- "Born to Run" is a song written and performed by American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen. It was released as the title track of his third studio album, "Born to Run," in 1975. The song is often considered one of Springsteen's signature songs and has become an anthem of sorts for the working class and those seeking freedom and escape.
"Born to Run" captures the spirit of youthful rebellion and the desire to break free from the constraints of a small town and mundane life. It features a wall of sound production, incorporating elements of rock and roll, pop, and Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" technique.
The song's lyrics tell the story of two lovers, the narrator and his girlfriend, as they attempt to escape their hometown and find a life of adventure and excitement. They long to run away together, leaving behind the confines of their small town and pursuing their dreams.
With its driving rhythm, powerful vocals, and poetic lyrics, "Born to Run" encapsulates Springsteen's ability to capture the dreams, struggles, and aspirations of the working class. The song has remained a staple of Springsteen's live performances and has been hailed as one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded. - Zábava
His lyrics are so amazing. “…girls comb their hair in the rearview mirrors and the boys try to look so hard…” my god, that’s half a decade of my life summed up. Simple words, universally relatable meanings.
They don't call him boss for no reason ✌️ R.I.P. to "The Big Man" Clarence Clemons 🙏 He's blowing that sax in heaven 🎷
He was wonderful
Times were good in this era, people were United & happy, I remember this very well.👍👏👏👏💜💜💜
Bruce’s vocal is perfect for his songs.
Almost like he wrote them
Anything by Bruce is great !!!!
His shows are amazing..over 3 hours long and he has the pedal to the metal the whole tume.
I remember when the sax player clarance died. Bruce quit for awhile. They had been together for years and his death was very difficult for Bruce
@@GS-xt8fuFor a few years after, they used to stop in the middle of a song - at the line “The big man joined the band” and play a tribute video. They still play the video now but don’t stop the song.
@jspettifer The song was "10th Avenue Freeze Out." Gonna hear his Live from New.York City version. That version is like a revival!
The last concert I saw him in, he was 62 years old and the energy was electric as he was wide open and we, the crowd, were right there with him. His shows are the best I have went to.
Bruce has been the poet of my life since I was 14 years old...in my 60s now!
Bruce might not have the greatest voice, but he absolutely gets the message across.
I’ve grown to appreciate the Born in the USA album. It’s about the decay of American cities and the blue collar working man. All these years later, it’s still a powerful indictment and commentary on the USA. Listen to the lyrics of “Born in the USA…” it’s not what you think.
I support the measure.
I agree, Born In The USA needs a close listen, or it seems like patriotic nonsense. But it's actually about Viet Nam veterans returning from war and finding things hostile. He played it for many of them to make sure he was telling their story and feelings accurately.
Tom Petty told a pretty cool story about playing at a large Rock Festival where Bruce Springsteen was the Headliner. The two bands that performed before Bruce and the E-Street Band we’re Jackson Brown and Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers. Both Rock legends in their own rights. As Jackson Brown finished up his set and came back stage Tom Petty asked him how it went on-stage. Jackson Brown responded that it it went pretty well but told Tom Petty that if it sounds like the audience is booing them to not let it throw them as they weren’t booing but chanting “Bruce!”. Tom Petty replied “Hell that’s even worse!”. 😂😂
Nobody is even close live the boss is just simply the best
Back then when Bruce would do inside concerts it was said he would jump over tables with his guitar ...Now that i just saw that jump he did..I definitely get it.. Thanks
I think you guys are great. Love your opinions, knowledge & conversations
PLEASE
Springsteen live waiting on a sunny day
The banding him show you the fun they have together
Peace rock on
Thanks for the great reaction gentlemen. The last Springsteen concert I went to only lasted 3 hours and 5 minutes. I guess he was tired that night. RIP Clarence.
The iconic Clarence Clemons on sax!!!
This song is the signature song always sung at Monmouth Park for the Haskell horse race. Awesome to be there and since he’s a local person a lot of us know everybody is singing.
Bruuuuce
Bruce was "The Boss" because of that live clips they showed in here. His Live performances were, and are, legendary. And he didn't really have any pop 'hits' until Born In The USA, yet he was still legendary because of blue collar lyrics and his epic Live shows. 3 hours+ every night gets you famous if you're good at it.
The Big Man! Clarence Clemens on the Sax. R.I.P.
This is my favorite Bruce song.
RIP Clarence The Big Man on the sax
Springsteen is so hit or miss. It's like he never does average, only greatness or cheese.
His songs scream emotional depth!! Great points on feeling the emotional weight!
I've had the pleasure of seeing Bruce a number of times. At the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. On the street a couple of times and everyday for about 6 months in 1988.
At the time I was in the Marine Corps and stationed near my home town. One of the guys had served in the Navy with Bruce's manager and somehow he ended up using a large area in our building to rehearse for his upcoming tour.
Every day around noon the band showed up and practiced for hours, met the whole group.
I think that was the entire state of New Jersey attending his concert.
Dudes, 1. POINT BLANK 2. SPIRIT IN THE NIGHT 3. THE RIVER 4. DOWNBOUND TRAIN. take it from there.
