I'm finally ready to go back to Cities Skylines 2... (New Modded City)

- Cities Skylines 2 is finally playable for detail builders! In this video we're starting a brand new city using mods and a few new custom assets. The city is named Gila and it is based in the deserts of North America on a custom desert-themed map based on Alququerque New Mexico. We will work on the starting layout, some of the downtown zoning and doing some fine detailing of various areas around the new city.
New mods and assets have made CS2 better and more playable and as we see new updates and mods come out, we will be integrating them into this series to create a large detailed city.
Please no harsh negativity in the comments but feel free to disagree or critique the game, etc. An honest discussion of the game in its current state is encouraged. :)

THE PAVEMENT PRINCESS IS BACK I LOVE YOU DIANA
As an Albuquerque resident, the dumpster fires are painfully accurate. The dumpster outside our place has been set on fire twice in the last 18 months by the hoards of vagrants.
We also get snow in the winter, so the snow isn't entirely out of place like the autumn trees are.
I just moved back after college and the first thing that happened was having to call the fire department because there was a fire at Roosevelt Park xd. Shout out the 505 haha
Could you imagine how much better the game would be, if, like in Manor Lords, you drew your zone (whether it be residential, commercial, or industrial) and it had an arrow to indicate the facing, and you could rotate it to face any road you wanted? and then all the buildings in that zone would all face the same direction? Manor Lords way of zoning will be the future of city building.
Absolutely I'd love to see something like Manor Lords but modern
That would be awesome. I have very few dislikes with Cities, but zoning is the biggest.
I really just don't get it, cause they literally solved this in CS1 by allowing you to disable zoning on individual roads. I have no idea why that was never transfered over.
I go in waves from CS 2 (loving the graphics) to CS 1 Assets and PO but I gotta say holy heck is it so good to see a new CS 2 series from you. This was such an amazing episode and I am so excited for the future of this series! Can’t wait for the next one!
It does snow in Albuquerque, and the leaves also change color in the fall so that part is realistic. Albuquerque has all four seasons because of the high altitude.
Gotta love how the palm trees have snow textures but not the grass surfaces 😼
But hey things are looking up! Just don't fall into the red pool...
western hemisphere merging grids : cool road layouts
thailand merging grids : 6 lane + stroads with 1 m wide sidewalks and a pedestrian bridge / train entrance blocking the whole sidewalk every few meters
I await the day we can build Thai cities in CS2
I’ve given up on the game, but I enjoy your videos and am so glad I watched this one. Didn’t watch the whole thing though, had to stop after hearing one of the background songs, Somnambulation. Holy crap that is an excellent surf song. Dropped everything and Listened to the whole album two times in a row nonstop. Still hearing it my head days later. Thanks for the music lol!
Yeahhh that song is so good 😊
I was stationed at Cannon AFB, New Mexico for 6 years. It was about 4 hours East of ABQ. I would visit ABQ often since it was the big city in the region. It really is an awesome city that has so many hidden secrets. Thank you for bringing it into the CS2 world. I think it would be awesome to see this following in the future episodes as inspiration for you:
Central AVE BRT
Kirkland AFB
A tiny city away from the the main city based off of Clovis, NM.
In CS1 I spent days trying to to recreate my old duty station and little cities I visited in NM, West Texas and Souther Colorado (which we all know is the best state ever, as a Native Colorado it is law I saw that).
Glad to see you back. I love you videos and cannot wait to see your potential in CS2! Also, snow is pretty normal in the ABQ area! Don’t you fret.
Seconding the Central BRT and KAFB. Those two provide really interesting parts of the city different than the grids on grids the rest of the city is
Welcome back I've gotten back into playing CS2 at the beginning of the week I'm getting back into the feel of the game but some of my mods are being an absolute pain in the back side.
Ty 😊 yeah the mods have been....a bit of trouble but I seem to have gotten them into a stable place. It's like CS1 all over again 😭
Somnabulation do be sounding like pump it from the black eyed peas
Glad to see you back in CS2. Can't wait to see where this series goes!
"Take a good look at this pristine, untouched high desert.....It would be such a shame if something... happened.. to it !"
