The Eurovision Song Contest 1980 was the 25th Eurovision Song Contest and was held on 19 April 1980 in The Hague.
The presenter was Marlous Fluitsma, although each song was introduced by a presenter from the participating nation. In some cases, this was the same person providing the commentary.
Israel, winners in 1979, declined to host the show for the second time in a row,
The Netherlands agreed to host the show in a small-scale production. The Congresgebouw - was chosen.
For the first time since 1977 and 1978, there were no filmed postcards between the songs, with a guest presenter from each nation introducing the entries.
Morocco joined the Eurovision family for the first (and so far only) time.
Monaco withdrew, and would not return until the 2004 semi final.
Australian-born Johnny Logan representing Ireland was the winner of this Eurovision with the song, "What's Another Year". This was Ireland's second time winning the competition, having won in 1970 with "All Kinds of Everything", which was also held on Dutch soil.
Germany were runners-up this year. They would finish in second place again the following year, finally winning it in 1982. Germany would go on to finish second again in 1985 and 1987, making the 1980s their most successful decade. United Kingdom returned to form by coming third. - Zábava
What about the fact that it was the first and only year an African country took part?
TuxxedoCat I was just going to write that. How ignorant!
John Stromboly Morocco.
Same question dude!
Eurovision "nerd".
They didn't even mention Morocco
Justice for Morocco
So proud 😃🍀🍀🍀 Johnny was the man💞 One of the reasons why I love Eurovision was because of him 👊
Thanks Eurovision for Solidarność
"Hold Me Now" is sooo much better than "What's Another Year"
0:30 Thank you,Eurovision SC ;) greetings form Poland :)
Mariologic 0:14 jest Kozakiewicz :)
aicrod3811 może chociaż w ten sposób zaistniejemy na Eurowizji bo muzycznie jeszcze długo długo nic ;p
The first and last time Morocco participated. Also being the longest absence from Eurovision in history (37 years absence)
Katja Ebstein really deserved winning, at least once.
***** Well, the song you mean is more about the theatre and what it does with the people. Still, I prefer ''Wunder gibt es immer wieder'' by her.
***** Her song isn't about clowns, it's about theatre.
Where's Morocco?
Good answer
Omg I need 1999, 2002 and 2008 throwbacks. The TRINITY of years for the Eurovision.
A 3:13 minute video about Eurovision 1980, yet 38 seconds of it was about non-Eurovision matters and 55 seconds of it was about Johnny Logan at the 1987 contest? That leaves us with a mere 52% of the video actually about Eurovision 1980. Disappointing.
You need to get out for a walk methinks
You published this exactly 35 years after Tito's death (4th May, 1980) and you haven't even mentioned that as an important event.
Tito is a dick why would you mention him
Ifuckyourtwin It was still significant though. Arguably, it was his death that caused the horrific events just over 10 years later in Yugoslavia.
@@JeSuisRene Exactly. Tito was arguably holding Yugoslavia together, and during his rule the people lived more prosperous with higher wages and traveled much more than they do today. So claim our parents and grandparents. :)
Waiting for the 1986 milestone
Wow, as a Polish, I'm surprised by your great pronounciation of "Solidarność" and "Wałęsa". It's not easy for non slavic countries to pronounce it smoothly.
Do more of this ones!
Come On Ireland!!!!!!
1994!! the best!
Xx Felltinek88 xX Edyta Górniak from Poland should have won that year! -.-
0:30 thank you from Poland
I Hope Loreen will come back and chance the history ;)
EasyPvP ~ Quit :c YESSSSSS! please YES :)
And changed history she did! 😉
@@Jernstrooom No way, forgot about this comment. My wishes since I was 14 years old came true
Mister Eurovision, and he from Astralia; strange. By the way, Katja Ebstein deserver more to win
Australian-born ... to at least one Irish parent, and Seán Patrick Michael Sherrard (Johnny, that is) was 3 when he and his family moved (back) to Ireland. :)
The eurovision ignores Portugal. ....other time
Morocco?
Eurovision song contest back in time = United States
Johnny Logan has got a grown-up daughter whom he doesn't accept in Turkey. Maybe noone knows about that. Her name is Robin and she looks just like her father.
