  • Is Cities Skylines 2 good now?
    With a set of new mods just released as well as some updated versions of old mods, Cities Skylines 2 is getting better. (mostly)
    In this video we'll go over the Find It, Extra 3.0 and Traffic Mods as well as a number of custom assets in Cities Skylines 2. The game IS getting better, however, performance is still a moderate concern, but overall, this is a great development and modders are truly doing amazing work!
    With the improvements brought about by modders, Cities Skylines 2 is fixed to some extent, but it DOES still need a lot of work. This is definitely a promising development.
    Please no harsh negativity in the comments but feel free to disagree or critique the game, etc. An honest discussion of the game in its current state is encouraged. :)

      Some things to consider:
      1: Employees only work 9 to 5, have sick days, holidays, approval procedures, and many, many other hoops to jump through to make improvements to the game.
      2: Modders mod the game out of passion, they will often stay up nights and weekends working on their peojects and are willing to try and new and wacky things. Employees, meanwhile, mostly get paid as long as they hit a certain minimum standard of productivity. Many devs dont even play their own games ever. Hence, a modder will always aspire to more than an employee who has no stake in the quality of the game outside their monthly paycheck.
      3: The pool of creative idea in a game's modding scene is by default higher, as modders are part of a community of thousands to tens of thousands of active players, while a game dev company will maybe have 150 employees working on a given game (unless they are ubisoft, lol).
      Hence: Mods will always surpass company-created products, look at Dota vs Warcraft 3, look at the plurality of modded Starcraft 2 experiences, Skyrim mods and total conversion like Enderal, Stellaris with vs without mods, and the list goes on. Mods make gaming great, otherwise they are most often just consumerist slop made by emotionally uninvested people.
      Tl;dr: Capitalism bad 😂

    @T33K3SS3LCH3N Před 25 dny +12

    The way you leave empty spaces to fill in with detailling goes to one of my major issues with the way the build system works in the CS games in general.
    Most normal players feel compelled by the game to plaster every bit of space with something "useful", which is generally just buildings or roads. The idea that you could just leave a bit of empty area for decoration barely even comes up.
    Manor Lords is a neat current example to the opposite, where you actually are encouraged to make parcels bigger to leave room for additional expansions or to improve the effectiveness of certain add-ons like gardens.
    I would love if CS2 or a potential CS3 ever came around to address this fundamentally. To allow us to define plots that will not be fully developed, but leave empty space either for decoration or real game-play purposes. Like instead of just placing a commercial zoning that will be 100% filled with structures, you can draw a commercial lot that will automatically decide how much of the area to use for floor space, parking, decoration etc, but can also be fully customised.

    Paradox: "The mods will make the game work as it should."
    CS2: "Maybe mods will work today, or maybe they'll break everything. And good luck figuring out which of the 30 mods you need is the one causing issues"
    I love CS1 and I built a fancy new computer just to play CS2 (performance still sucks). And *when* it works, I enjoy playing it. But it frustrating that the game depends on mods to be good and the mods often break the game or crash it in the middle of playing it. One day I spent more time just trying to get the CS2 main screen to load than actually playing the game.
    Paradox really needs to get some of the basics into the actual game - like traffic lane paths, line tool, better bulldozer, zoning, etc. Mods should be extras, not requirements. If some random person can code something to add these features, surely paradox can do it better and faster.

    • @CitiesByDiana

      I agree with ALL of this. It's been such a hassle trying to get this game to work with mods. Now that I've finally done it, it's (mostly) worth playing. But it should have been this day on DAY ONE without any mods needed. The mods I have aren't anything monumental or confusing to new players. They're all just quality of life stuff and some extra detailing options and visual mods. The fact it took 9 months to get the game into a state where it even comes close to CS1 with mods is sad. We were supposed to get a sequel so we didn't need mods to do what we wanted to do. It's a shame and I don't blame people for sticking to CS1, in fact I am still keeping much of my personal city building time in the game and still doing content for it because it's just such a classic I don't think it'll ever die.

    The more I see pictures people post on the FB groups the graphics are making me want the game, then I see the surface stuff in this... only thing is I just can't justify paying $60 when I got cs1 and most dlc, and only 453 hrs into the game over a span of 7 or 8 years and only now over the past 2 years have been able to pay it much better, and have not yet built a big enough city to use a lot of my dlc stuff. Sure I did it on my old crappy laptop with less mods etc.
    But now I play on my 2020 high end PC, and use lots of mods and assets, and detail, I do still play according to traffic and demands but always play with everything unlocked and unlimited money.
    I'll stick to cs1 with my mods that make it graphically a bit better, but still I like the looks of cs2's water and sunlight etc

    the big thing missing for me is a half decent map editor. In its current state the map editor is AWFUL. It has a few very basic thing missing, for example you cant see the height values - you youre just eyeballing everything. its tedious to work with. And I like playing on my own maps so this is a deal breaker for me.

    Did the traffic get better after editing a crap load of roads in your city? Because that was the 2nd biggest issue for me. Traffic jams because of stupid ai (I guess that makes it an a without the i). It seems the mod really does make it better, but as a whole, did it make traffic much smoother?
    My biggest issue is my city came to a crawl (stopped growing) after 250k or something like that. I used to stream this game every Sunday, there came a time I would leave my pc running while I was afk to progress (my poor pc screaming :(). But theres only so much you can do. I hope there is a mod eventually that can fix that. Not sure how long the devs are gonna take to fix that.
    Oh also, near the end of the video your music has lyrics in it, and it was a bit loud, so your voice + lyrics/singing was a bit distracting to concentrate. :)

    Traffic mod is nice, but as far as I know, the simulation is so broken, that it doesn’t really matter

  • @urban_dave
    @urban_dave Před 21 dnem +1

    Not it's not good. Maybe the detail is finally a possible thing. But simulation is totally broken. I've started two new cities, and when you hit Level 6, demand goes full in each zone and doesn't go down whatever you do. You can only zone residential and you still have lots of demand despite you don't put any service or other zones. Sames happen with money. I started one of the cities with 6% taxes, and I making tons of money. Also no need to put any service (electricity, waste, cemetery...) and I am having 30k habitants. Also, traffic problems? Just a couple of traffic jams on the only entrance for a 30K city. There is no simulation, behind the game.

    • @CitiesByDiana
      @CitiesByDiana  Před 21 dnem +1

      Yeah as a simulation game it honestly sucks right now. For making nice looking stuff it's getting better but performance is still spotty for me personally.
      And honestly playing it more the performance on my end is still almost deal breaking. It's better than it used to be but I kinda jumped the gun one this video because after another 10 or so hours of play I've crashed so much and got nothing done.

    • @CitiesByDiana
      @CitiesByDiana  Před 21 dnem +1

      And yeah the traffic simulation in this game feels meaningless. Worse than CS1 not sure why but yeah

      @@CitiesByDiana In terms of performance, for 1080p players it's ok If you have the right PC. I am just behind recommended specs: i5 12400 RX6750XT and 32 GB and until 60K people (didn't go further) I have 40-50 fps stable in high settings in a y situation (even with rain - snow)
