Where the hell is the rest of it????
The Legendary Mark Knopfler!!
The best part of his playing on this song was cut short at the end. At any rate, Mark is one of the greatest guitarists and lyricists in any genre. His solo stuff is very good, and he is still going strong.
It was definitely cut off before they brought it home!!! 👍🏿
It's missing a verse too. Too bad -- this is one of those songs where the album version beats all the others.
Yes, great performance that cuts off the final solo which was part of what made Mark Knopfler a legend. Do yourselves a favor and hunt the studio version down
You should hear the "real" version with another verse as well.
I know that bummed me out that's the coolest outro, bummer I wanted these guys to hear him let loose!!!
You missed the best part of the song! The epic guitar solo near the end. Please listen to/watch a video of the FULL song.
I agree. Missing Knopfler's killer solo at the end is like stopping "In The Air Tonight" before Phil Collins's epic drum solo.
That IS the "full" 7" single version, you want the live extended version
Yes! I almost yelled at the screen “nooooo!” You gotta listen to the end!!!
@@StellaJean1000 That’s how the single version ends, and that video. There is no extended solo.
This CZcams video needs to be removed
Mark Knopflers first job was writing copy for a London newspaper. His first assignment was writing the obituary for Jimi Hendrix ..
Mark Knopfler doesn't use a pick, only his fingers. That's what makes his sound so unique.
Indeed because 5 picks are better than one.. 😀
Underrated??? 🤣🤣🤣
@@gennarodemartino9311Not to anyone that knows anything about rock guitarists. I've seen interviews of Clapton and other contemporaries who rate him amongst the best of all time.
Bob Dylan used Mark Knopfler on a couple of his albums and rated him as the best guitarist he's had since the days of The Band.
One of the Many bands from the UK who made great music inspired by black American jazz and blues
Mark knoffler is one of the most underrated guitarist. Truely great!
underrated guitarist 😳 well im 41 and in my youth we joke about him as we always hear he was the best
Maybe within the general public. In guitarist world, he's up there with the likes of Clapton.
Underrated by you. Stop that nonsense
Underrated??? 🤣🤣🤣
Underrated…? I think he’s pretty widely considered one of the best guitarists of all time to people who know music.
MTV started with none other than nonstop videos of dire straits and Michael Jackson. Period.
That’s facts❤🎉🎉🎉
The Alchemy Live version is the pinnacle. Some other great songs from them include Telegraph Road, Private Investigations, Romeo and Juliet, and Brothers In Arms
yesssss
it boogies don't it !!!
Please do Alchemy live, it's the real deal!
Yes, it's disappointing when the Alchemy Live isn't the one. I hope you 3 gentlemen will check that out real soon. If you love the guitar in this one you're going to lose your minds when you see the Alchemy Live..
Skate Away is also a classic.
Mark is one of the goats of guitar
Yes, he is!!!
Mark Knopfler has such a unique sound that is easily recognizable, the mark of a true artist.
Telegraph Road from Alchemy Live will blow you away. Guitars, drums, keyboards all 100% fantastic.
You MUST MUST MUST do the live version from alchemy!!!!!!!!!!
trust me
Knopfler. KING
Middle guy is correct. The British Invasion, as it's called in music, started in the 1960s with Pop Rock from The Beatles, The Kinks, and others. It completely changed the sound of rock music. The vibe became very teen suburban, rather than the other side of the track rockabilly, of Elvis, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, and the like. Then in the 70s the Brits re-invented rock again, with a sound driven by a love of American electric guitar blues.
Dire Straits "Walk of Life" "Brothers in Arms" "So Far Away" and of course "Money for Nothing" all are great. You will like each of these as much.
Excellent recommendations.
So Far Away is my favorite of these .. all good though for sure
great suggestions but don't leaves out Roller Girl....lol
Industrial Disease
I've always loved the drumming in this song. So tasty.
"They don't give a damn about no trumpet-playin' band, that's not what they call rock'n'roll..." This song is the definition of smooth. We'd never heard anything like it when it was released.
And the Sultans, yeah the Sultans play Creole.
One of the best rabbit holes.
Mark Knopfler is one of the guitar Goats and one of my top bands ever!.
More please!.
His guitar style is so unique. You absolutely always recognize Mark.
Just tickles me to death to see new generations fall in love with the music I grew up on. Nice one. Glad you enjoyed this one. It's a classic.
Top 3 Best Rock songs of the 70's! We were so spoiled!
#Facts 😊🥰🐰
Another couple of suggestions - "Lady Writer", "Romeo & Juliet", "Tunnel of Love"
A pox on the house of whoever cut out the final bars - some of the most iconic soloing ever.
Dire Straits are amazing. Please do the official video for Brothers In Arms. You probably heard the song before but it is so moving and the guitar is haunting.
It ALWAYS makes me cry!
