    Hi, Jake! Safety First! For everybody: from the begining do not forget to check Freon type. Sime times we do simple mistake, and later on we do double job! Best regards and good luck!

    Finding leaks can be painful to find when your on board ship. A lot of times I’ve found that the nut at the base of the high pressure valve or the low pressure valve is loose and leaking refrigerant. It’s important to check that nut anytime you’ve opened the valve.

    Hi leckyjake, I always admired marine refrigeration. If I was contracted to do some work on a ship I would go just to try it out for once. I've worked on a couple of the transicold 69NT40 models and always wondered about the sight glass. There are two sight glasses on the receiver. A proper charge is around 5kg I think but the ball always remains pretty low on the visor. I see yours here went up pretty high. I assume the ball on the top visor should not float unless you are pumping down

    Why was the leakage not fixed instead of recharging new Freon gas?

      If he could use a pump to pull a vacuum there’s no leak. Air could have gotten into the system from someone not clearing gauges.

  • @wickedxe
    @wickedxe Před 2 lety +3

    My guess would be a dirty condenser or a failed condenser fan

    • @rightconditions2010
      @rightconditions2010 Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, that was what I was thinking. It is very uncommon to have "air" or noncondensables in the system even when the sysntoms are similar. The refrigeration troubleshooting was not that good. I had never seen low side pressures and high side pressures unless it is a restriction. (Constructive critc here)

    • @derrickenbuenosaires
      @derrickenbuenosaires Před 2 lety

      @@rightconditions2010 the containers run at a really low pressure using 134A. Depending on your temp conditions they can range from 5 to down below 0 psi which would be vacuum.
      (more prone to air infiltration) His high side was definitely high for 134A. That's like a 65+ C / 150+ F coil. Discharge temps directly from the compressor would be way higher.
      Usually a high discharge would reflect back onto the suction slightly but he was in range on the suction pressure. My first thought would be to look at the coil too but we didn't get to see it. The fan is easy to test since it cycles on and off due to pressure control

    Any idea where the refrigerant from the system went? Was there a leak you found and fixed?

    • @Gin-toki
      @Gin-toki Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, a leak seems highly possible, which means the problem will just return after some time.
      Could perhaps also be that it got air trapped during its previous maintenance.

    • @mlenstra
      @mlenstra Před 2 lety +1

      @@Gin-toki at least here in the Netherlands (I think all EU countries) I’ve come to understand it’s actually illegal to refill a suspected leaking system with fluorinated refrigerant as it’s extremely bad for the environment to get these gases into the atmosphere. Not sure what type of refrigerant this reefer is using though, might be plain CO2 these days for all we know.

    • @Gin-toki
      @Gin-toki Před 2 lety

      @@mlenstra it was stated in the video that it's freon.

    • @nunez23j1
      @nunez23j1 Před 2 lety

      It was R134a a refrigerant not a Freon, if you go by bottle color (orange) it’s R404 a refrigerant not a Freon.
