Gone is the 2.0 16V with 02S 6 speed gearbox and in it's place I dropping in a light weight E111 small block 1.4 engine from the Golf mk3 ABD 60hp, This engine looks the same as the mk2 1.3 55hp motor, but this 1400s build has the 3F Muti point injection inlet manifold, dbilas 272º cam and standalone k-date ECU. My aim is 100hp and hopefully a lot of fun to drive due small high rev motor and a drop in weight of some 50-60kg over the front wheels.

Where you get the centre console bit with two pockets and ash tray? I want one. If you have for sale ?
man watching your videos always inspires me to go to the garage and do something , almost have the abf ready to put it back in the audi and preparing my first car from 18 yeas ago a 97 5door ibiza 1.4 aex also planing to abf swap it
Cool little project! Love the minimal center console look.
Thank you mate 👍🏼
Actually pretty cool project you are doing 😊👍👍👍
Thanks a lot.
Not possible, is not to easy to get in.

I bought one of these billet mounts from "blackforest Industries" for my 1.6 Jetta diesel. The vibration was massive and it ended up cutting the bolt, probably due slight push of torque shortly after. The bolt´s threads were not stripped though. It just broke the bolt and it´s still stuck inside... I had to go back to the old rubber hydraulic/solid front mount...
So how do the smaller orings come out and the brass seat?

Thans 👍🏼
Okay wtf how is it so simple. Might just remove all the windows to fix all the rust and tint att the same time haha
Yep it isn't too bad of a job, if you can get a mate to help especially with the front screen will make life that bit easier.
great video! i have a ce1 and i want to keep it as original as possible, clean the harness a bit and that..! mine had some weird and bad fixes like the one you have on the trunk xD
Hi there! I have renewed the whole heater system and I'm having troubles putting again the left side air pipe, it goes above the steering column and looks like I cannot put it back if I don't take the column out, it's that right? Can I unscrew only the 2 upper screws and then try to fit it?
Nice to see the G60 get some love. I had a yellow 90' in back in 1992. Had a similar engine set up. Although not the VR6 which needs no words as far as being special, the G60 has very distinctive sound like a WW2 propler fighter coming from the G ladder. It has it's own specialness.
Yes the G60 has that very unique sound. 👍🏼
Do you have the base map available? As I am working on the same thing
Hello ,i am preparing an 8V 2.0 engine CIS system CR about 10:1 aprox ,i was wondering if use a knock box like the one you used ,do you have a wiring diagram/ and or manual ? I don’t really understand how the knock box can control the timing ,does the knock box worked with that carbs ? Nice car ,nice job.
Hi there, yes I can't see why you couldn't use this ECU on a 8V k-jet motor, will not work on a KE-jet motor. It really is as easy as I've shown in the video, Green Wire to coil, black & black/white wires also to coil, long brown to earth on battery, other brown wire earth to the engine block, 3 pin plug to the distributor, blue/white wire(I think?) is a coolant temp sensor and then a vacuum pipe to the inlet manifold. It's not a knock box, at has a 8x8 or 6x6 I can't remember spark table, rpm vs load. Rpm taken from the 4 window hall sensor in the distributor and load taken from the inlet manifold pressure. The coolant temp wire will be to advance spark when the engine and cold and when engine goes over 100Cº it would retard spark.
@@RestoDesignsnando the one I have has a knock sensor wire (Green wire) that It Is connected to the BLOCK knock sensor ,I am not sure if It Is the same ECU.
@@rdperformance8697 no it seems you have KE-jet, does your car have a cat?
@@RestoDesignsnando my car Is a 1.8 JH (LIKE DX in europe)GTI MK1 from USA same CIS system from the european GTI Mk1
Where is a video of a test drive? 😕 And it also needs OCC ASAP. Great work as usual, and those grey brakelines are like a finger in my eye... Are you happy with the rear brake resistors?
Thank you, yes I'll put up a short driving video next Sunday, from the driving I've done in it, it seems totally normal, which is a good thing compared to how it was.
thats the very early dash isnt it, got to be very rare now especially in a jetta?
This is the later type dash, I think the car is a 1980/1981 model. The early dash I think is 78. But still yes a two door Jetta coupe is a rare beast.
CZcams is "full" of 1.8t and vr6 swaps.. this is project is way more interesting 😎👌
Thank you 👍🏼 hoping to have part 2 coming out very soon.
Great work and really nice project car 👍💪
Thank you, yes this is a really nice car.
I can see u have loads of experience on them rear beam bushes😅
Thank you mate, yes I really dislike doing mk2.mk3 rear beam bushes. hahaha
Nice work. I love that you pay attention to the details and keeping it clean and looking more period correct. I learned to drive stick in a red MK1 Jetta at 13 years old. This car brings back good memories for me. Thanks again for the early watercooled content. I love all the MK2, MK3, Mk1 and E30 content you put out.
Thank you mate, 👍🏼
sorry i'm still learning, so you got an ECU just for ignition timing? did you only keep the wiring for the ignition system and deleted every other wire, or does that ECU only job is ignition and theres nothing else?
Yes, he is using the ignition side of a ECU from a mechanical fuel injected model. The mechanical FI was pretty basic and only had a few other components to use. Eliminating the old points type distributor makes this easier to service and repair now and in the future.
Yes it is like davidpaker has stated, the Golf mk2 16V has a basic ignition only ECU, using a map sensor, 4 window hall sensor for rpm and a coolant temp, it's a good reliable system.
@@davidparker9676 yes totally right 👍🏼
I took the turbo off my b5 Passat and it kicked my ass in every turn
My indicator lever got loose, so I was looking for a steering column disassembly video, and you put me onto something I didn't realise was happening! I honestly can't imagine how my golf would feel with no play in the steering column... Great to see someone still actively working on one of these cars!
Thank you mate 👍🏼
Hi,after removing of crank trigger wheel how you will get crank position signal, also how you solve the issue with crankcase breather? Can I also use by the same way a Golf 2 1.6 td engine block and turn it to an 1.8 16v KR ?
Thanks for they video bruh! In about 2 weeks i'll do the same tank swap. I have a question does the fuel gauge still work like the oem. (Sorry for the mispell English is not My mother lenguaje) Thank a Lot from México
Hi mate I know you posted this video 4 years ago but I believe I have the same exact problem with my mk4 I’m wondering if ur still in business and where about your based, I’d be happy to pay for ur service and stay around and help if possible