Mark Knopfler is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time
Prince was once asked what it’s like to be the greatest guitar player in history. His response “I don’t know, you’d have to ask Mark Knopfler”
Mark Knopfler is a guitar genius. Brilliant. Glad you guys enjoyed it.
Never uses a pick, all finger picking.
One song, Brothers In Arms!
Mark Knoppler is a guitar genius one of the greatest who ever lived
Every Dire Straits song is a duet between Mark Knopfler and his guitar at it's heart. His solo work is probably even better since that band has been together since 1996. Dire Straits only had two permanent members Mark Knopfler and John Illsley, the bass player.
Mark Knopfler is a phenomenal guitarist.
It was all these UK guys who grew up in the 50's and 60's who got into old American Blues albums and were influenced by it so much they incorporated it into the songs they wrote. Then they ended up bringing it back to the US and revived all the old bluesmen and women. I know Elvis played a big part in it in America but it was people like Clapton and the Stones that really struck a chord in American listeners ears. Out of them Mark Knopfler here was the best fingerpicker to come out of it all.
I was look for this comment 😜
Europe gave many American artists opportunities in the 60s and 70s. The magnificent Tina Turner spoke to this.
Guitar music just flows effortlessly out of Mark Knopfler like cool water. He once said he'd be practicing, fall asleep, and when he woke up he was still playing.
I'm gonna beg you guys to please do another reaction video to "Sultans of Swing".... But next time react to Dire Straits- Sultans of Swing (Alchemy Live).... It's one kick ass performance! Especially the drummer Terry Williams, he absolutely kills it. And also of course Mark Knopfler, with his masterful guitar playing. But for me Terry Williams just elevates the performance. So I really do hope you guys check it out. YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!
I concur
They all were on fire!!
You're not wrong about England being the source of a lot of the best blues-inflected rock in the 60s and 70s. Most of my favorite musical acts at the time were from the UK.
My man in the middle enjoying this song the right way, hes feeling it. Yyyeeesss
One of my all time favorite rock songs. Funky, blusy, just a feel good jam. And damn....this version ended before the second (best) solo was over.
Yes, whoever put that video together faded out the best part of it! You guys should listen to the studio version, or another live version because the ending guitar work is incredible!
@@user-jg5hx2us9vNo one faded it out,that's the single - 7 inch - version.
Same I listen to it at least once a week ❤❤❤love these musicians 🎉🎉
@@user-jg5hx2us9vfacts👍👍😊
@@normandavidtidiman9918No it isn't the single version. Everything that has been played on radio and released as a single always included the second guitar solo.
Life is. Learning. I first heard this song in 1980. During my assignment in the military overseas and at the time no idea Who performed the song
I know you don't want to repeat, but ALCHEMY LIVE version!! You'll be sooo happy you did.
So much great music from the Knopfler brother .... Check out their song "Industrial Disease" one good song, that did not get much Radio airplay love
Mark Knopfler, schooling people to this day on hand picking a guitar
Last I heard, Mark Knopfler Is solo, writing singing, and playing today.
80s were crammed with epic British rock and pop bands. Go and research them! It's spectacular.
Brings back the best of the MTV days, when it was good.
Dire straits are the best!!..Mark Knopfler for me the best guitarist in the world..still listen to them..❤❤
Walk of live. The live performance of this song is formidable too!
Mark Knopfler narrates. His guitar sings for him
That light touch Knopfler has is so frikkin hard to do it's truly MADDENING!
Mark Knopfler is considered one of the best guitarists. He’s very jazz influenced and he makes me think of Django Reinhardt ! ( legendary jazz guitarist)
Money For Nothing was their #1 hit. The official video itself was groundbreaking! Check it out guys- it slaps!!!!!❤😊
Jazz are you deaf?
He is such a great guitar player for a person who can't read music. All this is natural, he hears it and feels it then plays it.
This was my music 🎵🎵. Love Dire Straights. Midnight Special has all these cool bands from the 70s.
You should check out "Walk of Life". Once you hear the opening, you'll realize you've known of Dire Straits without knowing Dire Straits if you ever watched a baseball game.
Guys, seriously, like many others have already said, if you watch and react to the band's live version as part of their 'Alchemy' tour (the still photo which appears in the bottom right hand corner of this very video...) I absolutely guarantee you'll all be blown away by Mark's amazing guitar skills, and the bands fantastic musicianship, all of them. 🙋♂🙋♂🙋♂
This video was cut in the middle, just when guitar solo was about to start. Hard to understand why someone would do that, considering that Mark Knopfler is top 5 guitarists of all time.
"Brothers in Arms" is what you need to hear. Unforgettable song.
Seriously lads , you need the Alchemy live version. It is simply mesmerizing
His journalist background show off in his lyrics, very well written.
As others have said, the Alchemy Live version is as good as it gets. Just amazing.
This was for a tv audience. Gotta hear them in concert. They jam in every song. Knopfler is top shelf.