Thank you so much for the video, much much appreciated! 🙌💛
I hope the game is treating you well and things will work smoothly, and I hope you'll be having more fun with it now 💛
I like the starting layout, looking very cool ^-^
ALL the best :)
Great video!!! Love the orange kitty!!! Oh and the city was nice too :D
Seriously, I like the approach you took to this build and agree with the controversial stuff you did haha
Being unable to choose which side of the streets you want zoning on is wild. The amount of space I've wasted by using pavement paths to block zoning is so so dumb; especially bad if you want to create a smaller grid where each side of the streets are only accommodating 3 deep zones.
Agreed. That is the number one thing I think they should fix before anything else and was such a deal breaker for me for so long.
@@CitiesByDiana It's crazy that it was so overlooked when it's one of the first things that you would do in the game.
I'm very pleased to see that you've returned to CS2! 👏
Starting off with a bang! Love this, thank you for being back!
Regarding the "pool" Real Civil Engineer would probably say it is too small. 😂
True 😂😂
This was actually the first time I enjoyed watching Cities 2 gameplay.
Don't forget to include nods to Railrunner, the commuter rail that runs from Santa Fe to Belen... through ABQ, and ART... ABQ Rapid Transit with a BRT that runs down Central Ave (US 66) all the way across town. For more realism: Skimp on the police and have large amounts of crime. It's a tough town.
I've installed the corner building mod and it's honestly one of the best things I've done on this game, it genuinely made the experience much better lol.
I lived in Albuquerque for 6 years and I’m very happy to see it inspiring a cities skylines build. However I do have some (thoughts? helpful comments? Constructive criticism?). I agree with your point on fall. When I lived there, autumn lasted roughly one day. You’d have green, then for one day every tree would be brown, and then the next day every tree would be bare. But on winter, it actually was a real winter. Any snow in the valley usually melted by noon, but it wasn’t uncommon to get several inches of snow the night before. My biggest criticism is there is too much grass. Most grass you see in ABQ was either artificial or flaunting local water restrictions (or it was along the Rio Grande). Everything else is xeriscaped, usually you would see undulating paths, which I assume was to add visual interest to landscaping done with rocks. However your joke about sh*t ponds is actually accurate since the wastewater is treated inland before being recycled to the Rio Grande. The sh*t ponds would be akin to the aeration basin portion between the primary and secondary clarification basins
Gila is such a good name for this kind of city!
Wow what a small world my grandpa was originally from Gila. I guess he moved out to Calvin for work, there at Deer Creek Oil, and he met my grandma and for better or worse here I am. One of an ever shrinking number of Calvinites haha. Just wild seeing Gila randomly like this. Wish I could show pop pop 😔
You know the LORE
I always love the music in your build videos! 🥰
this slightly fills the hole cascadia bay left in my heart go pavement princess
I'm so glad, I was sad when that save broke
Omggg I couldn’t be more excited for this series ❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
The dumpster fire in the intro. Lovin it. And the fact you are giving it another shot is nice. 👌
cities 2 should add a feature to have lot sizes for zones like simcity used to have. That would fundamentally change so many things for the better with this game.
keep on, keeping on \o/
Finally, Diana is going to Break Bad
this is very lovely build =D
Yeeah, looking forward to watching this city evolve. Now that mods are available, I finally bought CS2 and it is quite fun.
Totally ready Let's Go!
Yoooo have been waiting awhile for a new Diana CS let's play c:
🥰🥰
The music at the beginning is beautiful. It's rare to see footage of girls in city building games. You are super!
The pool of blood was very nice. Very mid-west. I think everyone in Reno has one, or definitely knows someone who does. Bathing in blood is, after all, the only true way to appease the Las Vegas gods.
CS2 will be great in like another year 🫰
ABQ IS MY HOME CITY WOW YAY
I don't even want to imagine the smell of living across from the poo lake 🤣
LMAO about the weather. Beautiful desert build. Us desert dwellers would love to have those trees.
I can't wait until we get some proper desert foliage beyond just palms it'll be nice to make this city super realistic
@@CitiesByDiana Diversification of foliage is something I'm so looking forward to as the game matures. Especially wetland and coastal dune plants/trees, the ones that work really well for softening and breaking up the transitions between different terrain and shorelines.
Lovd your commentary.. 😂 😂 The giant shithole in the middle of the city cracks me up
Ironically, 'gila' means wet in my language😂😂😂
and don't forget for "lane man" control.
I add sewage reservoirs in my cities alot, but they're typically in the industry area lol.
