The Eurovision Song Contest 1974 was the 19th edition of the annual Eurovision Song Contest.
It was held in the seaside resort of Brighton on the south coast of the United Kingdom.
The BBC agreed to stage the event after Luxembourg, having won in both 1972 and 1973, declined on the grounds of expense to host the contest for a second consecutive year.
The winner of the Contest was Sweden with the song "Waterloo" performed by the band ABBA, that went on to become one of the most popular recording acts of all time.
ABBA are among the Eurovision winners to achieve international superstar status. Sweden's win was their first.
Katie Boyle returned to host her fourth Eurovision Song Contest (after hosting the contest in 1960, 1963 and 1968). Sandie Shaw, who won the contest in 1967 with "Puppet on a String", was present as a spectator in the audience.

"SÌ" was the most beautiful song of ES 1974. Gigliola Cinquetti made a unique interpretation of it, wich has become iconic. Beauty, infinite elegance and style, immense talent. "SÌ" also entered the charts around the world, including England and Ireland.

Eurovision 1974 was a great year with many good songs. I think more than half of the entries were very good.

Eurovision Song Contest why don't you upload in your CZcams channel all the ESC-performances of all the ESC-songs ever, in your usual good audio-video quality? It could be a nice idea to celebrate the 60th anniversary! ;)

@SG6510 lol, 5 years ago I wrote "in your usual good audio-video quality", when actually many performances uploaded in the ESC official CZcams channel have bad quality, especially audio-wise

first, Italie must have won, and second Waterloo was not the best eurovision song(in spite of they voted for it); that was Volare from Domenico Modugno, even nr 1 in Amerika.

      I don't agree with you
"Sí" (Italy) was a great song
and Gigliola Cinquetti did a great perfom
      it could be win...
but in 1974 was ABBA with the disruptive masterpiece "Waterloo"
and no doubt that is The Best Song in all Eurovisión history
