Crawling past mile one, Love it.
1,900 miles later, I’m still crawling. Lol!
My stomping grounds! Mt. Laguna in my favorite place to hike in San Diego County!
Good for you Esther. 😁👍❤️
Great start Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series! Especially the area between I8 and Big Bear that I have hiked around often.
Thanks Micheal. I loved that section. 😁
Love Your Style. Moving at your chosen seed.
Thanks Albert. Don’t forget …hike your own hike.😁
@@TheHikingRev Cool.
Love your style of videos. I am 66 and hold hope of someday hiking the PCT, God willing. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Thank you Mike. Take the plunge before time runs out. 🏃🏼♂️
Hi Rev! Just thought I'd start watching your PCT Adventure after starting to watch your recent video's! Great advice on when to commit to the trail. Loved the Mile 1 crawl !!! Thank you for doing these video's and inspiring this 62 year old to get out there and adventure. I love being outside, I seem to be less distracted in the woods, talking and Listening to God! Still working and can't do a thru hike, (yet) but there are plenty of great trails in Michigan and near by States to hit! Thank you for your video's and I'm able to go along watching them! See you down the trail!
Thanks Stephen. I recorded my thruhike so other people could come along with me. I hope you enjoy watching them.
@@TheHikingRev Enjoying them very much! Thank you!
I'm retiring and hiking the Appalachian trail in 2029! I'll be 62. Just found your channel through Marmalade and enjoying watching your journey!
Thank you so much. I can’t believe I did it! I have to rewatch them to prove to myself that I actually hiked the PCT. 😂
I was in the same time frame as you. I remember that area well the smell was amazing.
👍
"...are we there yet?..." lol
I didn’t realize how far 2,649 miles was at the time. LOL.
Hi Rev, I’ve been watching hiking posts for the past 4 years now and done a couple of hikes myself. At 60 years old, I’m going to watch your videos to glean as much as I can. I’ve been teaching middle school for 36 years but can’t retire because lack of health insurance. Maybe I can do the PCT during summer break. 🤔
I met a lot of teachers on the PCT who hiked during the summer break trying to finish the PCT. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
I retired from the Navy in 1992, and had been through a few jobs by 2008. I was in between jobs, had a computer, internet access, plenty of time and about $1,200 per month after deductions. I needed to keep my brain occupied to keep up morale. I started to study the John Muir Trail. I used Google Maps as I read each page of the trail guide and I plotted a southbound adventure with resupply points and possible off trail access to civilization or a campsite with a bear box, where I might place supplies during a pre-hike road trip. This research project lasted 3 months. So, when I fully retired at age 55, I had the desire, but lacked needed physical ability, the trail was but a dream. It was in 2017, a high school alumni began her journey on the PCT that I focused my time on creating 3 Google maps from watching hiker videos. I am using my Google maps as personal research tools to prepare for my future attempt. Unfortunately, Only I have full-function on my maps, so I recommend other students of the sport create their own maps. If I ever do make the trek, then I will focus my years of knowledge and experiences on the task. I wish you the best on your journey.

SandCrabNews Thank you so much for the needed information.
I going to relive my 316 mile journey of 2019 while watching along. I had to leave the trail due to the worst case of “shingles” that the doctor had ever seen. After healing up I was able to hike another 75 miles at different points along the way to Canada. Thanks for taking me along again!
Larry...you are one of my hero’s! I’m honored that you would follow my PCT Hike.
@@TheHikingRev thanks! I’ve also followed Mike “Marmalade” Lawrence on every one of his videos. I met him at the PCT days last year.
Beautiful scenery. Enjoyed watching this part of your journey. Praying for God’s protection, and continued strength! Enjoy every step! Breakfast in bed... LOL!!!
Rhonda Brumitt Thanks Rhonda for the tremendous encouragement. And please please continue to pray for protection.