His concerts are such fun. High energy for sure. Saw him twice in LA around 1980. First time he played for 4 hours. Epic!!
The Boss!
Great reaction. You need to react to 10th AVENUE FREEZE OUT (Live in New York City) - One of the greatest live performances ever. It's long because he does an extended breakdown during the middle before he introduces the band but his introduction of Clarence Clemons near the end is epic.
Clarence Clemmons (The Big Man) on the saxophone was Bruce's closest friend and he was devistated by his death. He took off years after the loss.
I have tickets to see Bruce at Wembley Stadium in London, UK in July so excited
At one of his shows in 2008, this song was playing. I was in the stadium seating behind the stage and there was a very intoxicated fan in front of us. With the full band going, house lights flashing, we were all high fiving each other until this guy started leaning back further...and further. Finally, a bunch of us grabbed him by the shirt so he wouldn't fall because he had lost his balance. He regained his footing and kept partying like nothing had happened. It was hilarious and genuinely a fun experience. What I like about this video is that it shows how much the band puts into their concerts. Especially when the wife is left at home - the boys play a little extra hard!
Bruce is the most amazing artist of our time. He is legendary!! Bruuuce forever ❤
3 of my favorites. Born in the USA, its not what you think, listen to lyrics.
Glory days, Your hometown
Adam raised a Cain hardly ever gets a mention.
The entire album is about the decay of American cities as we fought in Vietnam and outsourced American jobs. The death of blue collar America. Still powerful and relevant today. Listen to that album and realize why we’re politically at the point we are today.

🎼You nailed it 100%. It all happened with Ronald Reagan and his “Trickle Down Economics”. They busted the middle class by busting the Unions. Those good old Republicans did it all. Like I said, you nailed it and I helped by slamming my hammer too. By the way, Springsteen is a Democrat…🎼
@@chrisjenkins6120 I think it started in the 1970s, that’s why Reagan was elected. Reagan in the USA and Thatcher in the UK. The reality is that very little trickled, and when it did, Clinton shipped manufacturing to China and Mexico.
GENTLEMEN if you listen to sing Mickael Jackson, BeYonce, Queen, Celine Dion, or Taylor Swift you have a lot of sugar, fun but no guts! Bruce is sincerity, guts, humanity and he is the greatest storyteller in the history of rock... Quite simply!
I love you with all the madness in my soul. 🔥
That's funny because I've actually described him as a whole lot of good enough with two things in spades. He has great lyrics and a ton of energy, and all that energy pulls that "good enough" to great.
Springsteen live in a giant stadium was a musical nuke.
The BOSS! ❤️
This guy is THE BOSS OF THE BOSS!!!!
There was so much energy at his concerts!
I agree that Bruce Springsteen isn't the greatest vocalist - especially live (the studio version of this song sounds better) but he and his band have great energy and intensity. He's also a brilliant song-writer. Other artists have done his songs too - including "Fire" by the Pointer Sisters.
Yep...another case of - "not a great voice, but a great singer." I've always loved Bruce's vocals...well, up until about the early 90s. They started to change then and have been on a rapid decline the last 20 years. I feel bad for the singers who lose their ability with age. It's not like a guitar where you can just keep buying new strings.
You better have some energy to be in that band! ❤
Bruce springsteen is one of the great American songwriters he always tells stories in his lyrics. He is the songwriter, producer and director of his Band which he put together when he was nineteen and he is going again in tour in 2024 with that original Band except for two members that passed away the sax player that he replaced him with his nephew and the organ player that he also replaced with an awesome one.
Little Steven plays guitar with Bruce and you may recognize hime from The Sopranos as Silvio Dante
Saw him on Born in the USA tour and it was unbelievable. No opening act, played 4 hours, Bruce took a 30 minute break.
I've seen Bruce and the band 3 times in the last 6 months on this current world tour! At 72 they all still rock and leave it all on the stage every night! Can't wait to see them in Philly next month!!!!
I was 13...lol one of 7 million sold albums. Had the first two also.
Blessed Boomer.
I love it 🥰
Seen him 4 times and it's a party....going to see him again 9/4 (in NJ)!!!
I went to one of his concerts in Boston maybe 6 yrs ago. Fantastic! Unbelievable energy. RIP Clarence Clemmons ❤
you guys are awesome.
When this song came out, it was deleted into the weekend on Friday night on the top rock station in the country WMMS.. I saw his show a couple of times at the Richfield Coliseum in Cleveland on New Year's Eve. And let me assure you it was electric. This is his oncore tune and the crowd just goes ape shit
It begins. Get ready for the rabbit hole!
Gentlemen that song came out in 1975 but that performance came from his 1985 Born in the USA tour in 1985 when he was 35 yrs old The Boss had some ups to jump that high
Bruuuuuce!!! His concerts were legendary. He would play for 3-4 hrs at that high energy level. When everyone was chanting his name it sounded like boooo lol. The Boss indeed. Clarence was legendary as well ❤
🔥🔥🔥
There was a serious movement to make this the state anthem of New Jersey. Someone must have actually read the lyrics and wised up.