What is the part number for the ABS ring you used? I’m about to order a pair of 9N hubs and the Epytec adapter ring. Do you have to take the current one off before fitting the Epytec one?

Thanks for uploading this, really helpful. So in terms of a parts list to do this refurb, I need: 1. Ignition housing w/ bearing built in 2. Lower column bearing 3. Lower bush (your 3D printed item) Is there anything else i'm missing? Thanks
Thanks dude, glad you found this helpful 👍🏼 yes that list is right.

Hello, thanks for the info. May the release bearing cause the clutch to not disingage properly? Ive been having headaches for weeks trying to find the issue. The clutch is fairly new
Seriously awesome
Thank you👍🏼
Muito curioso!!!!! 🎉
Lets see what happens
Tenho o motor perfeito para fazer esse projecto de novo. Tenho um vento de 92, o qual já estiveste de frente para ele num encontro de vws Volkswhon. Ficava contente se pudesses fazer-me esse trabalho. Podíamos combinar isso.
Hello, I have a golf mk2 kr with an ABF engine and I have problems with the dealer, how exactly were you able to make it perfect, thank you
Hello, I need more information, what is your problems?
Traducir texto con tu cámara Hello, thank you for responding, my problem is that the delco of my KR is not related to the ABF engine because the stroke is too long and I have no way of getting it ready for maximum performance. I see that you name a device for the distributor. That solves this problem, thank you.
It does not relate to the ignition timing because it is different and I see that you manage to fix that problem
I just swapped my clutch and now gearbox runs all the time unless i push clutch on the floor, is this a sign on this bearing breaking or did i do something wrong
Sorry I don't understand "gearbox runs"?
@@RestoDesignsnando sorry, what i mean is, even when i dont have a gear on, cv flanges keep spinning. I have not yet installed axles just in case i need to take it apart again
@@johannesperkio1829 ok that is normal. that's just the friction of the gearbox oil. Put the shafts on. 👍🏼
Nice job bro!! Did you need to reprogram the climate control? I didn’t understand the last step
Thank yous, no you'll need to turn on the cruise control in the ECU.
Looks backwards. Wrong side of road. Driver in passanger seat. Lol
Nice video! In the rear back seats, did you car have a lower backseat bracket? Mines doesnt have, not sure how you solve this. I guess you welded it, right? Thank you!
Thanks, the rear seats are Golf mk2 60/40 split, if you are going to use the rear seats from the Golf mk3 then yes you will need to find a way to fix the centre bracket to hold the seats. I would drill holds are use m8 rivnuts.
I got a glove box to put in my cabrio that didn’t come with a glove box but I can’t seem to get it to fit
It should just be 'plug n play' they have 3 hooks at the top which need to go in at an angle to hold the upper bit.
Hi, great vid. Do you have the part number for the top radiator cover at all please?
Interesting content! I m currently restoring a 4 door MK2 GTI type 19, I got every piece to its original state. I had a problem sourcing door cards and decent seats, so I decided to restore its recaro seats and door cards and put on black leather upholstery instead of textile. Do you think that it will lose its authenticity as a classic with that leather interior ??
Hi,did you also replace the half axles with golf 3 ones?aren't they longer than the golf 2 axles?
Thank you for video.
Great eye and job well done 👍💪
Thank you so much 👍🏼