I think I know the man you are referring to that started the PCT and ended his hike because he missed his family. He has a CZcams channel and he got back to me about what he has been up to. He said for the last three years he has been building up his business and home schooling his kids. He just sold his business and made enough to retire. He is in his early thirties. He plans to hike the PCT in 2023 with his now eleven year old son. I am retired and my issue is not fitness but telling my wife I will be gone for about four months. I feel like I have to do it but I am going to take crap for this one. Great video and thanks for sharing.
Yes. He’s got a great channel. Hated to see him get off trail but glad he’s getting back on this year.
You’ve got to have your family’s support. Have your wife go with you. 😁❤️
@@TheHikingRev My wife like to hike but hates to camp. She also does not understand long distance hiking. She thinks hiking day after day is boring. Take care
I really appreciate your measured monologue and M.O. A dear friend of mine is clergy, and he's just like that. I've been watching through hiker's vblogs for three years now I guess, and the more I watch, the more I see of zipper failures even on those very expensive ultra-light tents. Quality control is attenuating I guess. Enjoying your vlogs! Thank you.
That is very kind of you. I try not to talk too much. It’s hard not to being a preacher and all. But the beauty of the Trail is what I want to showcase not my ability to drone on and on. I think some CZcams vloggers love to hear themselves talk.
I sent my tent to Zpacks to get repaired or replaced. I’ll let you know the results.

HaHa! Good thing border patrol didn't see you crawling or they might have taken a closer look.
Starting to catch up on your PCT hike from two years ago. Better late than never.😀🦋❤
Thanks Sue. I’m just two years younger in the videos than I am now. 😂
Just found your channel. Thank you for the inspiration. Your pack looks really light. Have you shared a gear list anywhere?
Yes. Look in the description of this or any of my PCT CZcams videos and you’ll find a gear list of all the sections of the PCT. Also, I’ll be doing a gear review video soon.
Saw you on Ken and Thia's channel! Excited to watch your journey! I expect you to crawl when you get to Canada too haha
Miya Hosaka If I have to I will crawl.
@@TheHikingRev Haha well hopefully you won't HAVE to, and it will just be for silliness. :)
What date would you try to start thr PCT if a dry, normal, or wet year if you had to do it again?
Probably between April 1 and April 15.
Great video. Looking forward to seeing the rest of them! I was supposed to start my PCT hike on 3/20/20 but cancelled last minute because of Covid-19. We are now planning to start 4/15/21. Interesting that you started 4/15. Looking back do you think that was a good start date or would you have changed it?
I think it’s a great start date. Halfway Anywhere showed that it was the most popular start date. You also need to be aware of how much snow there is in the Sierra. Either speed up or slow down.
@@TheHikingRev great, thank you! I really appreciate it. I finished the AT and now I’m ready for the PCT.
@@meriwethersayan People that I hiked with on the PCT that had done the AT also said that the AT was a lot harder than the PCT. So you’ll do great.
@@TheHikingRev I am looking forward to that!
morning Rev, hope you're on the mend! What time of year did you start the PCT and , if you dont mind, what was your age at the time? Im an older hiker.
Hey! I’m doing good recovering from my surgery/procedure. I started the PCT on April 15 and finished on September 28. I was 66 when I started. 67 when I finished.
YOu changed hats when you did this. You started with the nice wide brimmed hat and went to baseball style.
Believe it or not…I left it at my first campsite. I didn’t want to go back for it so I just wore an extra hat I brought. 🤷🏼♂️
@@TheHikingRev ha ha! Cant sat Ive never done something similar!!
Thank you Thank you ...... you shoot a pan for the video do that people can see the shot, that’s kind of rare. So it’s now Oct, 2020. Is your wife going to get upset if you do the AT 2021 ? My guess is that trail is more physically demanding because there is more combined vertical and they didn’t know about switch backs when they built it I guess.
Thanks Randy. I feel panning makes the shot more interesting. IMHO.
As far as the AT is concerned, I’ll leave that to the younger hikers. I’m surprised the PCT didn’t kill me.
Sultán Sea? I think it is Salton Sea.
You’re right. My mistake.😁
9:20- "Ordinance" should be "Ordnance".
A sad commentary on the state of American education and the quality of Government employees.
Good catch Rob.