Your next Bruce song has got to be Rosalita. The official video is also a live version.
The word you're looking for with regards to the Boss - "Truth" ! You feel it in everything he does and every word he writes and sings.
Imagine this dude showed up in today's music. He would be the biggest artist in the world in 6 months
If I had a time machine I would go back to hanging out with everyone involved with this tour.
checkin in
Love Bruce and YES!!!!!!!! he doesn't miss!
I saw him twice at the LA Colisium and once at the Sports Arena One show lasted over 4 hrs. A gift from God
The Boss🤘🤘
Go see them when they come around.
He represented the working man, the people that put in the blood, sweat, & tears.
Bruce's voice indeed is not the best sounding thing, but definitely his lyrics are usually very meaningful and his singing is filled with passion -- and it's infectious. This live YT version (seen it before a number of times) is very true to the studio version as far as tempo, mix, energy, etc... I'd prefer it if the video was all from the same concert but some of the images are pretty fun.
Glory Days - Bruce Springsteen and E Street Band. Guys, another great song would love to see you react to as you continue on the Bruce Springsteen journey. Top 5 billboard music charter from ‘85 and huge hit of his. Keep on keeping on gents and thanks for making it fun!
Hip hop journalist Nelson George once said that Bruce in concert is one of the most electrifying performers he has ever seen!
Hope you'll consider reacting to the studio version of "Jungleland". Clarence Clemons delivers one of the greatest moments in the history of rock & roll with a saxophone solo for the ages!
Indeed
Ladies and Gentlemen....The Boss!
This is not my favorite Bruce songs, since is simply one of my favorite Bruce Springsteen songs!
04:44 love that moment when the big man takes over! Musical equivalent to unleashing the junk yard dawg!
To think his shows go like this for 3 ot 4 hours
My favorite band of all time. ❤
I was at Wembley stadium in 1982 on the 4th of July first song was born in the USA life was all good
Springsteen did a one man Broadway show a few years back where he talks about growing up and milestones in his life. Mixed in are songs from different eras of his career. He starts by saying that he, Mr. Born To Run, Mr. Thunder Road...has to get out and see the world.....now lives 10 minutes from where he grew up in Jersey. A more grounded and humble superstar is hard to find.
Frankie Goes To Hollywood did a great cover of this song. NO ONE does it like Bruce, obviously, but FGTH offered a very respectable effort. "Relax" is always worth a listen too (add it to your one hit wonders list?)
May I say that "wrap your legs 'round these velvet rims and strap your hands 'cross my engines" is among the most brutally hot lyrics ever? I think TRex is the other band who has come close to this kind of raw sensuality in music. If you haven't hit TRex yet....consider them please.
I LOVED the Born to Run album back in the day! I was 16 when it came out and stayed up most weekend nights playing the 8 track on repeat. Tenth Avenue Freeze Out and Thunder Road are two of my favorites off the album.
Give me an artist that's raw and real over one that may have greater range and does lots of voice tricks but is putting on a show, any day! For the same reason I love seeing someone dance that is not concerned at all with how it looks over someone that has perfect muscle control and is very aware. I mean I can respect both but the first will hit me straight in the heart and soul. Bruce Springsteen, I mean I don't have his albums or know a whole lot about him but there are definitely songs that hit me in the heart. This is not one of them, but who cares when millions of others will :) Have a great day all!
This album was super different, when it debuted in ‘75! You just knew you were hearing a “super-star” for the first time!
He was straight up Rock’n Roll, in an age of disco and pompous “art rock”
Bruce and Clarence ran a very high energy show!
Peace
You want to hear Bru es live vocals watch Thunder RoD live from London in 1975. Awesome
He's The boss
At one point here in Jersey, they wanted to make this the state song. But there are TWO references to suicide in it and the phrase "we gotta get out while we're young!" so it was eventually scrapped.. lol
Born in The USA is actually ironic. It's actually critical of the USA and Vietnam and the American dream.
I was at one of the concerts shown in that video. Roundhay Park in Leeds (England) 1985, I was up on the hill on the left hand side.
The album charted well but the song only reached #23. Unfortunately there's no video for the studio version so we just have to keep rewatching this same video that people keep recommending over and over and over...... a video which is just a clip show of footage recorded 10 years after the song was first released.
Bruce was 35 during that video with the blue show 35 jumping high
I have seen Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band 6 times. I have said this before and I'll say it again...seeing Bruce live isn't just a concert, its a religious experience. If you havent seen him live, do it.
🇺🇲 The Boss...playlist favorite ❤️
Born in the USA is heartbreaking.
Clarence had some guns!
I would think a live version of The River is the most obvious choice for the next Springsteen reaction.
The version from Glastonbury is a must watch
Springsteen had pretty good music.
Iconic voice. Get the hell out of here.
After Elvis passed there was Springsteen and the E Street Band!
This was a re release and a tribute to the sax player Clarence RIP
Adam raised a Cain/Seattle/2016!