I do plan to add industry on the other side haha
I hope the presidents series comes back
City Painter is certainly back for detailer, not quite for Cities Skylines players who love getting involved in the actual Planning aspect or is it?
Well aware the Economy patch is going to poke the mods just as it happens with Stellaris every DLC but meh no biggie.
But the new Mixed Use mods and assets available certainly have diversified the game play for those liking city planning and city building aspects for now.
0:55 that dumpster fire did not escape me either intentional or not
Also a wonder 16 minutes of CS2 watching as well
Good to see you back Diana 🙂
One last thing
I see you do have the Mixed Use ROW (3 storey commercial/office and residential), and the new very low density commercial as well
What are your thoughts on them?
I absolutely love them to bits and my current city - Cape Solaria seems to as well as the Cims cant get enough of them
Those mixed use row buildings are such a game changer, they're a small addition but much needed. Loving them so much
@@CitiesByDiana They are such a game changer I have gone completely to town on them (a very bad pun there). The ROW schools, medical clinic and post office help, as does that ROW with parking out the back so you dont need the game's existing parking lots which are very cumbersome.
I know the economy patch might break these but I hope the modder can update them when they are ready.
Overall though very happy another CS player is using the Mixed Use mods 🙂 as you said - a game changer
Oh snap! She's playing CS2? Is this a sign things are starting to turn finally???
Have been listening to City Planner Plays and Biffa talk about their private meeting with CO.
I'd say it's getting better with mods, still not perfect but it's actually fun to play now that there's some customization.
The queen of cities has retunred
In the wake of the craziness that was KSP2, im so glad cities 2 is getting the love and care it needs from paradox to be a truly great game. Yeah it shouldnt have been released in that state, but at least they're working on it. Wow the bar has fallen a lot huh
Honestly yeahhhh at least it's gotten better that's a good start
kitty nap are great!
Yes 🐈
How does it look so good and not like grey muck? You made me reinstall this game. Love this video!
I'm using a few visual mods too ☺️ preserve photo mode and map texture replacer
Woooo!
you can manually set the season in dev mode btw
Oh yeah! I'm gonna do that next time
Great to see you not just giving CS2 another go but most importantly starting to enjoy what this game has to offer. Looking forward to seeing what you can do with it. And if it stops being fun again, I'm definitely also here for the other stuff you do.
It sucks that all the lots have to have bright green manicured grass (not your fault at all). It makes the city look unhinged that every random house and office is spending thousands of gallons on landscaping
I mean there are parts of the us southwest that do that 😂 but I'll get to it eventually
I swear cities 2 on console needs to look like this or else even the price of free will not save this game, especially when competing with the elden ring dlc
how do you choose the songs you play over the vid? sometimes i watch your vids just for the banger playlist lol
Oh yeah I used a site called Epidemic Sound and just browse through different genres to find what sounds good 😊
@@CitiesByDiana The Spaghetti Western sound was perfect.
@@CitiesByDiana ty!
How do you get rid of the trees, i cannot find how to do it other than holding delete and going over thousands of trees. Thanks
If you turn off all of the snapping options in the menu when you have the tree brush selected and then right click the area you want it'll work 😊
Could you show us which mods you are using?
what was the secret to getting your mods to work w/o crashing? For the most part, it almost works fine with Skyve, but sometimes decides to throw random errors or weirdness my way
I removed a few asset mods I wasn't using and that seemed to help
Haven’t touched the game in months, is the zoning fixed ? Because it was unplayable for me.
😎
Where’s the jogging path around the 💩 pool? Surely your cims will appreciate recreational opportunities.
I want to swim in pooppooppool ❤
I feel bad for those poor people who have to live next to the poop lake. too bad that game can't simulate that that would be low income housing.
Can i have that custom asset mixed resedential raw houses?? may i know where did u get it?
Yeah it's called mixed row zoning. I'll try to find the link when I'm back on my pc
@@CitiesByDiana I'll wait
can i have ur modpack pls?
Are the parking lots functional?
Oh no, Diana is being normal... ope nope there's the sh*twater
It was an accident
Good to see your Cities Skylines builds coming back with the usual magical ingredients of city history, planning considerations, game limitations, creative work-arounds and humour. I'm still a long way off buying it as I just don't have the computer to run it. Maybe next year. In the meantime I'll watch your videos! (Also having fun at the moment dabbling in Sim City 3000, very limited in creative options but it has a great general aesthetic.)