This is a song everyone seems to like
AH! You didn't get the long version. That second solo he goes into is epic.
These guys were so good they didn't even need cables. Good ol 80s, lol
This band has a lot of cool tunes
Walk of life, So far away,Romeo and Juliet
And those are just a few
This song has one of the greatest guitar parts, start to finish, of all time!
Deptford, South London. back then a pretty grim place. In those days pubs would have live music, a wide spectrum of style and level of competence.
A masterpiece! Am a fan since the begining.
I grew up in the 70s and 80s can't believe anyone alive never heard of dire straits but to each his own and now we can enjoy all cultures music and it seems to be the one thing that unites everyone.
"Brothers in arms " and romeo and Juliet are my favorites but love all their music
Live shows are where this band is at fellas.
Check out anything from the Alchemy tour and you have a seat on the Knopfler express.
Thank me later.
Watch " Tunnel of Love" live at Wembley 1985 - you will understand why Mark Knopfler is regarded as a Genius.
There are times I like to listen to this version (without the guitar solo at the end being cut off; the original song is much longer than what's shown in the video) and there are times I like to listen to the Alchemy version of this song. It's the same song, but the vibes are different. You guys should check out the Alchemy Live version and compare the differences. Another song by Dire Straits I highly recommend is Tunnel of Love, the live version from Wembley, but the live version from Alchemy is also good. In this song, the vibes are different as well from the studio version and the live version.
MK is a maestro, my personal favorite. You should hear him with Chet Atkins, another master, on "Neck and Neck." An album they did together.
Poor Boy Blues
Unique playing style that many of his contemporaries say is impossible to duplicate.
You guys need to go through every song on the Brothers In Arms album!
You can “just listen to” anything on that album!
Is ANYONE gonna mention Mark's THUMBS tho? 😆🤣 This song is ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES. Great reactions guys. 👏👏👏
Yes...the guitar work in this song is smooth 🔥....this unfortunately is te short version of this song. Listen to the full version, cause you missed the guitar solo guys. LOL
One of my favorite bands. Aways make me smile 😊
My all-time favorite song! 🥰
Couldn't wait for you guys to get to this one! Love the channel/reactions!!
He has to be in the top twenty of all time
Brothers in Arms is a beautiful listen
I look forward to seeing you look at brothers in arms.
This version cuts out one of the most epic guitar rifts in the history of rock. You gentlemen did a great reaction.
Brothers in Arm gets me so emotional and is definately one with incredible lyrics. It's beautiful, touching with a powerful meaning.
Yes Money For Nothing should be on ur list and I think you'd also enjoy the Walk Of Life song and video. TY for this reaction y'all
Mark Knopfler is like Mick Jagger. Neither of them can really SING, but their voices somehow just WORK. As much as I love great singers, I wouldn't change these guys for anything. 😊✌️
Loved the reaction - Mark Knopfler is one of those rare electric guitarists who fingerpicks. And if you wanna try another tune, "Telegraph Road" is a great Dire Straits song.
(The pub in Sultans of Swing is in the area I live in London. There's still a good pub live music scene round here. I'm blessed that my "local" has live music 4 or 5 nights a week).
Great reaction. I wish people didn’t react to this video, because you’re missing a whole verse, and the best solo. An important verse, and solo, in my opinion.
This song is a great call out to all those pub bands that toil away for years and years.
This came out I believe in 78 or 79 and I didn't realize the lead singer was the main guitar player but it went off when it was about to be even better
The 11 min live version of this is mind-blowing esp the guitar picking.
Swing. Dixie, jazz, rock, Honky tonk, Creole , creole.. Sultans of swing do anything... They know all the chords
They have so many great songs.
Mark (Guitar and Vocals) played on a couple of Bob Dylan albums and was the only other performer on Dylan's legendary 'Blind Willie McTell'.
I can't believe there even is a version without the awesome solo at the end.
This was Dire Straits' biggest hit off their first self titled album in 1976. That entire album is, as I've heard you call it, 'Fire'! There is one cut off that album that doesn't seem to get much play or love, and IMHO, is deserving of being called amazing. It's my personal favorite as it reminds me every time of a road trip I took with my best friend in 1978 (RIP). That song being 'Wild West End'. The fascinating bit of it is Mark Knopfler's mastery of finger-style guitar on his Fender Stratocaster (electric, which is unusual, but gives incredible nuance to his dynamics)... All done without a solo in this song, but has unique riff after unique riff that backs the song perfectly while grabbing one by the ear. The lyrics speak to anyone who's had a chance tohang with their best friend with in their own hometown or 'hood'. Enjoy! 😄 czcams.com/video/T4Ad_J_2l0w/video.html
No pick! Mark Knopfler 🙌🏼🎸
A strait is a channel connecting two larger bodies of water, like the Strait of Gibraltar between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. "In dire straits" is another way of saying "in dangerous waters", and has come to mean, "in a difficult situation".
