master cylinder or Ford Focus mk1, and then the Passat B3/Rado 16v/G60 front bracket.

    How about using a PU Motor Mount?
    There are quite some available for the mk3!
    You could use it in the mk2 with that passat front bar!

    • @RestoDesignsnando
      @RestoDesignsnando  Před 3 lety

      Yep totally, the Passat B4 front cross bar with the mk3 mount is the way to go.

    What about the rear mount, the one on the engine side. Orginal mk2?

    • @RestoDesignsnando
      @RestoDesignsnando  Před 3 lety +1

      Funny you ask, I should have stated that, the Grey mk2 has all mk2 subframe and mounts. And the Blue mk2 has mk3 subframe and mounts, it makes zero difference as seen in the video. Some say the engine sits lower, or different angle.

    Does is need to be a crossmember of a passat vr6 or will one of a 1.8 also do the job? And how about a crossmember from a passat 35i 1.8 ?

    • @RestoDesignsnando
      @RestoDesignsnando  Před 2 lety +1

      Any Passat B4 crossmember are the same apart from the B4 VR6, which you'll need if you are doing a VR6. The Passat 35i / B3 is no good, same as mk2 one.

  • @J.F.K.O

    hey mate. i had to watch your video a couple of times before i could see the difference between mk2 style and b4 style. there are a bunch of "b4" crossmembers for sale that are not b4 :P but i will just have to go to the nearby junkyards and see what they have.
    Just out if interest could you share some info to the different rear engine mounts as well? you know the aluminium part behind the engine if you have some on hand ofc. maybe make a video of that.
    I have an ahu mtdi in my mk2 LHD with mk2 rear subframe and the mk2 td mount i've gathered that is the "short" one, but after i changed to the tdi gearbox as well 02a all of the mounts had to be forced together, and the left driveshaft bolts are really close to the gearbox mount. As if there is something else that has to be changed, i have read up on a lot of forums with a bunch of parts numbers, but i dont really understand which is right for my car because most on those forums run 1.8t. i have found a couple of those with the 357199354 parts number for reasonable money. Do you know it that is the correct one for my application? so a "long" mount. and another question if i buy one of the "long" ones and install will i have to change the front one as well. i will be looking for a b4 front crossmember but until i find one, will it still work with my mk2 td front crossmember and mk2 td front mount
    Anyway thanks in advance for any help you can give and have a nice weekend

    • @RestoDesignsnando
      @RestoDesignsnando  Před 3 lety

      ok I'll try to help here, one thing I totally forgot to say in the video is that the Gray mk2 is full mk2 subframe and 3 bolt style rear engine bracket and the Blue mk2 has mk3 subframe with mk3 single bolt style rear bracket yet with a same B3 front engine bracket and standard mk2 cross member the engines are in the same angle and position, people say the mk2 & mk3 subframes/bracket mount the engine in different position, but it is not the case as seen in the video. What front bracket are you using with your 02A gearbox? the mk3 one or the B3 Corrado one? If it's the mk3 one, then that is what is putting pressure on the other rear mounts when trying to fit them on.

    • @RestoDesignsnando
      @RestoDesignsnando  Před 3 lety

      I've had loads of the mk3 style rear engine brackets with different part numbers and I can't see any different by looking at them side by side, but I haven't tested them to see if there is a difference in the engine bay.

      @@RestoDesignsnando okay thanks for clarifying that, i was scratching my head about the rear ones coming in different lengths. But i actually think i managed to install the 020 front bracket. one of the bolt holes didn't match on it. not the ones that go through the starter though, i managed to loose the one from the mk3 the engine and tranny came from. but ill just be looking for a b4 on the junkyards around. im assuming that if i find one with both the front crossframe and front engine mount that that will fit. One of the reasons i asked was that after installing it, the gearbox mount insta died and the driveshaft bolts started to rub on the brand new subframe i fitted, i then thought it was the driveshafts being too long they sure were tight to fit and it only did it while turning right or on a bumpy road. but after changing them to shorter ones it didn't fix the problem, turned out to be the 1 year old gearbox mount

      @@RestoDesignsnando okay i found some comparison pics on a russian forum the guy had 5 different rear mounts on the photo and the two single bolt mk3 style ones he had were a bit longer than the two of the "short" 3 bolts ones on the photo he then also had one long 3 bolt on the photo. from looking at the photo the 1 hole mk3 ones look 1-2 cm longer than the short 3 bolt and the 3 bolt long one look 2-2.5 cm longer than the short ones. but sadly it's all in russian and google translate is bubbish:P

      Update i found a b3 front mount at the local junkyard so the Corrado style one as well. i took the old one out and the engine moved a good 1-2 cm forward as soon as the bolts were loose. i then put the b3 one on, and everything lined up perfect i didn't even have to pry with a crowbar to get the tranny mount on :P and the spacing between the cv joint bolts and the rear sub frame looks a lot better

    Great video! I have a swapped 1Z in MKII, and it's on all MKII mounts, subframe and front frame- thus vibrating a lot in the colder weather. So I'm preparing MKIII frame and Toledo MKI TDI front frame (I velive same as on Passat B4?) and planing to buy all Febi Bilstein to try to delete the vibrations. Do you think it will work?
    On my original GTI 16V KR MKII I'm doing an ABF swap from Seat Ibiza Cupra, and planing to use that Ibiza frame (looks the same like MKIII?) and again Toledo MKI front frame with all Vibra technics mounts. Is there anything else to watch out before buying those mounts?

    • @RestoDesignsnando
      @RestoDesignsnando  Před 2 lety

      Thank you friend, the TDI rear engine mount will help with vibrations. Oh the mk2 16v the Seat Ibiza sub frame with work, it's the same as the mk3 Golf, I like those sub frames over the mk2, I will be doing a 'From the roots up" build mk2 ABF and covering everything step by step, coming soon.

    Quick question for you, as I'm finding conflicting information searching online: for a lhd mk2 swapping a 20vt with an 02J trans, what other mounts do I need to use (besides the b4 front lower crosssmember and mk3 front mount in this video.). Thanks in advance!!!!

    I'm currently doing a G60 swap in my 1.6 Golf mk2 and thought i could re use the standard mk2 cross member.
    Will it work if i use the stock cross member and a mk3 mount for example?

    • @RestoDesignsnando
      @RestoDesignsnando  Před 3 lety

      Yes you can use the mk3 bracket as many others have, maybe due to thinking it's the only option open to them, as a minimum the Rado/Passat B3 bracket is best. Using the mk3 one engine does sit at a slightly odd angle and towards the bulkhead. On a G60 you'll be ok, but as shown in this video and the video before, on 20V's it does become an issue with the master cylinder. If you are RHD.