A few thoughts...
It'd be great if there's a way of replacing grass textures for properties to blend them in better, so they'd be a mix of desert dirt and green lawns fighting a losing battle. I wonder if you could use the beach sand decals over them a bit to give them that harsher-environment dustiness... but then I'm not sure if massive use of decals would hurt pefromance.
Schools in the mid-west and western sprawl, and small cities, tend to have a few more empty grassy / hardscrabble empty lots around them. Using them as thin 'future development' buffer zones between them and tract housing might help balance out the slightly odd impressions of mismatched scale you get in game. Just looking at Redmond, Oregon on Google Earth gives me some ideas.
I don't think Skylines is quite ready for pure New Mexico / Arizona desert yet but I think it is possibly capable of high desert plains like central Oregon. You have the belt of mountains with pines and as you transfer into the lower plains a lot of low scrub. Finally in the towns themselves you get a good variety of implanted trees. That sort of map would offset the fall colours issue a little, and provide some desert-like space while having natural snow covered winters.
Really love your offset grids and the details once again, especially around the school. One win for CSII is the ease of the surface painter. Hope you keep up with this series. There's an awful lot to fix with the game and I really hope the quality of life and detailing stuff eventually folds into the base game, and that the Content Creator Packs offer a sufficiently substantial volume to really be able to tailor architecture to environment. Anyway, thanks for another perfectly paced video!
Is it the desert map or some mod that makes your game have much more vibrant colors than my cities? I think everything is kind of gray on the cities I build.
It is, it's two mods: map texture replacer and preserve photo mode
@@CitiesByDiana Thank you. I will try these.
The reason why zoning breaks all weird like that is because somewhere that roads meet they didn’t meet in a whole unit. Sometimes turning off snap to grid fixes it. For sure turn off snap to guidelines fixes it
Oh I understand the reason why, it's just a massive hassle.....I hope they fix it
Was going to rate this a 4 out of 5, but then the special twist sent it to 5.5
care to share the map? i woud love to build along
mods.paradoxplaza.com/mods/76919/Any
I think that link should work
wow that was quick thank you so much!
👸
Nope. Still too painful and frustrating to watch. I want to like the second game. I really do. There's literally nothing that screams "gotta have it" though. All I see when I check CS2 vids are things lacking from or done better in the first game. Or just general wtf were the devs thinking moments. Little to no "Oh that's cool" or "Wow that's awesome you can do that now" moments. Those that do come up are so simple or obvious that to call them impressive is a bit of a stretch. Maybe now that modders can start to finish the job of developing this it'll be good after a few years of patches and dlc.
Seriously, for those digging it, what is the best thing about this game? Seems to me its a fine sequel to the first game but only if you compare it to vanilla Cities: Skylines as it released in 2015, without any of the mods, free updates or dlc. Some may argue that is all one should expect, but I strongly disagree. That makes for a slow crawl of progress vs the leap forward and immediate success it could have been. The only real selling point I see is the lack of node/agent limits.
Poop Central! Love it!
The Euro beach properties looking like US southwest and Latin American architecture is the colonialism peeking through.
Very true. They definitely look like some old Spanish stuff....
3/10 not enough lanes
Fair
Should I buy cities skylines 2? I just bought the 1st game
I'd say give the first game some love for awhile then give 2 a try afterwards, 2 is definitely improving now by a lot but it'll be even better in a few months, the first game is addictive enough as it is 🤣
Alr thanks I will for sure
I thought I was ready, too.
But the game crashes almost every 5 minutes now with mods installed.
And I got banned on the forums after I questioned why one singular moderator, Prismaticmarcus, gets to choose when threads are closed and discussion must stop, because he doesn't like seeing it- not because any rules are being broken, but because he thinks the conversation is too contentious.
After posting essentially nothing but comments getting positive reactions that were sternly criticizing the way the devs and communication has been this past week.
I will never pay this company for anything ever again. Can't wait to pirate this whole fucking game as it comes out.
BTW, they should've had you at their little talk instead of known bootlicker Biffa.

@@CitiesByDiana correct
show me what you got
Ps need more lanes
Lanes are coming soon 😄

Do these custom parking lots actually work?
